    The best Show for AI

I know the Show is known for its authentic gameplay, but is there a particular one this generation or even one from the PS3 where the computer decisions were the most realistic? Nothing frustrates more in a baseball game than stupid AI. I don't expect it to be great, but does one Show stick out that has better management more than another.

I know this is going to sound like an easy out answer, but honestly for me, '18 is the best that I've played in terms of the AI. From on the field play to roster management, I think that '18 is easily the best of the series.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but there are far fewer "boneheaded" decisions in '18 by the AI than any previous year.

If you enjoy the hitting part, 16 had it together a lot better than they do now.

Completely correct. The AI decision making needs constant improvement and 18 is the best in the series so far but yes, very far from what we would see as real coaching/management decisions. Pinch hitter logic and bullpen logic need to be improved. The burning of a pinch hitter isn't even in the game vs CPU and a lot of roster management decisions are still questionable but that has been the case as long as I have played The Show.
BFR's future is still TBD, stay tuned for updates

Do you think we expect too much to have very smart AI in this day and age? Baseball is the hardest sport to replicate. For the most part SDS has done an outstanding job in that regard. I don't play the 2K basketball series, nor the NHL and FIFA. I do play Madden every year and it has similar issues. Maybe the hardware and technology isn't to a point yet where computer management can duplicate human decisions to realistic levels.

Re: The best Show for AI

I don't think it's fair to state that we expect too much, but I also don't think its fair to expect the system to ever be flawless/perfect, because everyone will have their own opinion as to what would be a right or wrong decision.

And I think we're currently closer to the positive/right side than we are the negative/wrong side. As someone who gets a couple of seasons into franchise mode with each installment, I think some of the head scratching decisions that the CPU makes in regards to roster management actually "make sense" as things play out.

I also think we're going to continue to see questionable roster management by the AI until a few things are fixed...most notably expanding the rosters. Until that is done, I think we're going to continue to see the AI struggle to balance of roster full of stars, role players, depth, and prospects. Hell I do myself.

In terms of AI on the field, until we see managers become humans and not name only, then I think you're going to have these questionable moments, because we will base everything off of either a) what we believe is the right thing to do, or b) what that manager's tendencies are in real life.

So no I don't think its wrong to expect the AI to be better and/or "perfect" in terms of "realistic" decisions, but in the end the only true "realistic" decisions that can be made by the AI are ones that actually happened in real life. Anything outside of that will always be up for debate (much like real life decisions are)

              Another lousy .02

What cb, bacon & forme said,
                18. But I was lucky enough in other years to get my sliders to match my skills, so I cant complain too much about other years.

I definitely think we probably expect too much, but so long as we're not obnoxious about it, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I like to think SDS enjoys the challenge of serving a finicky lot lol
