Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Wrapped up the first series V the Brewers, winning games 1 & 3.

Perdimo started the second game pitching against Chacin and was solid until; with two out he walked Braun and loaded the bases in the 6th (on his 95th pitch). Scores were 0-0 and Perdimo had 10SO, so I thought he could pitch out of trouble,

Next batter up was Moose Tacos who hit a grand slam

    I ended up losing 6-1.

Game 3 (Richard Vs Suter) was set to be another tight game where it'd come down to one play like the last two games, but the brewers jumped all over Richard in the 1st piling on 4 runs and batting around. A solo home run from Santiago in the 5th made the score 5-0 and the route was on.

In the 6th Vasquez hit a solo HR on a 10 pitch at bat, and that there was the turning point.

After going down 1-2-3 in less than 10 pitches, Suter returned and still looked shaky after the Vasquez at bat.

Berroa went down on a first pitch loud out to deep left. Pirela singled to right. Happ homered to left, 5-3. Renfroe was walked on the next AB and that bought Myers up to the plate who blasted a 417ft HR to centre field to tie up the game.

Scores stayed the same until extra innings. Problem was I was down to only one pitcher in my bullpen, Yates the closer who came out and closed the door on the top of the 12th.

Knebel was summoned, and I pretty much thought I was screwed. I've never got a hit off the guy ever, and I didn't want to burn my closer, so entering the 12th with visions of making Renfroe pitch the 13th... i went to work.

Spangenburg was walked. Galvis was hit by a pitch and suddenly there was two on, no outs. Ajuei pinch hit for Yates (making it official, if i don't score here, Renfroe is my pitcher) and hit a rocket to deep right which the RF Santiago? some how reeled in...Spanger tagged up to third. one out.

Berroa my rookie 3B (based on me) was 0.83 & .125 OB for the series and got his first major league hit in his previous AB. Facing Knebel he squared up a 2-2 pitch and blasted it back up between the pitcher's legs for a walk off RBI single.

Such a fun series full of highs & lows and dramatic twists.

I think I need to really start looking at my two stud prospects Meijr & Franmil for some bullpen help ... or another starter to go with King Felix. At 24 years old Perdomo is probably still another season or two away from dominating as our ace, although he does have some wicked stuff and a beautiful action.

We're back at home for a 4-game series Vs the rockies, which will stretch my already tired and not very competent bullpen.

      Question....please help!!

I've played half a season already in franchise mode and have yet to have a major league injury. Minor league players get injuried everyday, but the team I control zilch. This is the most unrealistic season Ive every played.
Is there a way to fix this "injury" problem?

        try increasing the injury slider.

Mets have 14 games to go in the regular season. I'm itching to start the playoffs. The 40-man roster has been nice to use, as I've been experimenting with different lineups and utilizing a 6-man starting rotation to give guys extra rest, and to better set my rotation for the postseason.

The Red Sox brought an end to our 8-game winning streak last night. First time playing in Fenway Park this year and man, that stadium looks really good in the game! Boston's lineup is very dangerous. They have a 3.5-game lead over the Yankees in the A.L. East race. Boston, New York, Cleveland and Houston are all locks for the postseason, with Toronto looking like they'll take the second wild card spot.

St. Louis and Chicago are in a dead heat for the N.L. Central lead, with Milwaukee 6 games back. The Dodgers have been on a roll and coupled with the Rockies free-falling (lost 11 of 12), should clinch the N.L. West their next game. Washington has a firm grip on the top wild card, with the second-place N.L. Central team likely to get the No. 2 wild card.

In injury news, it looks like de Grom has a chance to come back during the NLCS if we make it that far. He'll for sure be ready to go for the World Series. Cespedes, however, doesn't appear to be healing in time to play again this season.

Blue Jays win game 2 of ALDS

The battle between the Rangers and the Blue Jays continued on a warm October afternoon, seeing the dome open up to nature for a rare outside playoff game in Toronto. Adam McMullen pitched for Toronto in his first post-season appearance, pitching 7 innings and giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on only three hits for his first win.

McMullen pitched a heck of a game, coming out missing bats and painting the corners right from pitch 1. His one mistake, a fastball that he lost a bit and snuck into the zone when he was trying to pitch around Texas RF Yasiel Puig, cost him his two earned runs as Puig jumped all over it and smacked it into the RF gap for a two run double. Kelvin Herrera pitched a near perfect 8th with three strikeouts, and Trevor Rosenthal allowed only a single to Alex Shimizu (Prince Fielder) to close out the 9th in the 6 to 3 victory.

The Texas pitching staff put up a valiant effort on the mound against the oppressive Blue Jays lineup, and were extra careful to stay away from Trey Bloom, who had punished them greatly in game 1. However, the Blue Jays had reverted back to their disciplined, grinding playstyle after the free-swinging of game 1, and just wore down their opponents on the mound. One great swing by Hosmer and the consistent greatness of Mike Trout was all the offense the Jays ended up needing.

