    MLB Rule Changes - 2019 & 2020

    https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-rules-changes

MLB just announced a bunch of rule changes for 2019 and 2020. The most interesting new rule for 2019 is mound visits limited to 5....at least as it relates to MLB The Show.

I am hoping this makes the cut this year, since its hopefully just setting a value for SDS devs.
There is also a new rule about Trade Deadline being July 31st and anything between then and August 31st is strictly a waiver period with no trades. I do not expect this change this year as there is some logic and complexity involved here and the game is basically done.

The 2020 rules are more drastic, but I am sure they will be in next year's version.

I dont think they even had the mound rule visit rules in from last year. Plus from a video game perspective it really does not do anything.

      I would disagree....

You are right that it did not make the cut last year, because the rule was implemented so late in the development cycle, but it does impact a video game.

Mound visits, in MLB The Show, are used to boost confidence and give the relievers more time to warm-up. You can do this (theoretically) every single inning in the game with no penalty if the rule is not applied.

If you limit it to just 5 per 9 innings, it changes how and when you use your mound visits. Essentially its a "timeout" like in NFL or NBA and those certainly exist in those video games.

I don't know if they'll have time to do any of these but I would like the Trade Deadline change and 3 batter minimum for relievers to make it in even though that one didn't take effect until 2020 so I doubt it'll be put in this year anyway.
Same with Roster increase and Injury list, they will probably just be added for next year's game.
Either way, these changes don't really make a huge impact from a video game perspective, at least for me.

Considering thie wild card game was in mlb 12 after being implemented in November the offseason I would say no rule changes will be in

I think one of the rule changes that'll impact the game the most is the smaller expanded roster size. Not really from a code standpoint. But think about how many guys make their ML debuts in September, even only a few IP or ABs. Then they're in the game the next year, with service time, a picture, maybe even a facescan.

I don't like the three batter minimum also if they decide to put the DH in the NL those two take strategy away from the managers that's what make the NL so great.

At least for the single trade deadline, an easy "fix" for us franchise guys would be to go into 30 Team Control and disable trades after July 31st for all teams.

The other changes hopefully they will have in next years game.

This is what I call developing with vision. 2K ships their game with potential rules changes, as an option to select and play your franchise with those rules.

Considering the game will be released in about 12 days (Probably already gone Gold or close to it) it's highly unlikely this makes it in unless they somehow patch it in. That may also be a stretch.

If the new rule about the trade deadline being July 31st with a waiver period with no trades makes it in, fine. I won't complain if it doesn't though. They do need to fix where in franchise mode, any player on the 40 man roster is eligible for the postseason roster. They still have it set to where if a player is not on the active roster or DL on Sept 1st, they are not postseason eligible, which is not what happens in real life.

It'll be interesting to see if they are able to make the 3-batter minimum work.

It would be nice if SDS could fully implement MLB replays first.

I'd rather they spend their time and resources on more important things such as rotating interleague schedules or better stat tracking than expanding something that is useless in a video game.

I think they could get the trade deadline. It may be possible in a patch.
