Where in the world are the San Diego Padres?

The following was posted on MLB The Show’s Facebook page

    Subtle leak? Something? Nothing?

    Let the speculation begin!

Looks like they've added new stadiums. That would be my speculation. I'm guessing perhaps international stadia based on the "world" part. The ring around the pitching mound doesn't ring a bell though.

Look's like Sportsman's Park to me.

It's a trick question: there are no Padres in San Diego.

Looked online and in MLB 10 there was. Doesn't look like it so much in real photos.

                  Then again I sit corrected.

And the baseball graphic on the upper deck is there too in other images.

                  I'll take Sportsman's Park for 50 Alex.

It's definitely Sportsman's - that baseball graphic on the outfield covering is identical to '18.

So they're not showing a new stadium, but an old one in a new context.

Is it a new context? 'Cuz I can have the Padres play a team in Sportsman's Park now.

And how 'bout sharin' some of that popcorn. Making me hungry over here!

The context is "why are these two things worth advertising together" since, as you said, you can already do them in '18 and previous years (and it's well known that you can).

I have a feeling there will by plenty of popcorn to go around while we wait for the game's release.

A shift! I wonder if that is a Browns home game with Ted Williams at the plate. I think teams used to employ the shift for Ted.

I used to live in St Louis and frequented this area. The large church in the background still stands but is vacant and in disrepair. Now a high crime/low income neighborhood.

you know, I know everyone refers to the extreme infield shift but when I was growing up every time a lefty got up we yelled "Lefty! Shift!" and the second baseman moved deep in that hole, the shortstop would move within breathing distance of second and the third baseman would be way off the line. The OF would move all to their left. It really isn't a new concept. The difference I think is that since no one knows how to bunt any more or slap the ball 'where they ain't' you now can play the third baseman at almost the normal shortstop position and have 3 infielders on the right side. It is just an extreme of what we did when I was a kid. Now if MLBers would employ the rocket bunt down third, teams won't shift as extreme as they do now.

Not to hijack the thread but that reminds me of a story. I used to know a guy from St Louis who everybody called Lefty - probably around 90 years old now if he is still living. I never realized he was right handed until one day I saw him playing pool right handed and asked him about it. He said as a kid he had trouble hitting and his Dad told to try hitting left handed. Every time he came to bat the kids would shout "lefty".

The only thing he did left handed was hit a baseball but for the rest of his life he was called Lefty.
