Hitting feels weird to me unless I turn pitch speeds all the way up.

      It’s already been covered but

      Online: hitting is absolute garbage.

      Offline: it’s brilliant

No power hitters overpowered and contact players pretty useless. Most runs come from the long ball.

Possibly, most game I played felt really smooth but there could be some hidden lag. But really they continually mess with hitting with patches over the course of the season. The last two years it felt like they just kept nerfing it to where it feels like there’s no power at all. I dunno it’s hard to describe without actually playing it. But the hit variety and everything just feels off online.

It's the lag and their solutions to lag. Zone hitting is too easy, so the % of balls that get squared up is way too high. That makes power hitters overpowered.

And since everyone is free to use whatever method they want, it meant that as a directional hitting user, I was at a massive disadvantage. There was no way that method can replicate what a gamer can do with zone hitting. It also makes breaking pitches the most valuable pitches, and fastballs too easy.

I think online play could benefit from forcing directional hitting in online play. honestly, I always though online franchise MLB games, going way back, should have been played in manager mode. Internet lag makes the crucial element of any baseball game, the pitcher/hitter matchup problematic at best. I do believe that there has been enough advances that have finally made reading balls and strikes, and even pitch type and location, much easier.

Previously, hitting in baseball games was more like slow pitch softball, with an added does of trickery, since you had to guess if your opponent was throwing a strike or not.

The thing with zone hitting is vs good players they rarely strike out. I’ve seen guys take the likes of John a McDonald and hit for .400-.500 cause they can lineup a reticle.

The fastballs have to be faster.

Re: Why do people say hitting is broken?

People say that hitting is “broken” because you can square up a ball and have that ball do nothing to replicate where the ball might actually go in real life. Conversely, you can be late or jammed and somehow pull a ball in this game.

And while that maybe the intended design with how the PCI actually works in relation to the ratings system and everything else under the hood of this hitting engine, it doesn’t make much logical sense when witnessing it play out in real time and makes the user feel as though their input is negated or minimal in impacting the play.

IMO zone has always been broken for me because the PCI locks as soon as you begin your swing. Because of that I just can't use zone.
They changed exactly that in 18, though. Change back to Zone and try it out for yourself.

I’ve seen guys irl be late on a swing and still pull the ball just using their strength.

Zone hitting was never realistic it just accounts for “user skill”.

When have you ever swing at a ball and tried to line up the barrel lol..that’s all hand eye coordination.
