    NL Team Rebuilds

Just finished up my 1st season with the White Sox and my God my eyes are sore.

The black, white, gray, and dreary stadium are killing my eyes. Aside from those sexy road jerseys and retro SOX unis. Fun fun franchise, and I had a blast in that wild wild year but I need something more...eh...colorful. In the NL of course, because I enjoy a change of pace and I like to do NL/AL balance.

Narrowed it down to Giants, Marlins, Rockies, Cards, Pirates or DBacks. Maybe the Braves, but I'm sick of Blue and Red mix.

    Any other suggestions or pointers?

Should add the Phillies to that list. After you play one season you'll have a chance go sign both Machado and Harper.

The pirates are really fun. They have a nice young pitching staff, a decent bullpen that is also young and an amazing closer. The rest of their team is pretty young too, with most of their age being in the outfield with Dickerson and marte (both 29 I think) but you also get austin meadows. You also get to play in the best park in baseball.

The downside to them is they don’t have a lot of power (I use the osfm hybrid roster).

I think the reds would be a good option too. I know you’re tired of red uniforms but if you’re gonna use the osfm hybrid rosters, they are nice all over the field. Their pitching isn’t that great but it’s at least young and unlike the Pirates you have the prospects to move if you wanted to go get pitching

Hard to get more colourful than the Marlins! They sound like a fun challenge to me.

I dont have a good answer, but I know several people have gone with the pirates for a rebuild and it seems like they are having a blast playing with them in that beautiful park. So I will agree with this poster, just based on that alone.

I've been slowly picking away at one. Basically decided to sim season one while making trades throughout the season, then essentially starting my real deal in the offseason.

Very tough to do if you try to be realistic and not sign a Harper-Machado-Keuchel type.

I did the Pirates once and had a blast but lost interest because pretty much anyone that was anyone got hurt for the year in the first month. I might go back again though. I do love PNC Park.

I sort of want to go out west though. Rockies and DBacks intrigue me. Padres, meh. They're basically the Browns of the MLB. I know the Rockies have a lot of guys heading out(Arenado and Blackmon) and the DBacks are stuck with some bad contracts(Greinke).

Marlins also intrigue me considering that roster is a dumpster fire.

I really want a team with an absolutely horrible farm system. Even the White Sox had a pretty decent farm system as is, and in draft I'm only about 2 years and 1 All-Star away from a World Series.

I don't know man, I need to meditate on it

Those underachieving Pirates. First thing I'd do is fire Hurdle. Something has to give with that team.

I know we're talking NL, but Seattle is kind of entertaining. Good enough players, but you have to navigate with an aging roster, and Robbie Cano's untradeable contract. Also, no farm system because Dipoto is a crazy person.

You know who doesn't have a farm system and might prove to be very entertaining? The Mets.

Edit: Blackmon re-signed long term. He's not going anywhere!

Lol yeah, i kinda liked ol' Hurdle when he was the Rangers hitting coach. Maybe he should go back to that.

The Giants could be a fun one. They don’t have a very good farm system and they also have an interesting twist where they have the pieces for you to try and win now and contend but are in a position where they will soon need a rebuild as many of their highest rated players are 30+ years old. Posey is 31, Cueto is 32, Melancon is 33, Crawford is 31, Longoria is 32, McCutchen is 31, Watson is 32, etc. If you play realistically pretty much the only guy their that will bring you back a haul of young talent to help replenish the farm system is MadBum.

Yeah the Giants really intrigue me. I was thinking about trading the house out for Stanton

The DBacks are the frontrunner for me though. Not exactly a great roster but good enough to go up or down but the dealbreaker is obviously the farm system. I don't know how good their farm is.

My top 5 is this right now
                        1. DBacks
                        2. Pirates
                        3. Marlins
                        4. Rockies
                        5. Giants

                          Re: NL Team Rebuilds

While I always start with my childhood hometown team of the Reds (mostly because I love a realistic rebuild and they are prime team for that) The Marlins are a good choice. They have the 13th or 15th pick in the draft I think and by then most if not all Blue Chip guys are gone. The park is meh but the jerseys give you a lot of color options. They also don't have a ton of prospects that are legit MLB ready within 3-5 years. They also have players like Relamuto and Castro that they are trying to trade IRL so it won't take way too long to rebuild.

I think the Giants are a sleeper rebuild team. They are old with long contracts. You can trade them and start over. Plus the park is cool.

I like the Padres because I like complete rebuilds and the stadium is nice but I can't stand when they wear the current navy blue hat with the old school jackets in the dugout. Drives me crazy.

The Pirates are just now becoming an option for me. Mostly because of the realism of a rebuild, the park, and the unis.

I'll likely run with the Giants in next year's version. Players will be older, some retired, some will have left, etc... They'll likely be a worse team.

I went with the Marlins because, I actually do like Marlins park

Realmuto is one of my favorite players in the game to roll with. Bour is a pain because he has no concept of "check swing" but I'm having a ton of fun with Brinson and Maybin. J.T. Riddle is quickly becoming one of my favorites as well(he's batting .315 a month in!!)

I just don't like the Padres. I love Petco park but I absolutely despise their uniforms and they basically are the Browns of the MLB.
