    Diving Plays?

I was hoping people would post video clips of:

    1)successful diving stops (not RTTS)

2)unsuccessful diving stops (ball going under you or out of your reach

3)plays in which instead of diving you just ran at a steeper angle (since it actually covers more ground if you dont dive)

4)excluding homerun robbing leaps, any jumping catches in the infield (RTTS welcome)

I really hope i get feedback on this. My goal is to either:

    1. See if there is something im missing and not seeing as far as timing on particular plays.

    Or

    2. Confirm my suspicion that diving, while there have been times i had to dive and it was rewarding, rarely is ever needed because there is something wrong with the speed of the dive being slower than running (mainly talking infield diving and jumping).

For me fielding is my favorite part of the game but for all of Show’s glory, the fielding mechanic/engine/whatever is so out of whack. I tried to find fielding clips from Bases Loaded 2 on NES to show how far back i go with loving enjoyable fielding but was unsuccessful. Now diving and jumping in that game still to this day was far better than The Show

When i see as big of a % of people that just let the CPU auto-field for them, it lets me know something needs to be done because afterall this is a video game. There should not be major components of baseball that people arent getting enjoyment out of. To me it is worse than hitting being messed up.

Or, maybe im dead wrong on this, so im really hoping for some clips.

    Re: Diving Plays?

I've had some success diving mainly at short but have done it with second base and outfielders. I've had the outfielders go into a slide animation and make a sliding catch and it's pretty cool. I've had Andrus do that at short also going onto the outfield grass.

I've had a few that I've missed but that's just because I was stubborn and took a poor angle or thought I could get there when I had no chance.

I can post some clips later, but on the topic of dives, I actually listed that as an area of improvement from years past. I think they are very well done, and realistic. You no longer have that boost animation when transitioning to a dive. (I have old videos of what I mean). This year, there is that decision to make, and there are just balls that you can't get to running or diving. I've literary found myself in-between and afterwards saying "yeah there was no way to get to that." Before you didn't have to time it as well and really didn't have anything to lose by diving every time. In general, timing and reaction time are key and very rewarding IMO, when pulled off successfully.

I've seen a big variety of outcomes too. From diving past or over the ball, deflections off of the glove to trapping the ball between the player and ground. I caught a line drive on the fly by diving with Altuve just last night. I think I had a ball that I dove just missed in the same game at first base. That said, fielding ratings matter too.

      EDIT

I put together this compilation of all these type of plays, from two games I played yesterday. I'll edit my post for context a little later:

I agree 100% I think the dives are perfect! Its exciting having to decide the last second to dive or stay on your feet

            Re: Diving Plays?

if you are referring to the r1 dives the game slows down for you in RttS mode, they 100% are unnecessary and 100% are a slow animation that doesn't sync with the game. Your guy for some reasons goes into slow mo and dives like he's 87 years old slowly falling into his bed. Meanwhile the 90 speed hitter is well on his way to 1st at regular game speed.

Last year I used to do them just because it gave you more training points, but this year it doesn't so I ignore them. If you just press towards the way the ball is going you usually do a relatively easy fielding animation and make an easy out, whereas with the dive it would have been difficult to make the play.

It seriously doesn't make any sense. Every time it does this I guarantee you you can easily field the ball without diving. I still press accidentally do it at times out of habit. But just do it some time. Ignore the prompt and just run towards the way the ball is going. You'll make the play easily.

Not the experience I have with this at all with RTTS. Guess maybe it's position dependent. The only time it slows down for my position is showtime opportunities. If you have it optioned on you get one here and there that results in some visually cool HR robbing plays, and OF fielding diving plays. They require you to move the left stick into a certain direction into a circle and you have to hit whatever button it prompts you for. You certainly wouldn't have caught the majority of the ones I've seen. I have it turned off because I like the challenge more of trying to make same plays without it. I have the "Dirty Jersey" trophy.

                Re: Diving Plays?

I 100% had to manually dive for this ball:

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/D8c5RJerXP4?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The reason I recorded this in the first place was because the CPU went 1st to 3rd on an infield groundout btw - a first for me.

Yea I’d assume it doesn’t happen for OF. Happens for IF positions very often though
