Does anyone have tips for rebuilding a team and playing multilpe years into franchise mode?

I have only made to the end of season two in the past. I am going to attempt and rebuild the Mariners and play every game. I am aware of the need to rename players that do not carryover. Are there any major issues or glitches that will I may experience that I should be aware of?

Some people have had issues with free agents and money. My biggest issue is that I love doing a rebuild and the realism of a 30 team control but get bogged down in the details (plus the constant roster update necessary in the off season). Good luck

I've never actually done a rebuild in The Show in all the years I have played the series. Been thinking about taking one on and see how it is. White Sox have crossed my mind as a team to use. Still in a rebuild stage but not far away. Also a team I don't encounter much since I play mainly as the Phillies.

I think the first thing you have to do is determine who or what you want to build around. Are there certain players, young players, on your roster that you want to keep and build around. Then I think you have to determine what you aspect of the game you want to build around. Hitting, pitching, defense, or speed. If its hitting, then you determine do you want average or do you want power? Pitching, will it be starting or bullpen that you decide to be the backbone of your team?

I think that is where you need to start. Then you can fill in the pieces from there.

If you are planning on playing the games yourself, then I'd definitely recommend retaining/getting at least a couple of hitters who are fun to use, rather than a complete tear down, otherwise it can get very dull.

Pitching wise is less important as frankly everyone pitches largely the same, just with differing success, but a team full of guys who can't hit a homer gets boring very quickly I find.

Given how overpowered the draft is, I'd generally recommend trading for quality rather than quantity of prospects, as those average prospects will soon just get in the way, particularly as after the first season the computer inexplicably doesn't sign a bunch of it's quality draft picks so you can really flesh out your prospects if you want

I like speed guys. Doing the little things like stealing bases, hit and run, squeeze. Yep. That's my kind of game. That and flexibility so you can pinch hit and pinch run and all that other good stuff too.

My tip would be to keep 2 or 3 spots open on the 40 man roster. You can get some good players from the rule 5 draft and if you decide not to keep them on the MLB roster you can trade them.

Not sure what you mean by players who don't carry over.

Players who do not appear in the majors in the previous season are usually not on the roster for the new game so they turn into generic faces while still possessing the same attributes and equipment.

An example is like when David Ortiz and his player would be renamed to something generic with a game created face.

see i did this strategy with my Athletics franchise. because i tend to use the ballpark in my research for players as well. since O.Co is more a pitchers park, i tend to look for guys who can hit with speed. obviously try to find a few bombers to get those rubis but speed is key IMO here.

This is pretty key. My requirements for a rebuild are usually:
1. How far away are they?
- I like to have full control of the rebuild and build the team up with my own draft picks and trades. I tend to trade my current players for young guys and anticipate a 5 year plan.

2. How fun is the stadium?
- If I'm going to play with a team for several years I want to enjoy my home games.

I tend to build through pitching. I draft a Blue Chip starter or closer and trade for bullpen help. You can get good RP late in the draft as well. I also usually only get 1 Blue Chip prospect that is a hitter every 5 years so I wait for the right one. I had an A's franchise that was made up of all drafted or 20 year old or younger traded for players and that was fun. Only 1 of my hitters was a Blue Chip hitter. I won the title in year 5.

I am Using the Opening Day OSFM Rosters and have edited the contracts to be accurate and tweaked some of the players potential

I'd probably keep Cano & move him to DH, then see what kind of prospects I could finagle in exchange for Cruz. But dumping both for prospects is also a great option.
