Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

No other videogame could do this. My Dodgers score two in the first, the Reds score one in the 6th. Entering the top of the ninth i hold a slender one run lead and the pressure to end a losing streak is enormous. My closer comes in and my hands are literally gripping the controller and getting sweaty. Every pitch was a huge moment and this is less than twenty games into the season. The intensity and pressure I felt couldn’t be matched by another game.

I closed it out and won 2-1. Then I took game 2 the next day 14-6, topped off by a grand slam, my first of ‘20.

Overall I really like '19. But lately I have been working on my own roster project and I must say this is the laziest set of roster updates I have ever seen from SDS. They are just horrible.

19-23 year old Rookies with no play time but out of optioins. These are also "scanned" players so they are un-editable. Locked players with no voice files, some with Booth audio but no Park announcer file. Two or more players with the same face scan on the same team.

I don't know how the OSFM guys do it, have always respected their work. Personally I am giving up this is just to much hassle with a crappy product. The rosters not the game.

I completely agree. SDS doesn't go in-depth as the OSFM guys. I honestly don't know how they're able to capture every single detail of every player. Other than that, I loved playing The Show 19.

I use assisted baserunning, which of course means I’m responsible for all baserunning. I’ve got a player on first with two out. I gave him a step lead on the first pitch, the pitcher tossed over and he was easily back safe. I don’t give him a lead or tell him to steal on the second pitch. The pitcher throws over however and my guy takes a turn to go back but then inexplicably does a 180 and sets off towards second. Of course, he’s tagged out easily to end the inning. Quite happy to admit my own base running mistakes but I’m a little irked when the CPU decides to pull this stunt on me.

Worth adding, stuff like this is rare but I’m not sure why it happened.

I had this happen in a Spring Training game I was playing but thought maybe I did hit L2 even though I was 99.9% sure I didn’t.

Thankfully it was only a Spring Training game so I didn’t really care but it would be quite unfortunate if it happened during regular season game especially in critical situation.

Well after installing the 19 free version I am fairly unimpressed with the graphics. It just looks like a sharper version of years past. I was taken aback by the lighting and just general atmosphere of the stadiums. It looked way too gamey for my tastes.

Not sure what it is but the game needs more depth and ambiance in the shadows and lighting, and of course a full upgrade in materials and a lot of other things.

I really hope they step up their game on PS5.

I see the dugout clock at Citizens Bank Park still reads 255 no matter if it's a day game or a nine inning night game(at least in RTTS).

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

This is still raw, but I'm going to post this anyway. Consider it part of the therapy process, if you like...

We're losing 3-1 going into the 9th. The first two batters reach. I'm starting to believe. The next man up strikes out but after patiently sitting on a FB middle of the plate, I split the outfield only for it to hop over the outfield wall for a ground rule double. 3-2. Runner now on 3rd and 1st.

The next guy up is intentionally walked loading the bases. Still not sure why the CPU did that but no complaints from me.

Again, I'm patient and eventually I get a pitch I like and send it flying to right center field. I'm convinced it's going to beat the fielder so I start sending runners home thinking I'm not just going to tie this up but I'm going to bring the go-ahead man home as well. Only for the right fielder to make the catch. In a mad panic I start trying to send my guys back but to no avail. The out is made at first.

Ball game ends on a double play and we lose 3-2. Controller gets launched.

I don't think I've ever been so pissed with myself as I was at that moment.

Sometimes you just have to remind yourself this is a video game

                    double whammy today...

my runner at 1B got picked off (i use auto base running). and then (1st inning, mind you) i got the notification he was also injured.

but i didn't mind - i just love this game!

There's just something intense about a pitching duel even in the regular season. Facing Mackenzie Gore of the Padres and I have Kyle Funkhouser on the mound and thru 6 innings there are two runs on the board (score tied 1-1), a total of 5 hits and the two pitchers have combined for 21 strikeouts (Funkhouser has 11 and Gore has 10)

Both teams likely going to the pen in the 7th as both pitchers are over 110 pitches for the game.

I set my injury slider at the same level I had it in 18 when I started playing 19. It was at 8 in 18 and I was pretty happy with it over the course of an entire season. After playing through 30 spring training games and 40 regular season games, I was satisfied again until I was hit with 2 starting pitchers going down for 2-3 months in successive games, then hit with a third another two games later. That’s three of my rotation destroying my pitching.

So I’m dropping it to 7 now.

                        Brutal.

these moments are definitely too intense. I start getting antsy, trying to score even 1 single solitary run, a nervous panic sets in as I dont want to waste a quality start. then to make it worse for me I know the CPU is sitting in the opposing dugout with ice water veins nonchalantly waiting for its moment to pounce. my controller is sweaty from fear and over-anticipation (or one too many grilled cheese sammiches) too afraid to make the slightest mistake. somehow I manage to score in a Desperately Seeking Homeplate moment, via small ball, only to walk or hit a batter as the intensity really ramps up, then hang a 64 foot curveball eye level, when I wanted to toss a 58 foot curveball into the dirt, and seeing the pitch disappear into the wild blue yonder. When I win or lose in a 9 to 8 affair, I just dont get that intensity. I guess since I'm seemingly scoring at will, I figure I've got enough juice that well won't run dry, and if I can just manage to get to my closer, he'll make everything smell like roses in Denmark. Man, I love this game so much I hate it lol

The fact that I'm still playing this and baseball season has been over for a while just speaks to how good it is.

No denying that. But what I like to do for most of November to January is do some replay of quick seasons in Show 14 up to the previous year (in this case, Show 18), so as to play with/against retired guys like Jeter, Giambi, Cliff Lee, Tim Hudson, Zito, Torii Hunter among many others. 19 (or the current equivalent) still gets playing time in the winter, just not nearly as much.

I've been playing with the newest rosters. All the free agent acquisitions. I promised myself I wouldn't. So it would be a fresh feeling with MLB 20. But couldn't help it lol.
