9 Earned Runs by the 2nd Inning, But I'm Confident!

Watching the Diamondbacks-Rockies game on FS1 right now. Shelby Miller gave up 5 runs in the 1st inning and guess what? HE got taken out! Jorge De La Rosa is pitching now. This makes sense. This is logical.

    Versus

The AI on this game where a pitcher gives up runs like this and are still in until the 7th inning sometimes. This is by far the worst thing about this game is AI bullpen logic. As long as he's confident he will be in the game, but you just gave up 9 runs in one inning!

I've had multiple games where I score 4 or more runs by the 4th inning (max 14 in the first 2 innings played versus the Braves and the final score was 21-3) and the pitcher is just chilling on the mound, no warming up other relievers or anything. It irritates the hell out of me. I just don't get it. This was an issue in 17 too. I hope this gets addressed in 19.

Never had that issue before in any of the games I've played.

tonight's indians vs. reds game - in real life.

there are no sliders to recreate that debacle for cincinnati. the stats for the 3rd/4th innings alone are off the charts for cleveland. it happens, i suppose...

Miller was removed due to a flare up in his pitching elbow. Granted, he wasn't going to make it long in the game, but likely would've gone past the first inning.

Sometimes it's because they used some of their bullpen in a previous game.

For example, against the Tigers, I lambasted Mike Fiers for 9 runs in 4 innings. All 3 relievers they put in were orange upon entering. There's a reason why they didn't put them in. They didn't want to use more of their bullpen when there's 2 games left in the series.

Yup, sometimes I’m getting shelled and the pen needs rest. Saddle up boy, I’ll take an ugly L if it saves my pen for a few days.

Saw that IRL at a AAA Mariners game. The previous game went 18 innings so the next day the bullpen was spent. They ended up losing a lot to a little but the starter was left in there. Sometimes it just happens that way.

If my starter gets shelled I usually make him wear it for at least 4 to 5 innings. Cant use up the pen on a game thats lost anyways. Same for my long reliever, if he is in for the rest of the game he is in for the rest of the game lol

Re: 9 Earned Runs by the 2nd Inning, But I'm Confident!

I carry 24 players on my Double A & Triple teams (12 position, 12 pitchers) then I put 2 extra pitchers, usually relief, who are also on my 40-man, I put them on my Single A team. Then I use those 2 for shuttling back and forth onto my big league squad to keep all my arms fresh.
I'll never be guilty of under-using optioning players back & forth, back & forth, from majors to minors, during the season. I usually use 3 & 4 relief pitchers that I constantly shuttle between levels to eat up innings for when my starter bombs. So basically I have a 27 man roster instead of 25

I now try to carry 45 pitchers & 45 position players instead of the 46 or 47 position players I use to carry.

                  My personal setup/breakdown
                  MLB - 13 pos., 12 pitchers
                  AAA & AA - 12 pos., 12 pitchers (4 outfielders)
                  Single A - 8 pos., 9 pitchers

EDIT: as for the OP, I wish for 19 ai wuld do this for other teams as well
