15 games in and the Marlins are the surprise of the majors.
A sweep of the Cubs to start the year (including two late inning comebacks), set things in the right direction, culminating in a 12-3 start.
The pitching staff has been unbelievable, with top 5 stats across the board, and our back end of Burnett, Zych and Ziegler have surprisingly shut down more than a few attempts at late inning rallies.
On the flip side, the offense has been as tepid as anyone would have assumed. An extremely hot start from AJ Reed (.408/.500/.837), with 5 bombs and 17 RBI, has been been one of the lone bright spots offensively on this team. Brinson (.138/.160/.238) has struggled to start his first full season in the majors, as has Raimel Tapia (.208/.260/.302). The team ranks in the bottom 3 in most major offensive categories. Considering we've only only scored 47 runs in the first 15 games, it seems a miracle that we're even above .500.
The injury bug hit Yunel Escobar, who hits the 10 day DL with a sprained finger. The team called up J.T. Riddle to fill some depth up the middle, and before his first game he also ended up getting injured.
We travel north for a quick two game set against the Yankees next. Rolling with a 2 man bench and a staff that are pitching way over their heads, I have a very, very bad feeling about this...
