Re: MLB The Show 18 (Week 1 Sales)

“As were people in 2017 The Show...
    YET...
there are now LESS of them buying those DD packs in 18 as there were in 17.”

Not necessarily. You even said it yourself that it was the online franchise, no season guys making the statement with their wallet. I highly doubt SDS cares about your $60 and that’s the whole point. That’s why free to play games exist. Fortnite and Rocket league are paving the way for that and as great as that sounds it will ultimately be the death of the way I play games.
The money they get from you purchasing the game is chump change compared to what they can make off dlc. That’s every developers bread and butter. Those of us that purchase for offline are just icing on the cake.
I’m not complaining because SDS has been the least greedy of the bunch so far. You need to understand that offline player purchasers not buying is actually telling them they don’t need to support US not the other way around. Im not telling anyone how to spend their money but that war we lose. Way of the world man. I plan on riding this offline modes as long as I can and enjoy them before they are gone.

MLB The Show 18 (Week 2 Sales)

And the hits keep on coming!

2nd Week Sales Numbers are In.
Another dip of 4,200 units compared to last year translates to approximately a Quarter Million in potential lost sales for this second week.

This places their current potential sales losses (vs. last yrs projections) at $9.2 Million Dollars in the US alone.

(Apologies for the incorrect initial post numbers, nobody thought to check my math, and I have since corrected it.)

Didn't see it mentioned yet. But VGChartz only covers retail sales. They have no access to what sells digitally on the Playstation Network/Xbox Live for any game.

I recall reading an article a week or so ago stating The Show 18 had the best first month of any game in the history of the franchise.

I read the same thing. Article stated that sales were strong for the 2nd month in a row. Or something similar.

More than that, the game released several days early via Download, so brick and mortar will be behind by every measure.

Oh, c'mon & play along. This doesn't fit the agenda's narrative.

I don't see what posting those VGChartz numbers is doing for us if we have essentially been told they are useless numbers and not based in reality for one reason or another. Not accounting for digital or preorders is a huge, fatal flaw in the data. Especially when it's become increasing popular compared to disc.

I really hope SDS got the message this year from us offliners (would like to purchase MLBTS 19 if they can show some progress there), but we won't really know what their focus is until they start revealing their plan sometime in Jan/Feb of 2019.

With the amount of awesome DD teams I face either people are really good or they spent quite a bit of money on stubs. I really think it's on the stubs.

MLB The Show 18 (Week 3 Sales)

Despite lack of Digital Sales... there still appears to be a disturbance in the force.

3rd Week Sales Numbers are In.
And this time the trend flips as The Show 18 showed an INCREASE of 19,000 more physical units in that week than compared to the year before.

Despite the increase... (why? Good marketing?) This places their current total potential hard unit sales losses (vs. last yrs projections) at $8 Million Dollars in the US alone.

Despite lack of digital download data, you'll be hard pressed to convince me that their online sales can cover that $8 Million gap.

MLB The Show 18 (Week 4 Sales)

There IS a disturbance in the force...

4th Week Sales Numbers are In.
MLB The Show 18 is still going strong outperforming this 4th week by +24,700 units compared to last year.

To play Devil's Advocate... I can simply explain this data because so many people chose to buy MLB The Show 17 using online downloads in Week 4... then they realized they didn't want to make that same mistake (Need bigger HD, Can't sell game back, etc.) for MLB The Show 18 and decided on the hard copy unit instead. So it really goes both ways.

So to compare hard unit sales only, MLB The Show 18 is still under-performing in the US Market by about $6.6 Million versus last year.

As I've said in the beginning, any sales data numbers not replicating or surpassing it's previous year should be cause for alarm to the higher ups at SDS and Sony. Again, the goal is not to put SDS out of business... but to shake them up enough to course correct their ship and release a product in 2019 that doesn't favor a DD Market and also discriminate the OL enthusiast.

Only SDS studio knows what the health of their financial goals are... but consider had these VGChartz figures mirrored 17 in the first place, I'd never have a leg to stand on.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
