Well, the landscape of card collecting game modes is going to change dramatically over the next few years depending on how all these lawsuits pan out. Something to keep an eye on.

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
These card collecting game modes are game killers, been saying it for years. Every single sports game has gotten worse and much less consistent in gameplay since these modes have been added. Dev teams start making the game in a way that will push people to spend more money on packs and completely ignore every other game modes.
At some point, the bubble will burst on this game modes, and we'll just be left with a garbage game because they wanted more inconsistent and random gameplay because that keeps more people invested in DD and spending money on packs.
I used to play a little of every mode in the game, now most of the time when I turn it on I just sit there and then realize I dont actually even enjoy the game because 90% of the modes are stale.
The game started out very good. I was getting great hit variety, the tag system was good, the game was, despite the flaws, playing pretty well.
Then, the imbalance issues for online. So a little gets patched away. Then that opens the door for another imbalance. So a bit more gets patched away. Then 14 patches later you're playing MLB 17. I didn't pay $60 to let online exploitations chip away at a functional game that worked well in the hands of everyone but an insecure online player.
The problem isn't so much that they design the game a certain way, it's because the sim isn't good enough to be exploit free, the online players find the glitches and exploit them. Then, because you are dealing with an old engine that is way less robust than it should be, AND because of time constraints, instead of, say, fixing the bunt glitch by just making accurate jump times and smarter AI, that isn't possible so the fix is rocket bunts.
This is a problem because online drives everything. And I get it, that's where the money is. But despite what they may say and even want, continuing to call this a good simulation becomes less accurate every year if online drives the bus. Because the game becomes more arcade as the band aids roll in.
I feel for the SCEA guys, because I think their hearts lie in offline. But their jobs lie in DD. And with each passing year it becomes clearer to me that that's a gap too wide for even the great uniter of the game of baseball to fix.

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
I'm on the side of franchise mode and less on DD. I see everyone saying you should just make a $60 franchise game....if I not playing online which the servers have been questionable....why not buy MLB14-17 and just play offline?
I still enjoy playing 14 and 15 in my offline franchise modes. Yes it's cool to have the current rosters but if you play an offline franchise for more than 2-3 seasons the rosters aren't going to be up to date and current as they are in the real world anyways so there goes the need for online current rosters.
I enjoy playing a good game of baseball and found that the older versions didn't have as many bugs and can be bought for a fraction of the price of new with bugs.Comment

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
I would almost guarantee it doesn’t lol. They know DD and RTTS are the most played by far. I’m an offline franchise player and would love that. But there’s no way in hell.Comment

The discussion was game being developed on two discs, one offline and one online. GTA 5, to my knowledge, didn’t release a physical copy of GTA 5 online when it first launched, it was DLC.
The physical copy came out 4 years later, but it’s not just online, it has the offline game as well.

Yes, GTA online was always accessible from the physical single player disc that came out on launch, if you had an online connection once the servers were opened. You just had to press X or whatever during the initial load into story mode. The two discs GTA had for the 360/PS3 weren’t two separate modes. The first disc was an installation disc, and the second was the play disc. I don’t recall ever seeing a 2 disc format for this generation of consoles, and a couple quick Google searches doesn’t bring up anything about a second physical disc specifically for GTA online.Last edited by GoDucks1224; 10-16-2018, 09:05 PM. Originally posted by CaulfieldI much agree with this, so I'm wondering...
if the future of video games is to move away from physical copies and it to be all downloads (and I'm not saying thats going to happen, nor do I want it to) maybe thats the way sports video gamemakers can inexpensively make 2 (or multiple versions) . Sorta how people now are cutting the cord on tradiotional tv viewing and just watching what they want without having to surf or wade through the garbage they dont
Ooh I like that idea. The future of gaming will be interesting, for sure. I can’t recall the last time I bought a physical disc, honestly. 2015 maybe? It’s been quite a while. Crazy how things change.Comment

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
I can't remember the last time I did not buy (or have bought for me when I was a kid) a new baseball game, but I did not buy the Show 18. I'm a franchise player, and the fact that it's been left virtually untouched for some years now just made me say screw it. I love baseball, and I used to love this series. I'm not going to support a game that doesn't want me as a customer though. They'll have to throw franchise players more than a bone next year for me to consider buying which sucks because I really missed having an actual baseball game to play this year.Comment

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
I will say tho that after deleting the game and patches and then reinstalling them, the game plays much better. I've played 2 franchise games after reinstalling it and have not had any defensive animation or any kinda blunders. I recommend trying it if u r experiencing issues with defense of anything else.Comment

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
Originally posted by Caulfieldat the very least I would have kept 16 or 17 to play this past year. If I would have had to, I think I could have kept playing one of them for a couple or even 3 years. I definitely wouldnt have been able to not play during the summer. Thankfully, even at a full price of $65 still works out to only a little over a dollar a week to play. A bargain in my book, esp. considering baseballis my favorite game. I just always make sure I set aside a dollar every week so its no big deal each March. I still pop in Show 14 from time to time and I probably could have played that all summer if needed lolComment

Re: MLB the show 19 or BUST
I’d take a look at Pro Yakyuu Spirits too. It’s not an MLB experience (NPB, obviously), but it is a fantastic baseball experience if you need to scratch that itch. I love The Show, but PYS honestly has the best gameplay I’ve ever played bar none. And I’ve been playing The Show since 2008. Played MVP Baseball before that. You’d have to use a translation site though, as it’s only in Japanese. (spiritstranslation is the best one) The latest addition was 2015, but Konami have announced it is returning this upcoming season.Comment

People can say what they want about Konami, but those guys can make some darn good gameplay.
