Yeah Smith is safe for now since we're barely into the season. I think it's mostly bothering me because he was was so dependable as last season went on that I'm probably forgetting the times were his bat went quiet last year. He'll end up sitting the next game any due to low energy and after that we have a day off so that should be a good break for him.

Some more quick information:

1) I've changed from default HOF sliders to Armor's sliders. I dropped the trade slider, though, and I will probably change the injury sliders as well. It's starting to feel like I can't go a day without an injury.

2) I know I said I would play the home games but I have started to simulate more and more recently. I don't have the time to get a lot of games in so to keep the progress going I just simulate. I'll probably keep it up the rest of the season. When the playoffs start I will play every single game.

3) I've found my groove with scouting. I start off like we talked about earlier, scouting each position for about 5 days each (except for catchers, they get 3). When I scout individual players I check it every day. If their overall drops below 60 or their potential drops below 70 then i instantly move on from them. Otherwise i scout them until the accuracy bar turns green.

The only thing I would say is be careful doing it this way. I still recommend scouting the individual players for the full three days because the potential can go back up. I've scouted players whobhad their potential fall to 55 and then shoot back up to a 70, so just be wary of stopping the scouting early. And I would say let the overall go down at least one more, but no lower than 55. A 55 scouting grade seems to get you a 53-61 rating, which isn't too bad, especially if that player is 20 or younger.

The Marlins continue their 4-game series against the Rockies and the last two games have been really exciting.

Both games I was dominated by Colorado's starting pitching - Marquez and Gray.

In game 1 Colorado couldn't capitalise on a bases loaded, 1-out 3rd inning, and Caleb Smith came up with the huge inning ending ground ball double out to short.

Marquez exited with a 3-1 lead on 7 innings giving up only 2 hits and striking out 9.

Rockies relief pitcher Diaz walked leadoff G. Cooper and then 3B Brian Anderson line drove the first pitch he saw -- a fastball up in the zone -- over the left field wall to tie the game up.

Diaz then retired Castro on a hard line drive to right field and ground out PH Neil Walker. Curtis Granderson stepped up to the plate and on a 2-2 pitch he crushed a hanging slider over the deep right wall to put the Marlins up.

The Marlins scurried into their bull pen to get CL Sergio Romo up and warm.

Opening the 9th, Steckenrider was left in to retire one more batter so Romo could be warm, but Dahl crushed a line drive out to RF. He hit it so hard all he could get was a single.

Romo entered play facing the 6-7-8 batters with one on. He immediately forced Desmond into a double player, before walking Ianneta and then striking out Brendon Rogers.

The 2nd game was much like the first. The Rockies sprinted out to a 4-nil lead after a 2run HR by Rodgers (who is is batting .700 this series with 2HR and 4RBI)

The Marlins grafted their way back to 4-2 in the seventh, before another big 8th inning against the Rockies bullpen blew the game open to 7-4.

A solo shot by Arenado put the scores back to 7-5 top of the ninth with Sergio Romo.

He pitched a clean ninth against the bottom of the Rockies order for his second save in two nights.

The 4th and final game is tomorrow with the Marlins taking a surprising 3-0 record into it.

The Marlins traded RHP pitching prospect O. Hernandez to the Rays for Floridian former first round pick Christian Arroyo.

Arroyo was immediately called up to play 3B.

Well, you are 100% correct. The last three weeks before the draft I ran out of players i wanted to scout individually so I started going back to the guys I abandoned early and their Potential/Overall fluctuated quite a bit. By the time I made it to the draft I realized I made a mistake. My first round pick was a guy I abandoned early.

Braves stretch NL East lead
As the Braves headed into the final series of July, the Nationals had won 17 of 19 to pull within 3.5 games of first place in the NL East. That set up a key three-game series between the teams in Washington.

Despite being shut down by the Nationals vaunted pitching staff, the Braves exit Washington with a 6.5 game lead after sweeping the series. Braves pitching came through in wins of 3-2, 3-1 and 4-3.

The finale was especially excruciating for the Nats. Washington handed over a 3-1 lead to closer Sean Dolittle in the 9th. But Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson led off the inning with back-to-back homers. And after a walk to Nick Markakis, Eric Thames doubled him home for the eventual winning run.

Braves reunite with Miller
After the final game in Washington, the Braves made an unexpected trade just moments before the deadline.

Atlanta had been looking for a starting pitcher for the back end of the rotation and a defense/speedy fourth outfielder. The Texas Rangers provided both in a trade completed just before the 4 p.m. deadline.

Shelby Miller, who starred with the Braves in 2015, returns to Atlanta along with Georgia native Delino DeShields Jr.

