I would be interested, if we are talking numbers, in how much the made post launch in "DLC" sales of stubs, packs etc. As long as that number continues to grow nothing will change in the path they are taking with this game. If they are generating year long revenue, launch week sale are not a worry to them at all.

If these numbers posted have any meaning, that is. Sony would have the actual sales data all to themselves internally.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)
Something seems not quite right with the op's chart. 17 sales were based on 3 days of sales and it outsold 18's sales, which are based on 8 days of sales?OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

If that is VGChartz, then those numbers are not accurate, at all.
It came in #3 on NPD in April (Just behind GoW and FC5), and NPD listings are not unit based, but revenue based. I can almost bet their revenue is not down.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Do you know how that compares to last year? Using your numbers?Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)
NPD rankings are revenue based. MLB The Show 17 was number 4 on the April NPD last year, and this year 18 is number 3, just behind two heavy hitters in GoW which we do know sold 5 million copies in one month, and FC5 which we do not have numbers (plus it is multiplat).
Now since we do not have actual official numbers, we cannot deduce what they sold, especially when digital sales are steadily increasing in the overall sales %'s every year, and Sony does not release those numbers to anyone (other than their NPD/tracking partners).
But to be just behind FC5 which is Multiplat (so it is number 2 in revenue on the NPD with all the platforms combined) and above a bunch of other new software on the list, like the Nintendo Labo and new Switch software in revenue, it is safe to assume they did not lose money over last year like one thinks based on the inaccurate Chartz. If anything they are either even or ahead. And with DD constantly growing (expenditure), like most of these modes do every year, they are not losing out if at all.

Another thing to note it is number 8 overall software sales in NA of 2018, where last year at this time it was number 10.
Sony also broke software sales records for the month of April (previously held in 2008 by the 360), which it more than likely had a boost to help with that.

Very speculative ^^^, but I guess that's what we have to go on if some data is inaccurate and other data is not publicly available.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I will ask Mat (the NPD Analyst in the video) if it is tracking over last year and see if he is able to disclose that or not.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)
Yeah, I agree. Less revenue means less of everything next year. Bravo! We did it!
What it means to me, as an offline player, is that I don't need to buy next year's game. Which will affect revenue, which will... Aw, never mind.
I've said it before. Sports games that try to be everything to everybody are going to be "meh" to everyone, particularly these third party releases that have limited resources. This is why there needs to be at least two legitimate baseball titles on the market. Cash-cow that Major League Baseball is, it's amazing that they cannot negotiate a deal for a multi-platform baseball game that doesn't totally suck. Truly, RBI Baseball makes me ultra-thankful for The Show. :\Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)
I think a contributing factor is that they really undersold how polished this game is. This year wasn't a day-one purchase for me and wasn't going to be a game I bought at all until I read a lot of the impressions. The feature list may be small but once I play the game, it's a ton of fun.

Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)
First, to the OP, those sales figures are not spot-on and are estimates. Second, your math is way off in how profit works. Each unit sold is not $60 profit. Lastly, even if all your assumptions were correct, this doesn't account for dlc and other purchases within the game, that could offset any dips in overall sales of the product. But just know, your math is way off for how these things work.
Second, I never mentioned the word profit... YOU did. I referred to sales as in revenue. Big difference.
Lastly, your DLC purchases could easily be offset had I mentioned that not every sale was a $60 hit. Some sales could have been MORE when you account for the higher dollar versions of The Show (MVP Editions & All Rise Editions) that were going for $70 or $100 respectively.
So just know my math is WAY ON in forming the big picture on how things are working for SDS.Comment
