Are we ever going to see a new feature dedicated to umpires?

I feel like variable umpiring as an option is definitely not enough. We are seeing way more horrible calls that result in major delays in games in RL. I think The Show can expand on what is already in place and add in scenes and short moments of umpires converging more to review a call in huddle and conversation with players reflecting upon what just previously happened. You see it in real life a lot and it would also add more to the "player emotion" side of the game that was just recently brought into play. I'd like to know your thoughts on this and if we can see the umpires taking a bigger toll on this game. Umpiring accounts for probably 20-30% of what you see in real life and makes a game change fast. I am all for the emotion side of baseball in The Show

They could definitely expand on the challenge system. Right now the only thing it seems you can challenge is a safe call at first. I've never even seen an option to challenge on a close play where the runner is called out. I've never seen an option to challenge at any base other than first. I don't think I've ever seen the CPU challenge anything. It's literally just safe calls on close plays at first.

The thing I want most is to be able to name the umpires, raise the amount from the 20 or 21 in the game to at least 60, assign them the tendency of do they call more balls or more strikes and if they have a high strike zone or low. Somebody like Jordan Baker, who is 6'7, I'd give a high zone to. Quinn Wolcott, 5'9, low zone. MLB will never allow it but reasons for player/manager ejections could also be used & whether or not a particular ump has a short fuse. On a called 3rd strike, you could choose to keep your batter standing at the plate looking at the ump by holding down the square button and if you hold it too long you're ejected but if you let go square in time, that players next at bat, he could get a favorable call on a borderline pitch. Managers could have ejections possible by, after losing a challenge, coming out of the dugout to ''discuss'' the decision with the ump. Stay out too long, shower time. Head back to the dugout in time, the next few borderline pitches could go your way. But again, MLB will never allow it.

I agree and yes MLB will never allow it, but in all reality, IT IS a part of baseball, and arguing balls/strikes etc it not "VIOLENT" so having it in the game would just add to realism.

Yeah, managers and players already give dirty looks to umpires, bark at umps from the dugout etc. and players even throw their bats after strikeouts. Too bad they won't allow it to be user choice and allow it to play a more realistic role and affect the gane.

I would rather it be a player tendency as that would expand the personality and emotion of the players and might become an intangible factor in roster building when a good player might get himself ejected/suspended more than average because of his "Quick Temper" and "Argumentative" quirks.

Combine that with Caulfield's ideas with umpires and we have a dynamic personality system, especially in tight situations when emotions are heightened.

As for the challenge system, I've seen chances to challenge when my batter is thrown out at first. But, yeah, it's always first base and only that play.

I think it would be cool to personalize/edit the umpires (and the managers). Certainly, if it were either/or, my hunch is most people would want the managers to be editable/have actual traits and philosophies/provide unique value etc long before the umpiring crew gets any attention.

It would also be cool to have an historical strike zone you could call up for each ump. Even if it's not based on real data, you could visualize how umpire X's strike zone differs from umpire Y's.

I can live with them not building in ejections/fights/charging the mound/colorful arguments/ump show, but I agree with the OP that any ability to add depth to the umpiring crew would be welcomed.

absolutely editable managers & coaches have to take priority over umps.
in fact I'd qualify editable manager & coaches as necessary & anything new to umps as a luxury.

Being an umpire in real-life, the thing I think they need to work on the most are the umpire mechanics. They're horrifying in this game.

I've seen a challenge at 1st on both safe and out calls. CPU never challenges and there are none on any other plays.

Man you guys should've seen my most recent ump. Dude called tall and not wide. About 3 calls were up and not even touching the black. One was a curveball! Haven't seen any ump that extreme before.