Miller was just 4-12 with the Rangers, but his 4.12 ERA is more than a run better than current fifth starter Max Fried. The Braves hope a return to Atlanta and out of the hitters park in Arlington will rejuvenate Miller.

The fact Texas offered up DeShields Jr. as well was a surprise. The center fielder is hitting just .227 this season, but provides the speed and defense the Braves were looking for in a fourth outfielder.

Starting pitching prospect Kolby Allard, along with a C-level 2B prospect, head back to Texas in the deal. With their pitching-rich farm system, the Braves could afford to part with one of their A-level prospects.

Other July trades

• In two separate deals, the Red Sox acquired Mallex Smith and Hunter Strickland from Seattle. Smith takes over for a struggling Jackie Bradley Jr. in CF. Top pitching prospect Sean Huseby went to Seattle in the Smith deal.
  
• The Yankees sent D.J. LeMahieu back to Colorado in exchange for Wade Davis and reserve catcher Tony Wolters. The Yankees bullpen now features four former closers with Davis, Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances and Zach Britton.
  
• Needing another catcher, Houston acquired Austin Hedges from the Padres for outfielder Myles Straw.
  
• Despite having losing records, the A's and Angels are very much alive in the race for the second wild-card spot in the AL. The A's snagged Jorge Alfaro from the Marlins. With Cody Allen having an ERA over 6, the Angels got Kirby Yates from San Diego.
  
• The NL Central leading Reds fortified their bench by brining back Billy Hamilton. Lucas Sims headlines a package going to KC.

I want to slap 95% of my pitching staff. For at least 1 or 2 innings they just forget what they are doing. 2 strike walks, back to back hits with 2 outs that lead to multi-run innings, having a first or second inning where I have to throw 30-40 pitches to get out of it. If we cant get it together this is going to be a long season.

Cardinals send Luke Weaver to A's for Kike Hernandez

The Cardinals have made yet another move, this one a little more significant than the previous.

The Cardinals have sent 29 year old RHP Luke Weaver to the A's for 31 year old utilityman Kike Hernandez.

The Cardinals were in a situation where they simply didn't know what to do with Weaver after acquiring Felix Hernandez off waivers from the A's. With Carlos Martinez due back within the week and Wacha returning sometime in July, Weaver was an odd man out so to speak as he was already optioned to Memphis and cleared waivers. With the Cardinals already having prospects in the upper minors, the best plan was to see the market for Weaver, and the Cardinals were thrilled when the A's offered Hernandez.

Kike Hernandez was part of the Cardinals roster that went to the World Series in 2021, who lost to the A's. He was eventually traded in the offseason from the Cardinals to the A's for prospects as the Cardinals felt they didn't have a spot for the 30 year old at the time. A season and nearly a half later, and the Cardinals finally found that spot on the 25 man roster.

Hernandez will take the spot of Oscar Mercado whom the Cardinals designated for assignment. It's expected the Cardinals are going to spend the next 10 days searching the market for Mercado and move the 28 year old.

I know fans are getting this deja vu feeling of last year when the Cardinals started moving pieces, but this year its different in that they aren't trying to re-invent themselves in the middle of the season, but rather moving pieces that just simply don't fit their puzzle anymore.

THE ALL ROOKIE REDS

So since my last post about my 2019 Reds Fantasy Team, which still has not broke camp from Spring Training, I have figured a way to bring my All-Rookie Team from 2017 to 2018 and then play in 2019.

This team starts out as a 2017 Reds rebuild, in 2017 the Reds started acquiring rookies with no service time and held back their own prospects.
So now the start of 2018 (being played in MLBTS 19) the Reds do not have a single player in the majors or minors that has a single day of service time. All are true rookies and every single stat is mine, like a whole RTTS team you might say.

I struggled with trying to keep realistic trade scenarios and not grabbing every big name rookie. Between 2017 and 2018 roster moves the Reds Rookie Team looks like this...

Most of these guys play at least one other position, if not multiple, and everyone is getting / will get equal playing time, NO SUPERSTARS here. Pitchers are getting fielding time, just as fielders are getting to pitch. The Ohtani Effect.

Marlins Sweep Rockies, win final game 2-1.

Pablo Lopez pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits and a solo Arenado HR shot. The Marlins crafted a run in the 5th when Chi Chi Gonzalez walked Starlin Castro with bases loaded. He then regrouped and forced a double-play ground ball off the bat of Bryan Holaday.

Following inning Nolan Arenado launched a long ball to deep centre left to tie it up.

