I think the game looks great. The uniforms and animations could use some work, but I think the field and stadium graphics are above average.

LOL what? The field is bog standard and in some lights looks like absolute trash with colors that are so pale you would think they have no idea what they are doing or their lighting engine is from the PS3.

While the vid looked okay, almost nothing looks to have been done.

That said, the player models don't do it for me--there's something blocky and stationary about them that I can't quite explain. You don't really get a sense of difference between the players unless it's something like Bartolo Colon standing next to a UTIL infielder. The lack of cloth/uniform motion is also an annoyance. Also, all players being the same size/height in cut scenes is a bit strange (think Jose Altuve standing eye to eye with Justin Verlander).

Otherwise, the grass and dirt could always use some work...

Exactly how did you come to the conclusion you posted here? The lighting and grass especially looks old and outdated. You mention color, and then here we have the same damn screenshots of fields that look like they are white green and show absolutely 100% NONE of the actual color of a great field in real life.

Try going to a game in real life once, it doesn't sound like you make it out to them. This game's colors are bog standard trash in some parks.

No offense really because I don't care, and I am not being mean. It's just the truth. But people have been posting shots of actual fields and doing color comparisons for years now. None of that is in the game. In fact, this team is incompetent when it comes to field colors if you ask me. That or their engine is horrible. A mix of the two really. Their lighting is pretty standard stuff if you ask me.

All of these things have gotten slightly better for sure, and I think that deserves mention, but movement on this one has been far too slow with the tech on PS4.

No need to get upset or anything. I don't see how accusing me of not going to games helps prove your point--if anything it makes it seem more like an appeal to authority rather than a point worth actually considering.

I stand by my original post and anyone who has been paying attention over the past ~3 years has seen improvements in lighting, colors, textures, etc. The jerseys have gotten better etc. Nobody is saying it's photorealistic or perfect, but the look of the game has been improving.

Alright, relax, man, because I can tell you don't actually know what goes into lighting in a graphics engine. It doesn't look THAT bad.

If you're hung up that much about the grass, I don't even know how you play the game.

I'm not a coder no, but yes I do know what goes into lighting engines outside of actual coding. I have a great PC as well, and have been playing games for nearly 30 years. I definitely pay attention to tech. I didn't mean to say the lighting is abysmal or anything, but skies and stuff like that to me is just not really at a point where I thought it would be 5 years ago.

And the lighting, textures, shaders, et cetera on that grass--and even some dirt--is beyond horrible. I honestly have no idea what they are thinking with the grass anymore. I can't even pinpoint what is wrong. It's all wrong. And like others have said the field colors are important, it's what I am watching at a game. It's a bunch of tiny players on a big field you know if you don't have close tickets.

I get that the PS4 might not be enough, but their color choices are so wrong it hurts. Same old screenshots. Grass and horrible salient black shading on grass to mimic the cuts in real life. It looks so sloppy and amateurish I don't know what to say. I only say that because it is 2019 now. I thought this was going to be fixed in 2016 lol. It's three plus years later and the field colors still look mostly the same.

I guess I have expectations when you are a Sony team.

The challenging part of colors for objects is when they're seen in a graphics engine. I mean, I can choose red, just red to color a cube in a modeling program, then put that cube in my graphics engine and it appears pinkish because of ambient lighting, hemisphere lighting, etc.

If I change my ambient lighting to accommodate the cube, then it would make other objects look wrong. It's complicated, but they have shader developers more capable than I am to get the proper results

A GLSL shader determines a color for each pixel on an object's surface.

I'm not saying their grass doesn't need to be more vibrant. It does. I don't know why they can't achieve that, but their entire shader system seems to mute all the colors in the game if you think about it. It seems to be their choice to have it like that.

                Re: The Graphics

I think the camera and depth of view could fix a lot for the graphics in the show. When comparing screenshots of the show to an actual game on TV, (behind the pitcher camera) there is a huge difference. In real life players look taller and more group together at the plate on TV than what they do in the show, everyone looks stumpy and spaced out. I really don't know how SDS can look at the two and say that it looks about right (especially for their broadcast specific cameras), the ratios look way off from each other. The Show looks extremely wide far away angled, while real life broadcasts seems to be less wide and more on the tall and up close angle.

                  Re: The Graphics

I've never understood graphics complaints... or can't relate to them.. possibly because I came from the 16 and 32-bit generation.

I suppose I would understand if my teams jersey was the wrong color, or if they left out a specific skin tone.

All I really care about is smooth and realistic animations, and I think we have that.

If all they did was focus on gameplay additions year in and year that would be fine with me.

Skating animations that play and look awkward (and take control away from the player).

body shape and uniforms that don't look or move like fabric.

Yea, that's one aspect of the graphics. There's two being discussed here.

One is based around the appearance of colors and such. The other is based around animation, geometry, etc.

Your setup will only improve the appearance of colors and such.

For me, it's not graphics in the classical sense of the word, but more the models and animations. The models are ancient looking (cloth physics should have happened years ago) and they just don't look right. The transitions to animations are just stiff.

Where I get irked is that this was all promised in the "wait for the ps4" stuff I heard. Well, it's here and capable of much more and yet the models still look mostly the same with some sharpened edges. Not at all current gen.
