Earlier this week, I decided to make the change and finally use Game Mode on my Samsung 4K 55in JS8500 TV, and played around with the picture until I got something I really liked. The input lag is nearly nonexistent, whereas before I was playing the game in Dynamic picture mode with post-processing smoothing to make it as smooth as possible. With all that stuff on, I have always been forced to swing early to compensate for the input lag. Now that has all changed, and I honestly have really enjoyed the new experience.
One issue that I’ve been having, however, is the smoothing isn’t there as much. I can no longer get the post-processing “opera effect” that I could get without Game Mode, as that option becomes disabled. Hitting, pitching, and fielding have all been smooth, but transitions, replays, and little cinematic effects (including moving around in menus) felt sluggish. That’s until about 15 minutes ago when I turned on “HDMI UHD Color” in my Samsung’s options.
I refuse to use the HDR in game as it makes the game look god awful, and because of that I’ve always kept the HDMI UHD Color option off since it’s used for HDR. However, I’m noticing a huge change in smoothing with it enabled. The game is almost completely smooth in every aspect of it. I don’t know if I’m going crazy or something, but I SWEAR this isn’t how it has been playing all week. That option somehow enabled my game to play as smooth as butter, even without post-processing effects, game mode enabled, and HDR off.
Anyone else experience this?