Once again it was the bottom of the 8th which decided the game when Brian Anderson launched his 2nd HR of the series. Romo once again came on and and immediately issued a walk and then pitched a save game.

Next Up: The Marlins host a 3 game series Vs the Mets.

Astros 2019 MLB Draft Update

The MLB Draft has come and gone which means... time for an update. After believing I had figured out the secret to scouting, the last 3 weeks were rough. The guys I abandoned early ended up being better than I thought. Here's how it went for me:

Round 1 - C - John Clemente - 90 pot. - 70 ovr
Compensation Round - SP - Alan Champion - 77 pot - 71 ovr
Round 2 - SP - Doug Oliver - 75 pot - 61 ovr
Round 3 - SS - Johnnie Connors - 75 pot - 59 ovr
Round 4 - SP - Samuel Hanks - 86 pot - 61 ovr
Round 5 - SP - Dave Shim - 89 pot - 55 ovr
Round 6 - RP - Rick Sims - 72 pot - 65 ovr

As you can see, my first round pick turned out pretty good, but I seriously struggled after that. Clemente was one of the guys I abandoned early and went back to scout when I had some extra days. I also ran out of prospects I've scouted in round 4 so after that it was blind drafting. Ironically, those were some of my best picks.

Clemente is going to end up being an impact player for me in a couple of years. Champion was a waste of a pick. Doug Oliver could potentially help my bullpen with his high velocity. Connors is a speedy guy, he will never be an every day player for me. Hanks and Shim will require quite the investment. Sims isn't even worth mentioning.

To say I'm disappointed in my draft would be a bit of an understatement

Now, back to the season. On June 6, my Astros have an overall record of 41-22... 6.5 games ahead of the Angels. Good for 2nd best record in the majors (first is the Dodgers at 44-19).

Some important stats:

Michael Brantley is 4th in the AL in batting average at .317... yet he is nearly 50 points behind the leader (Didi Gregorious with a .362 avg) with only one fewer hit (72 for Didi, 71 for Brantley).

We have 3 guys in the top 10 in Doubles (Bregman, Reddick, and Altuve) but nobody in the top 20 in home runs... and somehow we are 4th in the majors in team home runs.

Osuna still leads in AL in saves with 20 (Jansen leads the majors with 25).

3 of our pitchers are in the AL top 5 in ERA (McHugh with 2.03, Cole with 2.42, and Brad Peacock with 2.54). Verlander doesn't even crack the top 20 (he has a 3.32 ERA).

In the minors, Yordan Alvarez has fallen off the planet in AAA. He now has a .217 average with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs. He didn't have a very good month of May. Forrest Whitley did the opposite. He now has a 6-2 record with a 2.42 ERA in AAA. However, right now it looks like he will not make it up to the majors this year. There's just no room for him.

On the transaction front, I did claim Adam Wainwright off of waivers. I figured he would make a decent long reliever for me and since he is just making 2 million for this year, I could easily take a flyer on him... it's not working though. He has a 10.52 ERA with a 2.34 WHIP. I just can't trust him.

I don't think Champion was a waste of pick, at least not without not being able to see his attributes. But 71 overall already and 77 potential? You're looking at a solid fourth or fifth potential starter there. And if you have spend some time in the minors and he can dominate, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get his potential up to the low eighties at the very least either. True, he may not have been a good compensation round pick, but he's still solid.
As for Sims, that's a solid bullpen piece right there, especially as minor league depth at the very least. Unless he has very poor per nine attributes. I wouldn't give up on any of these guys honestly.
All in all, I actually like your draft, more than I think you do lol

You're right. I was at least able to figure it out with some time left before the draft, which ended up helping me in the first round. Now I am aware and I will be much better in the future.

Yeah, I may have been a little hard on that pick, but considering the starting rotation I have right now (all above 80 overall) with only Gerrit Cole potentially leaving, i dont see him getting any starts at the major league level. Especially when you start throwing in the prospects like Whitley, Corbin Martin, Brady Rodgers, and J.B. Bukauskas. However, Champion does give me more depth, and if he dominates in the minors and his potentiall jumps to the 80s, it would give me peace of mind to trade one of those good prospects for a piece to get me over the edge. So you are right, he was a better pick than I thought.

As for Sims, that's a solid bullpen piece right there, especially as minor league depth at the very least. Unless he has very poor per nine attributes. I wouldn't give up on any of these guys honestly.

It's no problem. That's why we're all here, right? To talk about our franchises and give each other some tips if needed. I love following everyone's franchises and seeing the differences between them, seeing who shows up and balls out for someone while struggling for someone else. It's awesome
