Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

In spring training of season 1 with the Padres and I need an ace.

I have Meijr and Erlin which are pretty good prospects in the game to lure a solid pitcher with.

I always create myself at 3B – bcos that's where i played growing up ... so that means Villaneuava is expendable (and worth a bit in a trade).

    Some of my options are:

I can throw in SS galvis or LF Myers and get Stras from the Nats, but i'm reluctant to part with those players esp Myers who i normally rake with.

I can add Villanuava & get Syndergaard straight up, but he only has one year on his contract ... if i can't resign him (and he could be worth a fortune after one season) it's a heavy price for a 1 year rental.

Then i move into the next tier of pitchers like:

    T. Bauer
    Gio
    Folty
    Tyler Skaggs
    Manaea
    Cleavinger
    Keuchel
    Snell

I'm really keen on Skaggs ... but not sure about adding another lefty to the mix?

Or i can spend much less and try and resurrect someone like King felix from seattle (love his action and i burned thru batters with him in last season's show.)

Has anyone used any of the above pitchers and been surprised or disappointed with them in the game?

I sim innings 2-5, it helps speed things up and still give me a chance to make all of the managerial moves unless my pitcher gets shelled and pulled by the cpu while I'm simming

I usually play the first 3 (or until i get one time through the lineup on offense and defense)...then I'll sim until the 7th inning (of a close game or will sim throughout if it's a blowout).

I usually try and play 1 game fully vs every team home and away.

          N.L. East champs!

Mets are 6-0 since de Grom went on the DL.

This is the first time I've made the postseason in MLB The Show. Drinks on me, lol!

            ˆˆlol!

Spring training is over and I settled on my lineup with a few trades. Lineup is

            Batting Order

            1. Berroa 3B (me an 83 rated 3B; geared towards running, stolen bases, fielding and a contact hitter)
            2. Jankowski RF
            3. Happ CF - acquired from Cubs for Margot
            4. Hosmer 1B
            5. Myers LF
            6. Spangenburg 2B
            7. Vasquez C - acquired from Sox for Hedges
            8. Galvis SS
            9. P

            Rotation

King Felix - acquired from Seattle for Erlin
            Richard
            Ross
            Luchessi
Perdomo - a surprise from spring training with a 1.28 ERA in 27IP and 8 appearances

            Bullpen

            LR -
            Lyle

            MRP -
            Paton
            Strahm
Trevino - acquired from Oakland in a minors RP swap.

            SU
Pazros - acquired from Seattle in the Erlin trade
            Stammen

            C
            Yates

The only question i have going into the season is Yates at closer and my bullpen in general.

I have two stud prospects in Mieja and Franmil which could go as trade bait to bring in a closer and some relieving help. Possibly even another starter if Perdomo and/ or Luchessi flub.

              Season Opener

              Padres 7 def Brewers 1.

Player of the game was the King, but Hosmer nearly pipped him.

              King Felix
              7.0 IP 1H 0R 0 ER 6SO

              Hosmer
              3-4 1 HR (2 triples) 5 RBI

              other notables:
              Myers
2-2 2BB 1HR 1SB 2RBI ( i seem to just rake with him. he hit .664 in spring training and last year on the show he finished with .308 34HR 20SB season)

              Braun
              2-4 2B 1RBI 1SB

Can't wait to get deep into the season and see if I can keep up in a tough division and maybe even jag a wildcard slot

Injuries continue to plague this team as now Juan Fabregas is on the 10 Day DL with a pulled hamstring. We called up Oscar Mercado to take his place.

Once again our hitting is subpar as we as a team are only hitting .219 which surprisingly isn't last in the majors. Our pitching is dominant and has been carrying us early on, but when its off then we struggle.

Next up is a 6 game homestand, 3 with the Royals and 3 with the Cubs to close out the month of April.

On a brighter note our AA team, Springfield, is 17-0 this season. That's right, 17-0. Maybe I should switch those 25 guys with the 25 guys in St.Louis

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We got back to our winning ways by taking the first two against the Royals of a 3 game set. We won 7-2 in game one and then won 4-1 in game two. We are now 5-0 vs the our I-70 rivals.

Matt Carpenter returned in Game 2 of the series and proceeded to hit the first pitch he saw after coming off the DL into the right field seats for a solo home run. Both Lance Lynn and Jack Flaherty (who made his first start after a DL stint) were dominant in their starts. Lynn only lasted 6 innings after hitting 89 pitches but his turn came up in the lineup at a pivotal spot. Flaherty went 7 strong before being lifted even with a shut out in tact due to being at 101 pitches.

Next up is the series finale with the Royals with a business man special, 1:15 Thursday afternoon first pitch. We welcome the Cubs for the weekend and to close out the month.

In other news, Springfield made it to 18-0 before suffering their first loss. Springfield is now 18-1 on the young season and up by 7 1/2 games in the Texas League North Division.

Bucco Blasts - Blurbs on FSanchez12's Pirates - Draft Day 2018

                          Pirates High on Cuban-Born 3B

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been linked in multiple mock drafts to Cuban-Born 3B Draft Prospect, Oscar Navarro. Navarro defected to Miami from Cuba at age 5, and has been playing baseball ever since. Scouts rave about his absolute Raw Power at such a young age, stating that if he can get his bat to come around average wise, he could easily fend for himself at the ML level right now. If Navarro would go to the Pirates, there would be a logjam in the system, as he would be competing with Miguel Andujar and Ke'Bryan Hayes for playing time at one point or another. Nonetheless, the Pirates have already struck gold once with Cuban defectors in the draft (see 1st round from 2017), so they are quite confident to head back to that same well in 2018.

Kang Gets Visa - Starts in Indianapolis Tonight

The Pirates may have gotten help from overseas when they needed it most. Shoe-In All Star, Adonis Garcia went down recently with a fractured shin, and almost as if it was planned, INF Jung Ho Kang received a working visa to make his way into the US, and work his way back to the Pirates everyday lineup. While Kang will likely not be featured in Pittsburgh for a few weeks, it does give the Pirates some flexibility to internally replace Adonis Garcia while he nurses his shin. The Pirates had previously been linked to Manny Machado and Nolan Arenado at 3B, and Jonathan Schoop at 2B as external solutions.

We received our first trade offer of the season last night when the Rockies offered SS/2B/OF Chris Taylor for RP Ryan Helsley. We declined this trade as we don't want to give up Helsley nor do we really want Taylor.

Another reason is we may be looking to make a deal with the Mets to send OF Randy Arozarena to them in exchange for 3B/SS/2B Blake Tibieri. Mets need OF depth and are loaded at the 3B/IF position. We are loaded in the OF and could use depth like Tibieri.

While I always worry about trading away the wrong piece of the puzzle, we have to do something to make avenues for guys coming thru the system, or move those guys that are coming thru.
