1. No Online Franchise Mode - If you play this mode, there is nothing I can say to make you feel better that for the second year in a row they aren't featuring this mode. While I don't play it, it is extremely disappointing they didn't get this back in. I understand this will cost them some pre-orders. I'm curious to see in the comments just how many. As I said, it isn't a mode I care about but I'm always concerned when they remove items. And yes, I know this was removed last year but folks were sold on the idea it would be back this year. I don't believe they ever said for sure it would be but it seemed to be implied to fans of the mode.
2. Lack of attention or anything truly new to Franchise mode. With the announcement that Online Franchise would not return several are doubling down the the fact Franchise mode will once again be largely ignored. The concern comes from the fact there isn't a true Franchise focused Twitch feed as it is presented. It is apart of a new mode announcement that many believe will be the new "season mode." All we get is a little blurb that Franchise mode will finally have contract extensions, which while great won't be nearly enough to really make those of us that only play Franchise happy. The team could put our minds to rest early by just announcing in the first stream they have several new announcements for Franchise but I fear we are only getting contract extensions as Franchise doesn't matter to them anymore. If this is the case I expect more folks to check out of the series.
3. One "Big" new mode is nothing more than a return of "Season Mode." - "March to October" mode is being rumored as just a new name for the return of "season mode." If this is the case and they are attempting to sell it as a new mode this is bad form. It should have never been removed and isn't a new feature. It is a returning feature. These types of moves only further upset a long standing base. Don't treat us like we're stupid. If it is a new season mode and they wasted a lot of time on it they will make fans of ignored or missing modes even more upset. Time will tell on this one.
4. Moments Mode - While i'm excited as I am for this mode, I still fear it is coming at the expense of any actual improvements to Franchise mode. I'll enjoy this mode for a bit but after the OSFM roster arrive I'll be done with it. I want Franchise improvements first. Then you can give me fluff modes I didn't ask for. We are four or five years in without anything of true note being added or overhauled in Franchise.
5. Too much focus on Diamond Dynasty - A lot of us at OS aren't really into these card based microtransaction modes. We want a simulation that allows us to run our favorite franchises. Sadly, as the developers have seen how much money these modes can make, they have turned their back on our modes. I get it but the fact these modes get love year after year and the modes that actually made the game get ignored is annoying.
With all of that said, Should we be concerned? My answer is maybe. We have seen a lack of attention to Franchise mode so of course seeing it not have a true stream dedicated to it is concerning. But we also may be getting a lot more and the contract extensions is a mere tease. It is small enough of an item they can release it early. It would make sense that anything major would be held back.
I say hold off on the gloom and doom for now and wait until the stream. While I hope the Sony team lets us know early we can expect a lot more on Franchise than just contract extensions they might not even do that. I know I'll be watching March 7th. I'm hoping to leave with something more than what is being teased.
