Exercise club option in franchise???

I'm in 2031 off-season of my carryover franchise I've been playing since 2016...

First stage of offseason I can extend qualifying offers and hire coaches, the first "significant date" alerts me that I have a club option to decide on and it's the deadline...but there's no where to do it?? I cannot exercise the option and my guy hits free agency????

I recall a bug where some options weren't available in off-season and you were unable to sign some guys but I thought this was fixed.. what gives? I'm super invested I've been playing the same chise since MLB 16 and this guy has hit 30+ bombs for me 4 years in a row and his option is super team friendly. Am I missing something? Can I not exercise the option?

Ok I need help. I don't know if I'm missing something or if there is a bug or issue going on with franchise mode.

I am using a carrover franchise from 2016. I just completed the year 2019 in the game and am currently in the offseason. I am doing the Exclusive Negotiations Phase.

Problem....I can't sign any of my non-exclusive players nor can I exercise Club options on 3 players...

I was able to exercise club options on Trevor Rosenthal and Jordan Walden but not these 3 players and I don't want any of the 3 to become free agents.

Am I missing where I'm supposed to go to sign non-exclusive players or to exercise club options? Really confused and annoyed. Other teams are signing non-exclusive players and exercising options.

This is separate from the franchise bug talked about and fixed by SDS earlier as once I get past this phase, I can work with contracts like normal.

I tried and tried to figure out where I was missing it, but couldn't find it. My 3 players went to free agency, but luckily I was able to re-sign all 3.

So it sounds like it's a bug and we should not offer club options because they're unable to actually be exercised

It’s definitely a bug, I had it happen to me. But it doesn’t seem to be a permanent one since in the offseason after I encountered this bug, I was able to exercise a club option with one of my players without any issues. So it seems to be random.

Happened to me a few nights ago. Was checking FA players, and say my SS Brendan Rodgers there. Backed out and reloaded my save and noticed he had an option. Couldnt find it, couldnt exercise it. Luckily he only wanted a 3 mil raise or I would have been screwed.



With the Rockies, I live or die by options to be honest. I'm quite a few number of years in the future, and it seems players like Cargo, or Charlie Blackmon will only sign 2 year deals with an club or player option. It's weird. But, it also saves me money as each year, they take less and less $$$.

I was hoping this bug was fixed in one of the patches but unfortunately it wasn't.

Currently in the off-season and I just lost Stephen Piscotty to free agency due to him having a club option this year, and there is no way for the user to access a screen to either exercise or decline the option.

I really hope this is fixed for '19

What an horrible bug. I am having it now after two seasons. I have like 10 players that have options. It's like a complete feature that is broken for me.

I suddenly want a refund.

I agree, this is a bug that should not still be in the game. It almost seems to me that they rushed the new menus and forgot about some key screens and have given the user no way to access them.

I should be able to check the waiver wire AT ANY POINT during my season. I cant remember when it was(playoffs maybe?Havent played for a few months now) but there was one part of the season where unless you had an email saying a good player was placed on waivers you could not access the waiver wire, which is a huge miss.

I really hope they fix this and update franchise mode with more things such as in season extensions, player options etc.etc..

I moved forward because I didn't have any save into the past season. I got one player that was in AAA that showed in the team option. Didn't make any sens to me on why he was there...

I try many variations for a workaround: didn't work. I saw that the problem was exposed at theshownation's forum, but they didn't fix or don't seems to care.

I am thinking putting back 2017, and surely will not buy 2019 until I know for SURE the franchise off-season is working properly.

To be polite, 2018 was a rush product and half baked. But I would certainly like to say some other words about it. In my case, it's like Tulo with the Jays: You have an uphill battle to prove yourself!

I just switch team as a GM and I don't think the teams controlled by the AI, is doing any kind of team options.

I didn't verified the other teams because the options only shows in the off-season.

I don't believe AI controlled teams offer any player/team/mutual options.


You can check by going to the player's card and then tabbing to his contract page. At the bottom it will designate if there is an option or not.

I am going to begin my Yankees Year 2 off-season this evening. I have a club option of OF Jarrod Dyson that I am going to decline.

Is the bug that it simply does not allow you to pick up the club option or decline or one or the other.

I will stream it if I am not experiencing the bug and report back here.

I use club options...especially on veteran deals where I like to give them a 2 year deal with a club option for the second year.

The bug is that there are players that will have club/player options on their contract that you cannot either exercise or decline because there is no place to do so.

This doesn't occur with all player/club options. Some will pop up on screen showing they have options to be decided upon and you can either decline or exercise those, and then other players will not show up on this screen and you cannot do anything with them.

Ahh so it is a random bug.

Well Dyson's showed up and I can decline it. So I got lucky. I really hope this addressed for 19. It is a major bug for Franchise mode junkies like us.
