    Full Broadcast Pace of Play

How is this years full broadcast improved; plus the pitch delay option, in terms of pace of gameplay? Has it been expanded back to its original purpose? Originally there were, frankly, 3 options for pace. Slow, which is the natural pace of a baseball game, Intermediate (Hybrid) for those who typically x and leap through everything and FastPlay which is their official feature for those with very limited time and it comes standard for those using QuickCounts..

It's important when giving time to full games that the experience matches what I logged on for. In MLB 16 for instance, the daylight between Full Broadcast and FastPlay was impossible to notice. For an extremely long time now (closing in on 10 years), this concept has been depleted, eroded, stripped, sacrificed, you name it and I'm just wondering if by now they have come to their senses. I've said it before, it's a beautiful game and it's a shame to given such a cheap experience just for trying to play it out.

Re: Full Broadcast Pace of Play

I myself have been wanting an experience in which each game in the franchise would last a good two and a half to three hours per game to give it that real life feel. including such things as fake commercials in between innings for exactly two minutes or so, or is it more like a minute and a half.? anyway... I want the full-on presentation.

more look-ins into the dugout, more after home run celebrations in a dugout, more crowd scenes with kids eating or whatever... I want it all just like on tv. I would be willing to fly out to SD and watch a few games with the team for an entire weekend and have them take deep notes on everything and implement them into the game for those of us that would enjoy it.

I know not everyone would enjoy this full one in your face, time-consuming style but there are those of us that def would. what I telly want back and they say that is saved a whole five minutes of game time to take it out. was... watching the catcher throw back the ball to the pitcher and having him get it back and do all this stuff before getting ready to pitch...

there are so many small things during a REALL LIFE tv broadcast that make it what it is that is not in this game that they cant' REALLY call it a SIMULATION. the devil is in the detail folks... and there are so many little ones that need to be added in.

This should most certainly still be a part of the Broadcast presentation option. They have trimmed stuff like this out of the game to a significant extent over the past few yrs.. in fact it started going away with The Show 12.

MLB The Show 11 was really the last year of full sequence batter/pitcher duels.. aka complete in-between pitch set ups and practice swings.

They may disagree but a broadcast presentation can be the most enticing feature that brings outsiders into the genre, as they openly have been appealing for. Dugouts are still lifeless, unfortunately, but I see they are trying to improve them. Real-time life from the dugouts and bullpens would be a terrific achievement, just like they're proud of having the best looking crowds.

One gameplay factor that pace of play is most hazardous for those playing out every pitch stems from pitch counts. The requirements for playing every pitch are obliterated when you reach the various pitch counts and need a moment to analyze your best options. Ironically, the importance of this concept is recognized within the quick counts feature because you're presented with a scenario breakdown before beginning each at bat.

For the gravity of pitch counts to be ignored is nearly the same as obliterating the play clock from a football game. (Imagine reading a coverage or blitz scheme preplay and strategizing being eliminated from you because the play clock is literally 5 seconds, since they decided most people want to see the action faster, there would be a mutiny online for that series..)

They definitely brought some of the old school pace of play back on 18. This is the best it has been since 11.

Not like 11. But best since then.

If you do not “X” through cut scenes the average game will last you easily almost two hours.

2 hrs per game? I'd never get anywhere in my franchises.

I admire those that can, but since I want to play every pitch of every game AND progress through my franchise multiple seasons per cycle, I couldn't do it.

If each game took two hours, I'd have to resort to simming. At that point, I might as well play OOTP.

Commercials? No way for me. But I'd really like it if you could stay in the ballpark while the defense comes on and starts warming up between innings.. Would give a little time to enjoy whatever music you've laboriously imported into the between inning cuts (plus the full 7th inning stretch), and maybe give you a minute to refresh your beverage of choice.

I have to disagree armor, 13 was the first time i played the show and the time between pitches was a lot slower, i could take 2 practice swings between pitches, walkups were a lot longer and SoTS worked better imo with more idle time between pitches so sounds got to play longer where as now sounds play and cut into each other, it just seems so rushed.

While there are more between pitches scenes that stretch out the time between pitches i still think things like walk ups have been reduced even further in 18.

Agree on walk ups being reduced. But the overall pace of play was really improved at least since the move to PS4

I might have enjoyed something like that 15 years ago. Probably once or twice. But you'll spend more time watching than actually playing.

I can't even sit down and JUST watch a baseball game on tv.

I exercise while I play. I use a treadmill and then my ab lounger along with a big exercise ball. You can also stretch etc while playing.

                        Full Broadcast Pace of Play

The issue to me is less that I want to watch every stinking little moment of fine pacing detail and more that I’d like to be the one who decides what I watch and when.

Like yeah I skipped tons of stuff back in the day when everything played out in full, and then they turned around and used that “data” to say I don’t want to see catchers throw the ball back anymore? But the same 3 or 4 batter-standing-in-box cutscenes and the 3 or 4 closeup-of-the-pitcher cutscenes, those can stay. People want those. They never skip those. Come on.

It’s giving the player the option of what to skip and when, and not ripping out damn near all control of the pace of play, while somehow still keeping in tact enough boring slog cutscenes that I’m still skipping a ton of stuff.
                        Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Yeah, this is what I don't really understand.

They put in the choice for the player (use the X button).

So why take anything out? Maybe some days I don't mind, and some days I might try to cram in a game before work or something.

Why does it need to be universal when the mechanic is there to just let the players pick and choose?
