Pinch Hitter Substitution

I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere. In my Franchise, I brought in a pinch hitter for my pitcher. After the inning was complete, I wanted to replace the centerfielder with the pinch hitter, but it would not allow me to, because it said I could not replace him with a pitcher. So then I was going to replace the pinch hitter (pitcher's spot) with a pitcher from the bullpen, but it wouldn't allow me to replace the position player until he faced the first batter. Is this a glitch or did I do something wrong? In past games I know you could swap the pinch hitter to a position and then replace the position player with a pitcher from the bullpen. I would appreciate anyone's help!!
