I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Is vgchartz the only source for this kind of info? I'd like to see how others interpret and massage the numbers that are publicly available.

@ Caulfield - love a good Seinfeld quote, especially when it is perfectly applicable to the situation. There is either a Simpsons or Seinfeld quote for just about any situation.

Regarding the topic of this thread...

        1) to attribute noticeable sales losses to the removal of Online Franchise or Season Mode or Both is way over-simplifying. I seem to remember SDS saying at one point a couple years ago that only a few thousand people played online franchise anyway. Could be mistaken...

        2) anyone thinking the unknown number that is the Digital Download Sales number for MLB The Show 18 is not enough to explain a large portion of the physical copy dip in sales is being a little naive. The early release, the extra goodies included with the Digital Download, the fact that internet speeds are getting so fast, the fact that more people are streaming all forms of media they consume, not just games - all of these things certainly point to much increased Digital Download sales. But I guess none of us can say really, since we don't know what the digital sales number for The Show 18 are, right?

Anyway, business is not driven by sales, it is driven by profitability. Saying a noticeable sales decrease is proof that their game is failing? Proof that they made mistakes in making their design decisions? Look at Ford Motor Company - huge sales numbers, but the company is only the 18th most profitable (percentage wise)automaker. Compare to Volvo, just a small fraction of the total sales as Ford, but WAY more profitable. Come back and talk to me when you know SDS's bottom line numbers.

I play manage mode offline franchise only and I realize it is only my opinion but for me 2017 was a complete flop in terms of gameplay. There are probably multiple factors in why they lost sales but I suspect 2017 had something to do with it.

Lack of online franchise could be another factor. Failure to add much to franchise other than new menus could be a factor.

I've suggested in multiple threads to compartmentalize gameplay patches instead of forcing everybody to play with the same patch. That might help increase sales.
