    Two way players

Do you guys think this will be incorporated into the game in 19? With Ohtani already having been one of those guys in 2018, and reports that teams are possibly going to use players like Matt Davidson and Kaleb Cowart on the bench and as relievers, it would make sense to somehow make that an option in the game.

    Re: Two way players

If they could do it easily, then why not? If it takes a lot of work, then probably there are more important things to sort first. After all, it's not really a thing yet.

ohtani gave it a go for a couple of months, but he's crocked now so won't do it this year. People thought that Padres catcher would do it, but it turned out he was terrible at pitching, hitting and catching. Position players who fancy themselves as better than average junk pitchers have been around a while, but again never really played a significant role in baseball other than being the go to guy in blowouts. Brendan McKay is in the minors and highly rated, but has a long way to go to prove he can do it, or that it's worth him doing it.

Definitely something to keep an eye on though, as teams are always looking for more versatility, but until we actually see it used significantly, then it probably is more gimmicky than genuinely important. (although it would obviously be cool for RTTS)

I have a feeling that they're working very hard on making this happen and neglecting the games' issues?

Totally disagree here. This just isn't happening enough, nor is it even beneficial. People want to be able to have this so they can bring in somebody in a blow out? More important issues.

          Was being completely facetious.

I’ll be surprised if it’s not in there given Ohtani had a huge rookie year. Had he flamed out, maybe it goes unnoticed.

R.B.I Baseball 19 has two-way players. The show needs to step up.

Yes it would be great for this to be incorporated properly.

It does seem like this is happening more recently. Im not sure if it is just a fad or guys trying to maximize their values as a team, but I would love this feature as well.

Jared Walsh of the Angels is in camp as a two-way player. Have we heard any indication from SDS about us being able to implement two-way players this year?

See - my thinking with this:

I see and understand the points you raise, and, as of now I couldn't disagree on an objective level except perhaps Ohtani if he can get his pitching side back.

But what about in the out years?

For example, I'm in 2032 in my Marlins franchise. In the 13 years between then and now (and 19 if you count when this franchise started), no one has even attempted it?

Even in your own post, you note guys who tried it and the experiments failed. However, no one in The Show can even try it. OOTP, they can (sometimes the managers/players doing it on their own in the minors) and maybe one surprises (had one that came up with the Rockies who was a second Ohtani) but most do flame out or become "one-sided".

But the point is, they can try, just like IRL they can try and are trying.

Also, baseball can be slow to change. There would be a time the constant extreme shifting would be "gimmicky". The five-man rotation (and now six-man?), the "reliever-starter", everything looks like a gimmick when it first starts.

I think franchises should be allowed to pursue such storylines, especially the further you get "from the real years and near future".

I believe game should not make judgements on what is or is not possible. They should replicate the difficulties and challenges of things like two-way players...but if one beats the odds, lands on the right club with the right opportunity...

                        ...Just like real life, imo.

                          Re: Two way players

MLB has now officially outlined what is needed to be considered a two-way player. (20 innings pitched and 20 games as a position player with at least 3 ABs). The Angels have 5 players they consider two-way players. We are less than two weeks from release date. Do we know anything new on this topic?

Ohtani is in as a two way player. Not sure if others.

You will not be able to create two way players this year.
