Re: Guys that use zone HOF or better
I personally dont use it just to keep from striking out in normal situations. I do use it more situationally though, to move a runner from 2nd to 3rd with nobody out, or to score him from 3rd with less than 2 outs etc. I basically use it when i absolutely need to put the ball in play.
i make exceptions for certain situations, like if a pitcher is just dominating me and i need to change something. Or if i need to get a baserunner on late in the game etc.
With my high power, high strikeout Joey Gallo i almost never contact swing with him, unless its late in the game and i need baserunners more than a HR. -
Re: Guys that use zone HOF or better
If you mean do I need/use it to avoid striking out with 2 strikes, absolutely not. I lose way too much power potential with that swing. It's not worth using to avoid strikeouts, IMO. I always swing normal on 2 strikes, even on Legend.
Put it this way - I believe I will consistently have more success getting on base swinging normal and risking the strikeout than I will using contact, avoiding the strikeout, but sapping my hitter of some of his power (which could turn a grounder base hit into a routine groundout, or a wall - scraping HR into a deep flyout.)
The only time I ever use contact is attempting to move a runner over or score him from 3rd with less than 2 outs. I don't even use it every time in that siuation, either - if I have even a 50-60 power hitter I'm probably swinging normal to hit a sac fly that's deep enough for a runner to score.

Agreed. I meant to add this same thing. I would rather sac fly and accidentally hit a gapper or home run in this situation.Comment

I only use normal swing. Nothing else.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Guys that use zone HOF or better
I don't play on HOF. I'm not nearly that good. But, in previous versions of the game, I would use the contact swing when I had two strikes and a lesser batter at the plate, given the right circumstance. Especially in a lefty on lefty matchup. It was an effective way to try and wait out the pitcher and try to get a hittable ball on occasion.
However, in this year's game, I don't find it to be nearly as effective as it used to be. Lots of weak popups, and almost never a hit to the opposite field like I used to get sometimes.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Guys that use zone HOF or better
I'll use contact swing in 3 ways:
Situational... hit and run... 2 strikes against and a runner on third... I really want to put the ball in play and move a runner
With hitters than can run out an infield single... for me that's guys like Reyes, Rosario, and Nimmo... I'll hardly ever use it with a Cespedes or a Bruce... this is with 2 strikes against.
Very over matched batters... a 68 overall batter against an 86 ovr pitcher on legend is scary... once I get a strike against I use the contact swing.Comment
