    MLB 17 or 18? Help!

    Hey all,

Longtime gamer and OS member. Sports games are my primary passion (Madden, NBA Live/NBA 2K, WWE and FIFA) and I'm conflicted.

I play on PS4 and have not played The Show at all. Wanting to get the Show but am debating to go cheap and get 17 or go all in with 18.

The Show is probably not going to be a yearly buy for me because I'm just a casual MLB fan.

I just want to be able to have fun with the game and enjoy it to the fullest.

Any thoughts and pros and cons would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

If money isnt an issue, then 18. I assume you won't be playing franchise? If that is something you want, then you might rather want 17 because it has an easier to manage seasons mode along with the full-blown franchise. Heck, you might even be fine with picking up 14 for a few weeks if rosters isnt your thing. You can get it for under $10. But you wont be able to play online with that though, if that's your main interest.

In all honesty these games are notoriously “samey” from year to year. Even when compared with other annual sports titles, its forward trajectory is just super slow. Most guys don’t really mind because the game is so solid anyway, a roster update, a handful of presentation updates, and some lighting engine tweaks is enough to keep lots of people happy, myself included.

Anyway I mention that bc, like Caulfield said, you could go all the way back to 14 or 15 and get 90% the same experience. I would go ‘18 because it’s the best version yet imo, but you wouldn’t really be missing much if you went ‘17 or even ‘16.

      Happy gaming.

I would personally say to go with '18 because it is the best playing version on the field to date. The improved ball physics/hitting is simply a thing of beauty. The slightly more difficult pitching is a welcomed addition and better balance between elite, good, and average defenders is a good change of pace.

While '17 is a great game, there are a few hiccups that kept me from playing it, most notably being the wild pitch/balls in the dirt issue. Anytime a runner was on base, and the pitcher bounced one in the dirt that the catcher didn't catch in his glove, no matter where it landed, would result in the runner taking an extra base. I won't say this happened every time, but 9 out of 10 on the low end, at least in my limited experience.

If you don't want to spend the $60 for '18, I would recommend going with '16, as that is what I played last year due to my issues with '17.

Any other questions let us know.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

18 is a far better game although I get worried every time I see a new patch. This is in manage mode - franchise. Other modes I don't play and therefore have no opinion.

18 is the game I would recommend picking up. If you're not in a rush to get it, maybe wait until a sale pops up?

If you're not doing a yearly buy I'd go with MLB 18, because of the ball physics changes and a lower amount of focus on in-game transactions in RTTS.

If you are interested in year-to-year saves you will have to do a yearly purchase because if you don't you can't transfer a save from say 16 into 18

I'd list the reasons but I don't feel like typing until I'm 70 lol. And This coming from one that loved 17.

Go with 18......Gameplay is king. Improved camera angles. Outstanding ballparks. Sliders are very underrated, you can fine tune to your specific skillset. (for me, game out of box is good)

I use Armor and Sword slider set. For the most part, I let the catcher call the game per his slider notes. Also check out the OSFM and Classic roster sets along with individual player uploads by ShowTyme.

Every gamer will have different views, along with options and features they would like implemented. One thing I learned, if you nitpick at everything your enjoyment level will decrease. Pop a cold one and enjoy The Show.
