Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
So it seems as though the majority highly recommend getting this game. Now I'll ask you this...where is a good place to find a PS4 besides gamestop's literal brand new pricing for a "used/refurbished" system...~ Return of the King ~Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
I am currently not someone who would enthusiastically suggests buying a console just for The Show, but if you get one, then you'd definitely be happier going for PS4 Pro. I have the game running on PS4 original and Pro side by side all the time, and seeing the staggering difference in the frame-rate and graphical fidelity, there is no way that I play The Show on PS4 original.Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
I can tell you're going to be disappointed if you buy 18. Same ol game with sprinkles of newness on it with chunks (modes) missing.
As an owner of 17, 18 isn't worth more than $30.Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
OK, if you had 17....I could see you being swayed not to buy the game.
But the last version you have is 16? Yeah, that's a really large jump....I think you HAVE to make that change. The ball physics and hitting/fielding improvements alone are worth the price of admission.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
$65 = 6500 pennies
6500 pennies divided by 365 days
thats 18 cents a day, a steal by my calculating
SDS is practically paying you to play.
and if 18 lasts you TWO years and you don't buy again until MLB 2020,
then thats 9 cents a day. that's a bigger bargain than the Angels got from Ohtani.
which is another thing you don't have in 16, at least not the real deal Ohtani lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
If it was just buying The Show 18 I would have already done it, but I don't have a PS4, that's the only reason I really questioned it from the OP.
Damn you PS4 exclusive!~ Return of the King ~Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
OOTP is the superior game when it comes to being a GM of a team. It is an incredibly deep game. But it's also text based. Have you watched any of the OTTP 19 YouTube videos to see if this sort of baseball would interest you and keep you satisfied while you wait for the PS4, PS4 Pro and possible PS5 options to sort themselves out. That may be the way to go. But if you like swinging the bat, or throwing the ball. There is only one way to go. MLB The Show on one of the PS4 consoles.Last edited by My993C2; 05-09-2018, 10:51 PM.Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
MLB The Show is an excellent graphical interpretation of the game of baseball. Yes it has it's flaws, it's not perfect. But if you can get over the flaws you can have tons of fun with the game. But you don't have the necessary console hardware at this time to play it and I am not so sure I would be buying a new full price PS4 these days what with the rumors that Sony will be releasing a PS5 in the not too distant future. Then there is the PS4 Pro which will be better than the PS4, but do you have the right TV or monitor to put the PS4 Pro to good use? The entertainment value of MLB The Show is good despite what the detractors say. But only you know if you can afford the price it will cost to get into it again. Have you looked to see if there are any used consoles in your area?

As a diehard baseball fan I am sure I am not the only one who is without a PS4 and really wants the show, quite the racket I may add, it's pretty frustrating.
OOTP 19 may be my solution for the short term. Despite being the text based simulator, it may scratch the itch at least for the next 6 baseball months of the year. I'll have to do more research on it.
I appreciate those of you who have responded and voted, your comments truly have made a difference.~ Return of the King ~Comment

Re: Talk me into/out of buying The Show 18
If you're mostly a franchise mode player, I would recommend that you give OOTP 19 a whirl. Let me be clear that all I know of MLB the Show 18 is what I've seen from dev streams and occasionally reading posts here, I do not own this year's game. The changes that I saw to franchise mode for MLB the Show 18 were unimpressive to me. The Phases addition is basically fancy outlook reminders to keep you on task regarding what part of the season that you are in. They made retro mode available in franchise mode, so if you're into that you'll have that mode available. However, to my knowledge there is (or was) a nasty bug where if the world series ended before October 25th then the user could not do any offseason tasks unless they set those tasks to auto.
As for RTTS, while I feel that the new player archetypes are neat and that progression is now tied to how well you perform is a welcome change (no more training points). However, those archetypes each have attribute caps that can be exceeded by equipment bonuses. So for newly created players this isn't so much of an issue, however, it does mean that you cannot be a straight 99 attribute player no matter how hard you work.
Overall, I would say it's not worth it this year for someone who mainly plays offline (especially a franchise player), as most of the focus seems to have been put into Diamond Dynasty and the new legends.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but OOTP is not a video game, it’s a simulation ?
Though franchise is pretty much the EXACT same as 17 and before, I want to play a game not manage a simulation.
