Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
Sir, you are correct that Bullpen logic is not sufficient. I FF to 6/8th Inning of every game to manage the glaring bullpen faults. Game is grand, otherwise. Enjoy.Comment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
I hate how they use a setup man only if they are up by 1 or 2 runs. if it is a 3-3 game they use a crappy middle guy. their logic is terrible and the home team always use their closer in a tied game in the 9th. the CPU is braindead with CPU logic so I manage the CPU BP myself and do it all in games and switch controllersComment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
Maybe I am the only one who feels this way for so long version after version but why does MLB The Show 18 and all earlier versions CPU Bullpen logic make such terrible pitching decisions all the time?
Good example
I was playing an exhibition game between the Houston Astros me vs Detroit Tigers CPU. And Pitcher "Michael Fulmer" CPU in my opinion was pitching very well against me. It was top of the 7th and he had only thrown 44 pitches and given up no runs and 7 hits. So anyway I see the Tigers already have pitchers warming up in the bullpen which I think is crazy. And so my lead off guy gets a little base hit into right field which makes it 45 pitches and 8 hits total for CPU Pitcher Michael Fulmer and sure enough the CPU pulls him for a reliever right after that hit.
Now I admit I am not the most knowledgeable baseball guy in the world but my god don't you think that is just crazy for pulling your number 1 starting pitcher after only throwing 45 freaking pitches and 8 hits with a 2-0 lead?
I mean this is even worse bullpen managing then Phillies new manager Gabe kapler!lol
Why has this been an issue for so long without getting fixed?
ThanksComment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
It’s a design decision by SDS to help keep the game more SIM even when the gamers isn’t doing a great job on their end. I think they are keeping an internal count based on hits/walks/inning to compensate for this.
I for one have a difficult time taking as many pitches and fouling pitches away as I should and working the count. This is why I generally do play with quick counts on. Don’t get me wrong, quick counts has it own set of issues, but I like it better because of the way I play.

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
THE CPU is deffinately doing things differently than I've ever seen before.
In my most recent game, I got the opposing pitcher up to over 100 pitches with one out in the 5th inning. They pulled him after I got a man on base, and the next reliever retired my next two batters, with me leading 4-2.
In the bottom of the inning, they pinch hit for that reliever, and brought in a new pitcher to start the sixth. I then really worked the counts on that pitcher too, and by the 8th inning I had him over 80 pitches, and had widened the lead to 10-4 before they brought in someone else to finish the 8th and 9th.
I can't ever remember seeing the CPU get a reliever up to that many pitches before, but they didn't replace him I guess because he hadn't come up to bat. Its absolutely different than what I'd seen before. However, he had a lot of stamina and only went into the light orange a little before he was pulled. They were certainly determined not to wear out their other pitchers in game one of the series.
However, part of that is also a side effect of me being able to draw walks at a level that I never have been before as well.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
The bullpen AI on my game is awful. I just finished played the first 4 games of my Yankees Franchise....the Blue Jays brought in Tyler Clippard in to relieve the starter in all 4 games. I scored on him in each game. Why keep going to the same guy, especially with poor results in the previous consecutive games?
Shouldn't the AI have at least used a different pitcher based on the fact that Clippard's energy must have been far below full? I had Chapman save games 1 and 2, blew them out in game 3, and even with a day of rest he was still not full strength for Game 4, so I used Robertson. So I can't even imagine what Clippard's energy was going into game 4 after pitching MULTIPLE innings in 3 straight games?Comment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
What happened to the original poster is actually pretty common in the actual MLB anymore. The Complete game is a rarity anymore. In these days, if a starter can pitch into the 7th, the manager is ecstatic. Very rarely do pitchers (other than your Kershaws, Klubers, and other elite pitchers)) pitch into the 8th or 9th inning, much less get a complete game.
Pitch count is only ONE of the many things taken into consideration when taking a starter out.
Yes, 45 pitches is very few, for 6 innings of work. But, in those 45 pitches, the pitcher had given up 8 hits. OBVIOUSLY, he isn't getting many swing and misses. So, that has to be taken into consideration. Also, the score. I believe it was 2-0. So, tying run on, no outs, 7th inning, with a pitcher on the mound who is pitching well, but not missing any bats. Think about it. Sooner or later, those batted balls are gonna start dropping in.
If I'm a manager in that situation, pitch count becomes irrelevant. The game situation dictates my decision much more. Who is up to bat? Is the runner on first a base stealing threat? If it is a left hander at the plate, and the runner on first is a threat to steal, it becomes a no brainer to bring in a left hander, for 2 reasons. Leftt/lefty matchup , AND a lefty can hold the runner at first better. If it is the heart of the lineup coming up, I will probably bring in a pitcher who has the ability to miss the bat more often.
I don't see it as a bad decision, to take out the pitcher in that instance.Comment

Re: CPU Bullpen logic issues remain in 18!
Had something I guess you can say INTERESTING happen to me in my last game. I'm just past the draft period in my franchise with the Phillies and I'm playing a game against the Giants who start a lefty on the mound. So I counter with my all right handed or switch hitting lineup. From the outside I'm getting hits all over the place (forget who the pitcher was for the Giants) and I'm out to a solid lead after the first few innings. Then by the 6th I'm up huge, I think have 9 or 10 runs at this point so they finally pull the starting pitcher. But they put in a lefty reliever and I'm still able to take! 2 more lefties would come into the game before the 9th inning when they finally threw in a right. I won 13 to 3 but that ninth inning they stuck me out three straight times. If they would have countered with a right sooner I believe they still could have had a shot but I was so surprised that they didn't turn to a right sooner given how well I was doing against the lefties. I needed that win too man as I was struggling big time as of late.