Texas went into the series looking good. Like all but one of the teams in the post-season, they have a injury to a key player, but have replaced their slugging 2nd baseman with a defensive dynamo. They had shored up their greatest weakness at the trade deadline, turning their anemic bullpen into a force to be respected, and tore through the Astros easily in the wild card series. However, unlike the Astros, the Rangers have struggled against the Jays, both historically and throughout this season, and their struggles continue it seems into this post season.

            In other news...

Washington beats the Pirates handily, sweeping them in three games. Jays fans must be relieved, as the Pirates have built their team specifically to take them down, nabbing every single player who has success against them since the era of TheWarmWind management started.

The Dodgers take a 2-1 series lead over the Padres. In this world of such large team disparity, there are two monster teams that dominate even above the best teams in a class of their own. One is the Blue Jays. The other is the Dodgers. Yet the Dodgers have always struggled in the post-season, despite dominating the regular season with 100 win+ seasons for the past 4 years. Hopefully this will be the year we get to see these two clear titans clash in the World Series.

            Where did the Reds go?

One team notably absent from the post-season picture is last year's pennant winners the Cincinnati Reds. They had an amazing off-season as well, only adding to their already well balanced team. However, in a season that saw most teams get hit hard by injury, few were hit harder than the Reds. On top of that, they were hit with an even scarier monster, regression. Many players that shone last year took a huge step back this year. In fact, the only bright spot on the Reds was free agency acquisition Josh Donaldson, who practically single-handedly carried the team to a .500 record. With a pitching staff almost entirely out with injury and a supporting lineup that just couldn't perform with him, Donaldson's amazing performance just wasn't enough to keep the ship afloat.

A tense series against the Rockies comes to a climax a little later tonight when Perdomo takes the mound.

No one has forgotten the last time Perdomo started against the rockies

ESPN News – Padres Vs Rockies Brawl

The pivotal game in this high scoring series – which is tied at 1 game all – begins a little later this evening.

So far this series Charlie Blackmon is batting .625 with 4Hr and 7 RBI's in the first two games, and I'm guessing if Perdomo plunks anyone old Chuck might be in some bother ... lol

All in seriousness though. Jeez I struggle against this Rockies lineup. from 1 to 8 they can hit and there's no easy outs.

First two games the scores were 8-4 to them and 7-5 to me. I can't seem to shut them down, so I'm just trying to hang with them offensively. Hopefully Perdomo can change that. When he brings his stuff he's a tough draw.

Just hit the 140 game mark in year 4 of my carry over save. It has been a grind, but things are getting interesting now.

Cubbies sit just a single game back to the Cardinal who have the best record in the Majors at 85-55. However, they were at around 55-25 earlier in the season and led the division by 15 games. So they have only played around .500 ball the last couple months.

We pretty firmly have a wild card spot at least with a nine game cushion.

                Player Updates:

1B - Anthony Rizzo is having a monster season. 61 HR 140 RBI's .284 AVG. He hit 61 HRs last season and was in a slump the last 2 weeks until he decided to crush 3 dingers vs the Nats in the last game.

2B - Javier Baez - 11 HR 47 RBI .271 AVG. Way better than the .190 he hit last season. Glove is always amazing.

SS - Starlin Castro - 16 HR 72 RBI .313 AVG (Only trails McCutchen in NL BA at .322 who is a Cardinal)

                3B - Anthony Rendon - 23 HR 76 RBI .284 AVG

C - Herb Fuentes 25 HR 79 RBI .243 AVG 70 BB. He has a ton of speed but is a fielding liability. Rule 5 steal last year, made the all-star game this year.

                LF - Jeff Scruggs - 13 HR 54 RBI .249 AVG

CF - AJ Pollock - 11 HR 59 RBI .265 AVG Early season trade to beef up over struggling Dexter Fowler.

                RF - Jorge Soler - 13 HR 54 RBI .249 AVG

OF - Dexter Fowler - 4 HR 31 RBI .230 AVG. We looked to trade him but no takers. He is great vs lefties and we use him effectively now as a lefty specialist/utility guy.

SP - Chris Tillman - (16-4) 2.51 ERA 183 Ks - Amazing signing in the offseason for 600k. Second place in the Cy Young race.

Rest of the SP's. Arrieta, Lester, Matt Moore, and Juan Durham. Everyone else is in the mid 3's era except Durham who we got at the trade deadline. He has been pretty bad for us with a +4 era.

Bullpen has been mediocre. Derek Coronado is our closer, nearly a 5 era 22 SV and 5BSV. He has looked better over the last month.

These last 22 games should be fun!

