Extra innings
I'm not sure if all the minors are doing this, but the local single A team here did it at the last game I went to. The extra innings were done like the WBC with each team starting with a runner on 2nd. In my opinion I think it's a great way to reduce wear and tear on your players by not having them play 14 or 15 innings.

Re: Extra innings
The positive I can see in regards to the The Show is that after you play a long extra inning game, your bullpen and players are spent. If you happen to play a long game at the beginning of a stretch of games then your team is going to be crud until their next day off. Even then sometimes that day off is only minimal in getting the energy back in your players.
I guess one option that I would offer is to make an inning limit, like 12 innings, before the pre-set runner rule is applied. It's just my opinion but I feel like games that go 15-16 innings, although rare, really take a toll on the team.Comment

Re: Extra innings
To me, that fatigue is just part of baseball, and one of those things that just needs to be managed as best as possible. If any rule changes were to be done, maybe give teams the option of expanding their roster by a few players after 15+ inning games. Or maybe sort of have a short-term 'exhaustion DL' that players can be placed on if certain criteria are met, say after a 15 inning game, and if that player hasn't had a day off in x days, and played the entire game. Or if a pitcher threw for whatever double his average outing is. This would make those players ineligible for a day or two, and allow someone to be called up in the meantime. These are just possible ideas that could help that. Whatever the case may be, i wish they would leave the actual game rules alone. Changing game rules should be a very last resort to cure a major problem.Comment

Re: Extra innings
I agree with you NRSM, but the fact is that they are actually experimenting with it so it may very well become part of the game. But, as I said before, long games are pretty rare in the overall scope of the amount of games played. So if they do end up putting it in then it won't be an all-the-time thing.Comment

Re: Extra innings
this is the equivalent to the soccer and hockey ot shootout.
can you imagine this type format coming to football and basketball?
fieldgoal kicking contest and free throw shootout?
as long as this stays relagated to minor league baseball and below, and recreational softball leagues is one thing, but please to no for MLBOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23
