Having trouble changing hitting interface. How do I change it?

Hi there this was my first baseball game in quite sometime so for the first month I choose pure analog hitting to get back into learning to play the game.I now want more control of my swing’s direction so I’d like to change to directional hitting, but for some reason it is not working. I went to my settings and changed the hitting interface to directional , but there is one problem I can’t swing.

I am pressing all the buttons on my PS4 controller and my batter keeps checking his swing. I tried using the analog stick and my player is still not swinging. Is there something else I have to do in order to change over? If someone could clear this up it would be much appreciated.

when you swing are you pressing X and holding it down or tapping it quickly and letting off?
that could cause the check swings, otherwise it sounds like the controller might be playing out?
