    Double plays

Does anyone else feel like they hit into too many double plays or have any advice to stay out of them. I find that year after year im always near the top in this category. I stay away from balls low in the zone in these situations, and square up quite a good amount of balls, but more times than not i hit into a double play.

Theres almost times id rather just bunt or take a strike out because the double play is so deflating

    No.

I was actually looking at stats last night to see where my team ranked in various categories and I'm mid-pack on GIDP. I don't recall the exact number, 18th maybe??? but I'm not where near the bottom of the list for GIDP.

I really don't have any additional tips for you outside of what you're already doing, which is staying away from pitches low in the zone. Only other advice I could offer would be to try to sit and wait for a fastball and not swing at breaking pitches, but that would be about it.

In previous years definitely. Not so much this year. Beating them out at first more often.

        Re: Double plays

I hit in to double plays constantly. doesn't matter if they ball is up or down in the zone. I play directional so I am not sure if that is why.

If I have a guy on first there is a huge chance a double play is happening at some point.

I tried to keep track of it thru the stats last year and i found the stats to be inaccurate. I hit in to 4 dp's in a game and the stats at the end only showed 1.

When I get done with GOW I will start tracking it again and see if it keeps them accurately.

I was thinking of the wrong stat that I was mid-pack. I'm actually 6th in the league in fewest double plays hit into with 20. The A's have the most at 36 and the Marlins have the least at 13. I have played 46 games.

            Re: Double plays

Im a Directional Hitter and use upward push/pull to stay out of innings ending double play situations. It even works well with change ups and sinkers which I often pop over the infield.

              Re: Double plays

Hitting into double plays comes from too much weak contact which instead should be more swings and misses.

Oh, yes. Almost any ground ball with a runner on first is a double play. My batter almost never beats the throw to 1st. It seems like the CPU always gets incredibly fast turns. Almost impossibly so. They can transfer and throw so fast. I think that's a lot of the issue.

Yup, even my player with 97 speed hits into a double play on a ground ball to shortstop.

                    Re: Double plays

Yeah the game does lend itself to a lot of DP for a few reasons, the most obvious being the computers incredibly sharp infield defence, but also how hard it is to strike out results in more balls in play, which obviously means more ground balls.

Personally, I find lowering the fielders reactions makes a huge difference, you'll end up with a lot more realistic amount of ground balls getting through the infield and less DP's as well

I believe CPU players with lower speed ratings run faster than my players. My team with auto fielding can never double up a CPU player with speed over 75. Another thing I noticed is how far off the baseline some of my players run when they should have at least a double, and that includes Ronald Acuna. Often it looks like he's running towards the stands. Who knows, maybe there is a good-looking girl in the stands

I agree with the doubles. And the long followthroughs on some of the swings don't help. Trying to tune baserunning for me was picking if I wanted better movement on the bases or going home-to-first to not get out of hand, which shouldn't be since home-to-first should be similar on both.

I don't know if I've seen CPU players run faster. I tried to time them on going home-to-first to set my baserunning and they come in at the same time and my baserunning speed is 8.

I do have a max infield throw slider, so maybe that offsets.

If anything, it's even with regards to DPs for me and CPU.

In my last 12 games across all franchises, I've hit into 6 DPs. CPU also has 6 DPs.

I've not looked at my stats but seems like I've hit into a realistic amount. Try not to take the bait early in the count as CPU does seem to go soft and away with a man on 1st early in the count. That's what I've noticed at least.

Some games I hit into a lot of them, some games I don't. Hell I even hit into double plays while bunting at times because the bunt lands right at the first baseman's feet. Or I would hit a line drive off the pitcher's body and the ball bounces directly at the 3rd baseman's feet and get a DP that way.