Have you kept David Wright injured all year? I keep manually injuring him until I figure out what I want to do, I should be getting him available in late August and am trying to figure out where I can squeeze him in. I'm already rolling with a six man bench

Year 2020. This is the year my Mariners go for it all. Its June 17th and were sitting at 50-25. I want to get Felix his ring. And it just dawned on me that Beltre has yet to retire. I need to get him a ring as well and what better team to do with with than the Mariners and his friend Felix. I trade for Beltre. Was sitting in Texas' AAA affiliate. I start him at 3B despite his 66 overall at age 40. First at bat, first pitch he sees and he smacks a home run. Awesome moment.

Went down in a nailbiter to the Rockies 2-1. Perdomo hung a slider over the plate to Blackmon (after walking DJ) who crushed it for his 5th HR and 9th RBI of the series.

I'm gonna have to start walking him.

Perdomo is for real though ... struggles with his location at times and it's proving costly. two real mistakes in his first two starts and a grand slam and a homerun as a result.

now for the 4th and final game of this series, and the 7th of our homestand.

I have. I've increased it to max level and all tat seems to do is increase injuries to all CPU controlled teams and all Minors teams including mine. But still no Major Lrague injuries for any of my players.

Damian Boeve wins his 15th game in his final start before the All-Star Break, dominating the O's through seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one.

"That was like old school Boeve. He had them flailing, off-balance, all his pitches working, and he stayed true to his mechanics, " catcher Julian Peralta commented.

The Marlins needed all of his good work because the bats were held in check. The team managed just two runs of support for Boeve, giving him a 2-1 lead before he exited.

Julian Peralta hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 7th...a run that would become immensely important.

Miguel Ramirez, the Marlins closer, came on with a 3-1 lead but had nothing on the ball. He fought his was to two outs but loaded the bases in the process.

Winslow, the O's catcher, flared a liner to right to score one run. However, Arturo Gonzales' arm saved the day by cutting down the tying run at the plate for the final out of the game and hold the win with a 3-2 score.

"They saved my *** out there tonight. I thought I had things going right but something I'm doing still isn't working, obviously, " Ramirez commented.

                          Notes:
Greg Rivera extended his hitting streak to 14 games...Bo Winter got a pinch hit single to extend his hitting streak to 6 games...Damian Boeve is the first pitcher to 15 wins in all of baseball...
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

                            OVERVIEW
We are back! I was on vacation for a couple of weeks plus playing more of the games means slower to get through the season. I grinded out quite a few games yesterday to get to this point for a new update.

Our offense is still on fire but our pitching did get knocked around a bit in May. We had a scare toward the end of May when Yoan Moncada had to leave a game after injuring his hand while diving back to first on a pick off attempt. Luckily it was only a bruise and he only missed a couple of days. He is still playing at an MVP level (.417 AVG/15 HR/40 RBI) He ranks first in the AL in average, 3rd in home runs and tied for 5th in RBI.

Rhys Hoskins is leading the AL in homeruns (22) and he is second in RBI (56)

Vladimir Guerro Jr. Is collecting RBI at a nice rate as well as he ranks 4th (44)

Johan Cruz (.294/5 HR/11 RBI) has filled in nicely for the injured Cervelli

Our lone offensive starter who has struggled is Johnny Shinjo who is hitting a decent .257 with 4 HR and 11 RBI he has spent some time on the DL though and his average has improved pretty well since starting under .200.

We traded Avisail Garcia to clear up a crowded outfield and our budget. In return we got Dom Nunez a 75 OVR 27 YO C and a minor league 1B. Nunez has been able to spell Cruz as he had been our only catcher for most of May

Our lead in the division has gotten smaller and smaller after a .500 month of May. We will definitely need to step it up if we want to hold off the menacing Indians.

                            Next update: All Star Break.

I'm not sure then. I have mine at default and I'm currently experiencing a revolving door of injuries with my MLB squad.

Matt Carpenter, Patrick Wisdom, and Jack Flaherty just got off the DL. Juan Fabregas went on about 5 days ago and I just lost Harrison Bader to a fractured leg he suffered sliding into 2nd base to break up a double play.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

We couldn't pull off the sweep of the Royals as we lost 3-2 last night. Mike Moustakas hit a 2 run homerun in the 5th and then they added a run when Harrison Murdock made a poor throw to first with 2 outs in the 7th that allowed a run to score. We got a run on an Oscar Mercado RBI single in the 7th and then Matt Carpenter hit a solo hr in the 8th to get us to 3-2, but we couldn't get over the hump.

Miles Mikolas has fallen to 0-3 on the year, but his ERA is 2.12. Tough luck.

During the game we lost Harrison Bader until the All-Star break with a fractured leg he suffered sliding into 2nd last night to break up a double play. Bader just adds to the list of injuries we are having to get through here in the month of April. Jeremy Hazelbaker will be called up in place of Bader until Fabregas returns from his hamstring injury in about a week.

We did get Patrick Wisdom back off the 10 Day DL after last nights game.

Next up is a 3 game series with the Cubs to close out the month of April
