Can you actually rebuild in the show?

I’m a tigers fan and we’ll if you know baseball we are in the beginning stages of a long rebuild. I want to take the tigers and rebuild them but the question is can I actually do it.

What I mean is drafting players and developing them in the minors for a few years and then bring them up and have a decent team at the end of it (prospects you’ve raised and then adding in FA talent where needed to round out the team) Do prospects actually turn out to be something or is this a waste of time to invest in.

Prospects will develop in the game. My starting left fielder is a guy I drafted that 3 years later is rated 80 with now an A potential. He started with a B potential and rated upper 60’s.

It takes time and patience. Just like IRL. If you want to rebuild via the farm system.

But you can rebuild with a combination of farm, trades and free agency. Up to you.

You can definitely rebuild. As has been said it just takes time. My starting catcher, 2B and CF'er are all drafted players. They are rated 82 or better. Also have 2 starters I drafted that have OVR's over 80.
I'm in year 8 of my franchise and all 5 of them were drafted in the first 4 years.

Thanks guys for the response. I think I’m going to try it out. We’ve got a few starting pitcher prospects that are good, so it really comes down to getting positional players.

There's definitely a good chance of getting fired if your team doesn't start winning to some extent within three years, though.

One thing I wish they would add is situational contracts. Everything is three years by default, but it would be cool if you could receive offers for, say, 5 years from a rebuilding club or 2 from a contender. Alternatively, if you're really successfully, you might get lengthy extension offers from your current team. (Would also be nice if you could consider leaving a contract early.)

Re: Can you actually rebuild in the show?

Yes you can. I have always wanted to try a rebuild in The Show and this was the year that I decided to give it a try. Especially with Carry Over saves, I felt that it was finally the time to try this. Plus I really love 18 and if I stick with it, will be completely happy to play this for years.

Back on topic. I started a Padres franchise and decided to build primarily thru the farm system for a long haul, big picture type of rebuild. I have been playing most of my minor league games as well and really enjoy watching players grow. So I am in my 3rd year and finishing up May. I am not really a contender or even really a spoiler for anybody yet. But the bigger teams can no longer take me for granted. Last year I finished 3 games over .500.

Next year if my Minors keep progressing well and I can find some more wins, I could start being a headache for the bigger clubs. I have kept my payroll down below 100 million. Right now I am around 80 Million. If that big player develops I have the money to lock them down and can really build a Dynasty. Which is my game plan.

I honestly have never had as much fun with this game as I have had this year. Playing this way and with this team has really made a world of difference for me. The investment I feel and the Love I have for these fictional sprites is just amazing.

A feature I would love is having the option to start a franchise right after World Series so you can go through all the offseason and start a real rebuild right away.

Would love to see this. NBA2K and Madden both have their own versions of this feature now, it’s time to bring the start today feature to the Show. If that feature was in the game so we could have stats and everything from last season correct I would consider starting a franchise because of the carryover feature.

Not worth simming a year and having everything wrong when the new game will be out in March. It’s only January 10th but the release will be here before you know it. Might as well wait. Would also like the option to skip the resigning period when that time of the year arrives irl and for it to let us start out in free agency with the real life free agent class.

Re: Can you actually rebuild in the show?

I started my Orioles franchise that I will be carrying over to next year's.

In spring training I traded away Adam Jones, Zach Britton, Mychal Givens, Richard Bleier, Brad Brach, Darren O'Day and did real life Manny Machado trade. Trading in ST allows the new teams to offer qualifying offers to recoup a draft pick if wanted.

I just hit the all star break. I'm 31-67. Lawd it's been a rough go around but I'm having so much fun.

My double A team is stacked. One of my main trade assest i acquired got injured for 6 months. I just traded Mark Trubo at beginning of July to Rockies, he's going on a tear for them as new 1B, the prospect I got back got injured for 6 months. So he's done for season.

My rebuild is perfect for how I want it. The Show 19 since I don't have to wait around for rosters I'm cheesing for my Year 3 season. It's gonna be tons of fun!

The worst part is the 90 man rosters. Gotta do some tinkering with my Triple A roster here and there when I get injuries. I have to hold off trading Trey Mancini, Dylan Bundy until the off-season to get more value for them. As of now all I can do is 1 for 1 trade!

I've done pretty well rebuilding the Tigers. I've also done a few franchises where I deliberately turned them into the Padres, with perpetual rebuild-teardowns just for the hell of it.

Answer is YES!!! I'm a huge Tigers fan, rebuilt then Tigers from strictly drafting, rule 5 players with high potential, and lots of trades.

Took me 5 season to have a winning season, year 7 won the world series, and I've won 3 of the last 4 world Series. I don't play the games when in franchise, I try to act like a real life GM. I'll manage games, occasionally I'll do a player lock on a player. But I try to act like a GM.

Best option is to draft and trade for current MLB ready players. The way the reworked the draft makes it too much guesswork and with only 6 or 7 draft picks a year you can't rely on the draft to build.

Another factor is progress/regression. For example pitcher stamina always declines - never increases. You draft a starting pitcher at age 20 - you can't tell from scouting him exactly what his stamina is until after you draft him. By the team he reaches MLB in 4 or 5 years his stamina has declined to the point where he is a middle reliever.

                          Draft and trade.

Re: Can you actually rebuild in the show?

Usually, I use the Reds each year since '08 and the few years when they were good were the only time I've ever not done a rebuild.

I used the Tigers a few times. They are fun because the stadium is cool, they have a roster with legit decisions to be made as a GM and enough good prospects to make you not lose your mind and few enough to where you actually have to done some maneuvers to build them up.

My biggest issue with my Franchises is that:
                            - during the season the roster updates make me want to start over after I've invested way too much time into it.

                            - I get bored and want to start over

                            - I build up my Farm System too well and have to hold down top prospects.

However, I've started to adjust my MO. In my most recent successful rebuild I took over the Marlins in '17, carried them over to '18 and won the World Series. I got a lot of help at the deadline a few years in a row by dealing my stacked farm system players for a stud on a bad team at a position I need. I play with 30 team control and force trades and make sure to be fair to all the teams.

It was only my second ever title, one with the A's in 2024 of the Show 16.
In both cases I quit after winning the title because I was set for years to come. I was ready to take over a bad team again. I'm more into the rebuild than I am the continuous winning.

It's like the real game - some thrive, some investment will be "wasted" as they wash out.

I will say, at least for me, the prospect development is much more reliable than real baseball so rebuilding your organization should be well within reach with a little good favor with the draft classes and how they fall to you.

I rebuilt the Marlins in 2014 - they are still thriving and doing well and I'm in the 2030's.

There's a few "red flags" to watch for when evaluating prospects. I won't go into them here, but long story short, yes, you can rebuild and do it well and keep it together over the long term if you keep an eye on things in your organization.

                              Good luck with your Tigers
