I just love how they don't even mention franchise mode anymore in the adds. Have a feeling that it is kind of foreboding as well.

      I don't worry about it.

Honestly your diehard baseball fans have all, or almost all, decided on whether to buy the game or not based on information/modes/feedback/reviews when the game released. At the end of September you're trying to pull in a "new" buyer of the game, and one who isn't likely to spend a ton of time playing the game. So therefore, you're going to market things within the game that are different, or quick paced that could potentially sway a "casual" baseball fan to pick up the game and try it out for $20.

So I guess if we all just waited until the price came down, they would feel compelled to make a more interesting game. I know this is for new people but what about ya diehard fans who pay full price for a recycled game year after year?

If a diehard fan feels the game is recycled year after year, then they should probably stop buying it. You purchasing the game is indicating that you feel the game is good enough and has made enough improvements to be worth a purchase.

Well thats all well and good. I will be in the wait and see group next year. Unless major changes to franchise come along or changes in real life, I wont be picking up next years on launch.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get into MLB and start following it. I really love sports but the only baseball I ever watch is college baseball during the conference and NCAA Tournament. I have yet to buy a MLB The Show game, and I want to learn more about the MLB, it's players, etc. Would this be the perfect opportunity to buy this game since it's on sale? On other sports games, I am mostly a franchise guy. Is the franchise mode on here deep enough? Are the games fast paced to play through? What is anything else interesting I should know?

For $20 it's a great price to dive in.

Franchise mode is "deep" for someone new to the sport. There are things that are missing that hardcore franchise baseball fans want (back in) but you should be able to enjoy the mode the first time through.

There are many options that can make the game more quick paced though if you're learning the sport, I would avoid some of them at the start. One option is for Quick Counts which generates a count for the start of every at-bat. So you might start with a 3-1 count or 2-2 count, for example. That definitely speeds up at-bats.

You also have presentation options that either give you the "full" broadcast experience, but you can also go with options that remove cut-away packages, remove batters walking up to the plate, and I think a few other things that pick up the pace.

And there are simulation options too that allow you to sim the game and jump in and out of the game when you want.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
