Any one else sick of the fielding in RTTS?

Is it just me, or is the fielding aspect of RTTS just absolutely frustrating and terrible? It plays like it was put together in an hour. I'm usually always a third basemen, so maybe other positions work better, but over half the time it has me fielding, the ball doesn't even come to me. It will be a line drive way over my head or sometimes so far to the left that the shortstop fields it and makes the play. Pop ups are IMPOSSIBLE unless you have the ugly spot indicator on.
Also, the way the camera totally spins around and you can't see the play after you've thrown the ball. It's a joke. I find myself turning all fielding opportunities off after a while, which it shouldn't have to come to.

I just think we deserve better in this area after almost no change in so many years.

    Any one else?

I haven't experienced much of that. First, I'd say 1/10th of plays end up not going to me, which I don't really mind. Second, of course you'd need the spot indicator - you shouldn't be able to track a popup using a third person camera. The camera can go wonky at times, but it's much improved compared to previous years.

second and shortstop are the premier fielding positions. they have probably developed that more so than any other position. the one great improvement though was for outfield and fixing the fielding camera for that, so outfield is not as terrible as it use to be.

If player lock or RTTS fielding at all positions is not addressed in 19. I personally just cannot give this game a pass.

I think in order for fielding to work properly again another missing fundamental from 14 until now. Is that the CPU (Players) have no idea where you are in relation to the other players on the field.

The fielding sequences are based on a timer and maybe that is the way the game has been meant to play all along and maybe thats why the issues with fielding in Player Lock or RTTS regardless of position has never been addressed.

Have you ever had multiple errors and find the CPU does not know the next move to make? Well thats because there is no logic to address those issues. This is incredibly visible if you play the game on game watch!

I found a video from MLB 15 of myself playing Short Stop and the ball was hit to first the CPU first basemen wanted to turn the double play. While I was breaking to cover the bag of second base the CPU first basemen threw the ball to me and I was not even at the second base bag yet. This describes the lack of programming above.

The sad part is that it still happens in MLB 18 :/ one of many fundamentals missing which is why I cannot give this game a pass. It may look pretty but what ever is programmed under the hood defensively. Needs to be redone as RTTS is one of the games most popular modes.

But then again turn on youtube and the majority of RTTS players want to hit homeruns and not really play defense.

This is why there is only one tagging animation and user controlled position players cant make a tag. Ever see a close play at third or second and the CPU will not attempt a tag but kick into a animation to throw back to the pitcher. Or the runner jogging into second while the play is still going on? Yup fundamentals missing from programming. No slider set or skill level will help you!

This is a issue with fundamental programming or lack of knowledge on how defense works in Baseball. Its definitely more than throwing animations.

Baseball is a dynamic sport, Plays in baseball are not timed or set to a timer. This is why the defensive system needs to be completly redone.

Re: Any one else sick of the fielding in RTTS?

For sure there are negative issues with RTTS defensive play. Example one of my RTTS players primary position is 2B and the 1B (or pitcher) will never throw to me when I am covering 1st base on sacrifice bunts. I have seen on more than one occasion the base runner make it to 1B safely while there I am standing on the bag waiting for the toss from the 1B (or pitcher) that will never be thrown because the game still has not been coded to handle all bunt scenarios. So yes we are still not where we would want to be with RTTS defense. But I don't think it is as bad as some make it out to be.

Oh and you can tag base stealers out at 2B from throws from the catcher. But for this to happen, the 2B or SS need to be standing on the bag before the catcher will thrown the ball, and the only way to ensure this happens is you need to position your player closer to 2B prior to the steal attempt which also means you are giving up some field positioning. So if I see a base runner on 1B that is a treat to steal, I will either need to move my player closer to 2B prior to the pitch or just completely surrender all base stealing attempts to my opponents. This is another aspect of the game that should be improved.
