Skipped last year after they took out online franchise, the only mode I really played consistently. See no reason to go back this year. They aren't even pretending that DD isn't their primary focus, as bad as EA.

When it comes to sports games these days, I try to buy them only every other year and not yearly so that there's even a little bit of a sense of novelty.

Last year, I bought 18 even though I had bought 17 the previous year. 18 was getting too much praise for me to ignore it. I suppose it's a similar scenario this year.

I always trade in the previous itteration for the current. This year though I will hold on to 18. I will get 19 as of this moment, but I am perfectly content with 18 that if something changes my mind, I can just continue with 18 as long as I need.

18 is the first iteration that I can honestly say I would go back and play regardless if I love 19. And yes....I decided to get 19. The gameplay improvements alone look phenomenal. And I very well may dabble in RTTS a lot more than I have in the past as it looks a lot more immersive this cycle. But that remains to be seen.

Of course we all want to see where Franchise is headed this season for 19 and if they did anything other than the in-season contract extensions. Fingers crossed.

Presentation is also a big thing...and I found 18's to be the best the series has had thus far. Being that I play every inning of every game in a couple of my franchises I have been able to experience all the little things and dynamic storylines they added. I hope they built upon this big time. Also SOTS is a big thing and last cycle they added the three different themes to SOTS and being able to customize the different broadcasts. That was huge. Being able to have an MLB Network broadcast, a regional broadcast (Theme 1) and a being at the ballpark with "authentic at the ballpark" between inning music broadcast (Theme 2) is awesome. I hope they added back some additional file space for us SOTS junkies as well.

My uncle Bill and I played MLB The Show every year. Unfortunately, He passed away early January.

He loved the commentary. He laughed like a little boy when he heard them say the sarcastic lines. (Laughed out loud every time - like it I was the first time he heard it.) He would ask me to pause the game and have us watch the silly cutscenes.

Mostly, I remember how much he looked forward to playing against me and rubbing it in when he won. He loved the game! “It’s so incredible, I never would have imagined how realistic baseball videogames would get.”

This year I’m going to buy two copies and I plan to donate a copy in his name. So, NO, I will not skip this year.

For me, March 7th is the make or break day. If I am “meh” with what I see/hear, I will keep rocking 18 until there is a 50% price drop on 19.

For me the deal-breaker would be if the hitting engine is garbage again like it has been for the past 2 years. Nothing makes me put down a game faster than when I'm consistently getting penalized for playing it correctly. No amount of sliders ever fixed it and it had me at times wondering if all the conspiracy theorists were right and the whole game was scripted. MLB 18 was definitely the worst game in the series I've ever played in regards to having a skill gap and rewarding good play, hopefully 19 is different. I like that they addressed this flaw in developer streams by saying they're making changes, but I'll reserve my excitement until I see that put into practice.

That's one thing I am doing for sure this year. Watching more games then playing. Last year I chose to try to get games in instead of watching games.
