Re: MLB The Show 19 Cover Athlete is Bryce Harper - Release Date March 26, 2019

This is the first year I am not preordering. Franchise mode has been the same for the past 4 or 5 years.

I can get my gameplay fix through 18. Im probably going to wait until release and see what changes, if any are made. May even wait until a price drop.

I do have faith. I mean, for me the history of this series has been that it has delivered a game that I play year round, '17 being the only exception in the, what, 10+ years I've been buying it.

If for some reason they release information and I'm not excited and don't want the game, then I cancel my pre-order, get my money back and go about my merry way.

      I pre-ordered for two reasons:

      1) I love the game and I love the series. Outside of '17 I've played every iteration of this series. And as I've stated previously, '17 wasn't a bad game, just out of the box the new ball physics felt unbalanced and I decided to go back to '16 and enjoy that game for the year.

      2) I want the Gone Yard Edition and since its a special edition, I didn't want to wait for information and possibly miss out on getting it pre-ordered and getting that version.

If I get '19 and it turns out to be a bust, then I'll put it on the shelf and go back to playing '18, much like I did with '17 and '16. The only difference is that I will have a hat.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Not really trying to be bashing of the game or devs, I am just more careful with my gaming dollar lately and if I like a game and have not lost interest I just don't see the need to "upgrade" every year for $60
Heck, if I had to, I think I could go back and still play Show 14 or 15 for 2 or 3 more years. That said, I'm pretty sure 19 will be a day one get for me.

Yeah '16 was my personal favorite, I have almost gone back to it a few times and just said this is where I am staying for a bit.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the cover? I wish they would put whatever money to pay the cover athlete in to paying more devs. But I suppose there is a market for the cover athlete too.

Yeah, I also wonder who buys a game because of the cover athlete. I know I don't care who is on the cover. It's what's on the disc that counts to me!

The game is almost exclusively digital here in the UK, so I'll never even see the cover tbh. I guess I'll see Harper during the opening loading screen? I honestly cannot recall seeing Judge at any point this year, but he was probably there.

It's an irrelevance tbh, mainly because they make it an irrelevance by not incorporating the cover athlete in any way into the game, except when it was Griffey. (even then, only into DD)

I won't be preordering this year as I frankly don't trust SDS at this point. I love the series, but they go back on so many things that they say pre-release and hide other things, that I honestly can't take them on their word.

I'll wait and see what people say when the game has been released, make sure they haven't mysteriously removed things without telling anyone and then probably pick it up if it sounds worth it. I'll miss out on the generally a bit rubbish pre-order bonuses, but that's a price I'm more than willing to pay for a better view of what game I'd actually be getting.

That being said, if they announce meaningful changes to Franchise mode, then I will throw money at them, no questions asked

I agree they seem to be putting more resources in to DD, which I have never played and never will, than on Franchise. That said, MLBTS 18 is their best work ever. I only use digital copy too. I have digital copies going back to 15. I just played a few minutes of each year this am and each year has been a major upgrade graphically from the previous. I have zero doubt I will get 19 but I would really like to see some progress particularly with Franchise mode and in game stats ...and, as you said, don't remove anything. I remember Ramone saying a few years ago that SDS NEVER removes things from the game. Well...

A reddit poster is stating he signed with the Dodgers. Same poster also said Bour signed with the Angels 10 hours before it was announced.

Curse of the Show cover, not a good sign for Aaron Judge's future. lol

2006 David Ortiz Red Sox - no longer with team
2007 David Wright Mets - no longer with team
2008 Ryan Howard Phillies - no longer with team
2009 Dustin Pedroia Red Sox - played 3 games for Boston this year, maybe he'll rebound in '19
2010-2011 Joe Mauer Twins - no longer with team
2012 Adrian Gonzalez Red Sox - no longer with team
2013 Andrew McCutchen Pirates - no longer with team
2014 Miguel Cabrera Tigers - finally we have an anomaly lol still, only 38 games in 2018
2015 Yasiel Puig Dodgers- no longer with team
2016 Josh Donaldson Blue Jays - no longer with team
2017 Ken Griffey Jr. Mariners - obviously, no longer with team lol
2018 Aaron Judge Yankees - gotta figure his days in pinstripes are numbered.
2019 Bryce Harper ? - if he gets that long term deal he wants, maybe Judge and he can turn this trend around.

2020 Mike Trout Angels - and I predict Trout will recycle that trend by being on the MLB 20 cover, then traded by that summer.

Is it much of a curse if most of these guys retired with their respective teams or were traded YEARS later?

Also, I'm starting to think we just might see Washington's uni on the cover. Ya know, a few years ago when the Marlins gave Giancarlo his big contract, SDS tweaked contracts to reflect that. If Bryce doesnt sign in time, but does sign for some stupid money, like Philly stupid 40$ a year, do you anyone think SDS already changrd and made contract go that high, just in case?
