He announced his retirement today so I am hoping that a Day 1 patch does not remove him from the game. I am sure that Mariners fans, and all baseball fans really, would love to have him in the game; and I'm sure M's fans in particular would want to have him for the first 2 Franchise games.

Ichiro in MLB The Show 19?
Any word on if Ichiro will be in MLB The Show 19?

As for Ichiro himself... as Seattleite/Mariners fan; GROSSLY overrated.
Singles hitter who valued his stats over the team.
When things really hit the skids for the Ms, they asked Ichiro to bat closer to the middle of the lineup, as one of the most skilled hitters in history, undoubtedly, he could have driven in more runs.. but he declined because it would have meant less ABs.
Fitting that he never won squat, and played in next to no meaningful games. You want free speech?

Good question! I don’t think
He will be on the CRP roster though
It’s a 50 50 chance he’s in the game because he played last year but they may patch it. It would make m2o annoying for sine ppl because you can’t change rosters so they could lock it next week without him.
Another question is will the A’s and Ms game be on the schedule for the game? Or don’t get just move those games further on? Can’t remembwr what they did in 2012Comment

Interested to see if he will be on the MTO roster, being that they said it’d be an Opening Day roster

I don’t know if overrated is the correct term to apply to him if those are your complaints. Selfish maybe. But it’s hard to call arguably the greatest hitter of all time(I think he is) overrated.

Ichiro is an all time great and it is undeniable.
Regardless of a salty pissed off Mariners fans hot take LOL!!
One of the most overrated comments in baseball is “he did not win anything” that is just ludicrous on team sports.

M's won an (still!) MLB record 116 games with Ichiro and got bounced by the Yankees in 2001. It kinda went down hill from there....he was not their problem.Last edited by El_MaYiMbE; 03-21-2019, 01:03 PM.Comment

Re: Ichiro in MLB The Show 19?
Classic sorry, not sorry.
All the other great/pure hitters I've seen (Gwynn, Edgar, Mattingly, Boggs..) excelled in areas other than slapping meaningless singles around. That's all Ichiro did at the plate. His record breaking 262 hit season - only 36 extra-base hits!
Gwynn led the League in hitting 8x.. 30+ doubles 7x.. Ichiro; only 3x
Edgar led the League in doubles twice, and RBIs in 2000
Mattingly led the League in doubles 3x in a row.. monstrous '85
Boggs led the League in doubles twice, and OB% 6x, including 5 years in a row
Ichiro is as overrated as it gets. You want free speech?

Re: Ichiro in MLB The Show 19?
I did not intend for this thread to become a debate about if Ichiro is overrated or not.
I'm just concerned that he may be taken OUT of the game, due to his retirement. I know the game is very strongly affected by the legalities of the MLBPA and we've been hamstrung for years over rookies not being able to get in until year 2 (unless you are special like Ohtani), first year managers/coaches not being able to get in until year 2....
He is an OFFICIALLY RETIRED PLAYER as of this moment, thus I am worried that even though he may be in the game when it is released, that they may release a patch to remove him.
To add another wrinkle to this, his date of retirement actually precedes the release of the game, so can he even legally be in the game?Comment

Re: Ichiro in MLB The Show 19?
Ichiro is definitely not overrated. I am lifelong angels fan and I still have nightmares of the guy in his prime. Complain about him being a singles hitter all you want, but I remember one of his coaches back in the day saying that if ichiro sold out for power instead of average he would have easily been a 20-25 home run a year hitter. By your estimation tony Gwynn must be overrated then too.Comment
