Re: Do you use spreadsheets to track your franchise/players?
This will be my first year doing it. I plan on finishing the rebuild of the Marlins into(Hopefully) a contending team. I had never really used google sheets before this other than very simple tasks - never getting into the formulas much so it has been quite the learning experience. I did this for an EA UFC Universe but to much less extent.
So far this is what I have. I'm big into the design aspect so that was a big thing for me, I wanted it to look like I am reading an MLB.com page or something like that.
Standings
For the standings I have it set to automatically calculate winning percentage as well as games back(with a little help, of course). This is just a matter of plugging in wins and losses which is pretty cool and works very well.
Roster
For this page, I created a table for each of the MLB, AAA, AA & A teams. This is just an easy visual way to see who is on which team. I have it set to calculate how many players are on each team at the bottom, as an easy way to track that my rosters are set properly.
Transactions/Draft Picks
This is really basic, no formulas or anything, just a simple sheet to track trades & draft picks. Its really annoying a few years into a franchise to see where a player came from or judge trades a few years down the line as MLB The Show doesn't keep records
Contracts
This is by far my favorite and most complex sheet. I have an easy checkbox system for adding/subtracting players from the 40man roster, which calculates how many players are on it at the bottom. All contract values are calculated and Arb & Pre-Arb entries have a value assigned to them and factor into the total dollars committed at the bottom.
I also have a bar graph showing service time and ages and it also shows the average age of the team as well as average service time for the players. Lastly, I have a graph showing how much money is committed over the next few years. I play with budgets off to make it easier to manage the unsigned free agents at the start of spring training(which funnily enough, is happening in the real MLB haha). I do want to keep payroll somewhat realistic so this is an easy tool to track that
I plan on having another sheet for tracking awards, all star appearances, world series wins, etc... I am undecided if I want to track stats at well, as I want this to be a companion to franchise and not feel like work. I wont be tracking schedules or matchups or anything like that, just feels like too much work.
My main reason for this is to try and feel more immersed in franchise mode and not get bored quickly. If anyone has any suggestions for things to add, I know there are things I am missing but can't remember off the top of my head.
One thing I always wanted to add was for 30 team control. Basically, an interface to input trades and calculate the odds of the trade being accepted by a team.. had a few ideas and couldn’t ever get it where I wanted.
The second thing being a free agency module. Basically, using 30 team control, determine the needs of all teams, calculate who would logically be a fit for the top free agents and generate a realistic way to pick a team for the FA to go to.
This is most of the lacking parts of franchise that could add a lot of immersion we are missing. I like your setup and will deff be revisiting my ideas. Keep it up!Comment

I used to do stuff like this. But it started to feel like a large waste of time without year to year saves. Plus after about a month or two of release, I'm not playing it nearly as much.Comment

Re: Do you use spreadsheets to track your franchise/players?
I did use google sheets for this as well, just an fyi. Mainly because it is free and more convenient to be able to open it on your phone, work pc, home pc, laptop etc...
As for money, I could never accept payment for this. This community has given me so much more in regards to enjoying the MLB The Show Franchise over the years with Rosters, Sounds, Sliders, etc.. that I would be happy to upload it for everyone else to enjoy.Comment

Hayman, great work! Nice to see another Excel fan on here.
Seems like your workbook does a great job tracking rosters and contracts, where I haven't invested as much time in my spreadsheets. Mine are more centered around player trends, statistics, standings and opponent matchups. Might be worth looking to combine some elements of both our workbooks to see if we can really provide a comprehensive franchise tracker that the community could use.Last edited by xNobleEaglex; 02-25-2019, 04:59 PM.Moderator

Tab 1 (Overview): Batting order for L no DH, R no DH, L w DH, R w DH for MLB, AAA, and AA. Once a month in game I stack rank the active roster in ERA, WHIP, OBP, ISO, L AVG and R AVG to adjust as needed. This page also has my pitching rotation and ideal usage of RP's.
On this tab I have some general notes to remind me of my ideal roster depending on what I'm doing. My starting base is the following that I adjust from:
80-85 man roster
5 starting pitchers, ideally with 2 OVR 90+, the rest 80+ OVR with 1 lefty
7 RP (1 Long, 4 Middle, 1 SU, 1 CP)
2 Catchers
4 Infielders (1 UT)
4 Outfields (1 UT)
Tab 2 (POS Plans): For each position I do a 5 year outlook on who I expect to be the starter so I can plan and list out any immediate priorities to solve in the current year (e.g. upgrade catcher ASAP and try to solve long term due to poor prospects)
Tab 3 (Pos Players): a list of all of my position players and these column based stats: Pos, Name, Age, OVR, POT, League (MLB, AAA, AA, A), Salary, YR Left on contract, Arb Elg?, on 25 man?, on 40 man?, Options, Rule 5 Elg?, Con R, Con L, Pwr R, Pwr L, VIS, DISC, Clutch, SPD, Steal, Field, DUR, Other POS, Expectations, Notes
Tab 4 (Pitchers): a list of all of my pitchers in the organization and these column based stats: POS, Name, Age, OVR, POT, League, Salary, YR Left, ARB?, 25 Man, 40 man, Options, Rule 5, VEL, DUR, STA, H/9, K/9, BB/9, HR/9, Clutch, Expectations, NotesComment

Re: Do you use spreadsheets to track your franchise/players?
Hey everyone,
I have uploaded a generic "MLB" version of my spreadsheet to google docs.
I have created a thread below with a bit more information regarding my spreadsheet, I wanted to try and keep this thread a bit easier to read.

The spreadsheet from this thread is amazing:

The user who created it is super helpful as well. I was tinkering with the spreadsheet and had some questions, so I emailed him and he was responsive and happy to help.Comment

Re: Do you use spreadsheets to track your franchise/players?
I want to know why you can't access all your stats. When you enter the game, sometimes you get batter vs pitcher stats. Sometimes you get a game log. That all has to be stored somewhere. How come we can't see it in the clubhouse?Comment

Re: Do you use spreadsheets to track your franchise/players?
With a lot more time on my hands I wanted to do more with my 30 Team Franchise. I have been playing all 162 with the Mets for the last few years and would sprinkle in a Player Lock here and there.
I created a spreadsheet to keep track of each day of the season. My plan is to do 1 Player Lock, 1 Random Game and play the Mets' game for that day.
My spreadsheet allows me to not repeat players/teams often and make sure I spread it around the league.Comment
