But I suspect that the original engine was built on a system where space was a premium for roster and franchise files, and given that that engine has been virtually the same for many years now, the cracks are really showing on many things, not just this.
Just to back up this statement, here's the Red Sox minor league roster sizes

    MLB - 25
    AAA - 25
    AA - 25
    A+ - 25
    Low A - 25
    Short A - 35
    GCL - 35
    DSL 1 - 35
    DSL 2 - 35

This doesn't account for AFL, or instructional leagues, since often, the same players participate in those.

But the "roster" size limit for the Red Sox organization is 265 players, a paltry amount compared to the 90 we get.

I'm sure there are reasons for it beyond what I understand, but it's frustrating to me that MVP Baseball 2005 had a fully playable High A level, whereas 13 years later we're stuck with a 15 man roster that doesn't play games.

And I understand not loading in 265, but we don't even have a full squad for a single level of A ball, when there are 3. As a result, guys are way too high out of the draft and because there are only two levels for them to wash out at, they develop into major leaguers way too surely. Having these levels would not only give us more roster flexibility and development but also result in a more accurate and diverse overlaying of guys' career arcs.

You can have more than 5 per level. I don’t think you will ever have more than 15 injured players at one given time

The thing I find frustrating with Franchise mode is the inability to have up to date rosters. In the spirit of basics you should be able to change a roster from the vault during a franchise mode season.

No game out there has this sort of feature, only madden comes close by allowing you to start a new franchise at any point during the season...but it doesn’t dynamically do this.

Interesting. I do 30-team control, but only as a safeguard against egregious trades/signings/funky decisions to not call homies up. other than that i just operate my team. like im a few years in and ive only had to go back and veto a few things, like harper to the royals, a posey for kershaw straight up swap, altuve signing for like 5 yr /40 mill with the big spendin rays

Doesn't this year's RBI Baseball allow this? I haven't played it and I'm not trying to compare the games, but there is now a precedent for this feature I think.

It does, but with it not having financials in the game, I think it is "less challenging" to do so, as they don't have to account for updating payrolls and such in an already existing franchise.

And by "less challenging" I don't mean to say that its easy for RBI and impossible for SDS to do, just that its one less hurdle that RBI has to overcome to make it possible.

No doubt. I am liking that a precedent has been set, though. Being able to update your rosters while keeping the same 'chise would be a total game changer. It would cure a lot of 'restart syndrome' that people have.

I understand the attraction. So what then happens with any transactions made within your franchise? They just get erased by an updated roster.

Agreed. Anything that gives people more options to play is always a welcomed addition.

If I had to guess, and this is purely my opinion, I would think there would have to be a few parameters set in place for this to happen. I'm thinking one is that obviously it couldn't be a carryover franchise. Another would be that you may have to turn financials off so that it doesn't cause an issue with an update. And lastly, I would think that you would have to play with no trades/roster moves.

Again this is just my thoughts and have not heard anything in regards to this being implemented and that if it is to be implemented at some point that the parameters that I've stated would have to be met.

This really frustrates me. Why not just let us choose how many days from 1 to 350? Why the restrictions?

Yeah, this feature is almost like when carryover saves were announced by The Show.

Hopefully, MLB19 will answer this with their own version of this feature.

I might have to start watching the RBI game more, too, if they keep coming up with stuff like that.
