Re: Do you or the catcher call the game?

I always call my own game. If I throw what the catcher suggests it's just because I happen to think that's the correct pitch and location in that situation. The only time I solely rely on the catcher is if I get into a rut and can't get anyone out and then I use the catcher's suggestions to get out of my funk.

You guys remember Chuck James who used to pitch for the Braves? That is what he did. He honestly didn't care to learn which hitters were which, he just threw whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. Probably the main reason he didn't stick around long.

Re: Do you or the catcher call the game?

I usually go with the pitch the catcher calls about 90% of the time. Sometimes I will change location, though. Especially since he always wants everything in the strikezone. I like throwing first pitch strikes, obviously, but if I feel like the batter may try to ambush me, I'll throw a pitch outside of the zone and hope to get a swing and miss or weak contact grounder. I also don't like throwing pitches in the zone on 0-2 and 1-2. This usually leads to me having 100 pitches by the 6th inning, but I'm playing my Franchise with the Yanks and thankfully I have a strong bullpen.

However, in big spots late in games, if I'm not 100% confident in the pitch he calls, I'll throw my own pitch.

I pitched a high level in my life. If you think I'm letting an AI controlled catcher tell me what to throw and where to throw it you're out your damn mind!

Re: Do you or the catcher call the game?

I call my own game for three reasons:

              1. If I pitched the way the CPU wanted on my slider settings, I will get clobbered.

              2. I like to play all positions, which is one of the many reasons why I prefer to play franchise. I'm the second baseman. I'm the manager. I'm the GM. Why would I give up playing my favourite position?

              3. Adding to the above reason, I play pitching from the fisheye camera. It's far more immersive to roleplay as the catcher.

Didn't you take catcher suggestions when you were a pitcher? Could you comment more on what's so off about the suggestions the catcher makes for someone who didn't pitch at any level? Obviously, a people have mentioned there are occasionally spot or pitch call issues but I didn't think it was that bad.

Completely agree, ratings for how well a catcher calls a game but also tendencies that should match with a pitcher to create pitcher/catcher partnerships that work better than others.

I would like to use the catcher more but I can't see the fingers he's putting down and he doesn't setup prior to me throwing the pitch.

I would love that to be looking at one day to where I can use the catcher signs, maybe get crossed up...that's a big piece of baseball missing from The Show.

I’ve been throwing what the catcher calls religiously for years (not using the mitt-thing but just fingers + gesture); this thread has reminded me how fun it is to call your own game. I miss it. I’m going back.

I let the catcher call it. Where the glove is at and the specific pitch that is flashing.
