Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
Typical Braves.
Offense stayed cold, and the Cubs completed the sweep in the NLCS. One of the most dominant teams in MLB history fails to even reach the World Series.
The Yankees defeated the Astros in five to win the AL pennant. New York then rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take the World Series in seven games from the Cubs.
We'll get to work now for 2020. Lots of decisions coming up. The first, unexpected one, is finding a new manager. Brian Snitker decided to retire. Rumors are the Braves may go with an entirely new staff as Kevin Seitzer is a free agent and Rick Kranitz underachieved in his first season.
Even though they reached the World Series, the Cubs and Joe Maddon have parted ways. Could Maddon be headed to the ATL?
Brian McCann and Nick Markakis have decided to keep playing. Whether that will continue to be in Atlanta remains to be seen. Fans are excited about outfielder Melvin Rodriguez, the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball. Will 2020 be the year he makes the jump to the big-league Braves? Stay tuned.

Just before the end of the regular season, I decided to put the strike frequency slider to 0. That made a big difference. The CPU started hitting the corners more and I wasn't smashing the ball like I was early in the season. I was going to move up to HOF for 2020, but now I'm going to stay on All-Star with Strike Frequency and Human Timing at 0 and CPU Timing at 10.Comment

Cardinals win Game 3 behind Wisdom's 2 homer, 5 RBI performance
The Cardinals won Game 3 of the NLDS in Colorado against the Rockies yesterday 7-3, thanks in part to reigning NL MVP Patrick Wisdom. Wisdom went 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI's on the day. Jo Adell accounted for the other 2 runs with a 2 run homerun in the 8th, that separated the two teams after the Rockies made it interesting at 5-3.
The Cardinals got things going early with Bader and Albies recording hits to start the Top of the 1st and then Brendan McKay drew a 14 pitch walk to load the bases for Wisdom. Wisdom took a 1-1 fastball on the outer part of the plate and blasted it into the right seats to put the Cardinals up 4-0 early.
The Cardinals would take an early blow in the 2nd when starting pitcher Carlos Martinez left the game due to a blister. Martinez had worked 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, a walk and striking out 2. Tim Lincecum would relieve Martinez and pitch into the 7th allowing 2 runs on 5 hits but he did fan 7 batters.
The Rockies cut into the 4-0 deficit in the 4th when Eric Thames hit a first pitch fastball to dead center field to make the score 4-1. They would get two more in the 7th when Forrest Wall doubled off the right field wall against Robby Scott scoring two and making the game 5-3. The Cardinals would tack on two more on an Adell two run homerun in the 8th providing the final score of 7-3.
Game 4 is tomorrow afternoon with the Cardinals turning to Jack Flaherty while the starter for the Rockies has not yet been announced.

I like your subtle slider changes, too. I've upped pitch speed and lowered strike frequency and it's made a big difference for me on All-Star. My stars can still take when they get hot, but overall, I'm seeing more realistic stats and game results.
Just over 30 games to go in the 2020 season for the Mets. Hoping to get the playoffs started soon.Currently Playing:

Thanks DJ!
What’s weird (or maybe not) is I’m more excited to get 2020 started than I am disappointed in how 2019 ended.
And I like to keep things fairly realistic. Winning the World Series would have meant bringing everybody back. Now I have an excuse to make changes.
We’ll see if I can knock out another 162 before the end of March.Comment

Cards win Game 4....advance to NLCS
The Cardinals came from behind to win Game 4 of the NLDS against the Rockies to advance to the National League Championship Series for the 2nd time in 3 years.
The Rockies jumped out in the 2nd inning behind a 2 run homerun from Salvador Perez. The Cardinals got one back in the 4th when Kolten Wong belted a solo homerun on the 13th pitch of the at-bat to cut the lead in half. The Cardinals would tie it two innings later when Harrison Bader scored on a groundout by Brendan McKay.
In the 8th inning, the Rockies were on their way to another 3 up 3 down inning, but Perez couldn't handle an Oscar Acevedo slider in the dirt on a 3rd strike that allowed Bader to reach first. Ozzie Albies would homer in the next at-bat to put the Cardinals up 4-2.
Roberto Osuna would pitch a perfect 8th and Trevor Rosenthal would record the save as the Cardinals closed out the series.
Jack Flaherty pitched well as he lasted 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5. He left after throwing 98 pitches.
The Cardinals will now host the Braves for a chance to return to the World Series.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
We're through the exclusive-signing period.
I did fire Rick Kranitz. Replaced him with Brian Kearns. We have offers out for a new manager/hitting coach. Eric Young and Ron Washington will be retained as base coaches. Joe Maddon appears to be headed to Toronto.
We resigned Josh Donaldson to a two-year, $34M contract; and we brought back Julio Teheran for three years at $27.5M. Teheran was a tough decision, but he's still progressing and was solid for us last year. And he's been a lifelong Brave, so that counts for something.
Liberty Media is expected to give us about $130M total to spend. We have $57M in salary with those two added to Freddie Freeman, Ender Inciarte, Craig Kimbrel and Lane Adams. Everyone else is either renewable or arbitration eligible.
Dallas Keuchel, Shelby Miller, Jonny Venters, Darren O'Day, Arodys Vizcaino, Tyler Flowers, Brian McCann and Nick Markakis will hit the open market. We tried to sign Viz, but he made it clear he's only interested in closing. With Kimbrel in place, that's not going to happen with us.
As we monitor the market, some of those guys could return to Atlanta.
Some big names have hit the open market. Gerrit Cole, Madison Bumgarner, Yasmani Grandal, Paul Goldschmidt, Ben Zobrist, Anthony Rendon, Xander Bogaerts and Starling Marte highlight the FA class.
We're looking at Cole and Grandal right now. Not sure Cole will fit the budget since it will take nearly $30M a year to get him. Kevin Gausman could be non-tendered or traded to free up some money.Last edited by LowerWolf; 10-11-2019, 08:50 PM.Comment

Cardinals walk off Game 1 of NLCS
The Cardinals felt a roller coaster of emotions from the 8th inning to the end as they blew a lead, trailed, tied the game and then walked it off in the 9th inning.
The Braves jumped out early in the 2nd inning when Jose Martinez launched a solo homerun off of Michael Wacha to put the Braves up 1-0. Two innings later in the 4th, the Cardinals would get a 2 run homerun from Juan Fabregas to take a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Carson Kelly doubled home Jo Adell to put the Cardinals up 3-1 after 4 innings.
Two more innings later the Braves would get an RBI from Ronald Acuna Jr to make the game a 3-2 affair. Bottom half of the inning, Patrick Wisdom would launch a solo shot to put the Cardinals back ahead by 2 runs at 4-2.
Then things fell apart. Jordan Hicks would pitch a perfect 7th. But in the 8th, Corey Littrell would allow a base hit Darren Baker. Littrell was lifted for Zack Burdi, who would just fall apart and allow Jose Iglesias, Acuna Jr, Luke Voit, Austin Riley, and Jose Martinez to reach base and quickly turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead as the top of 8th ended.
But the comeback Cards weren't done, as Brendan McKay would hit a solo homerun off of Johnny Venters that clanged off the right field foul pole to tie the game at 5. After Osuna got thru the Top of the 9th, Kolten Wong would jack a walk off solo homerun off of Mychael Givens to give the Cardinals the 6-5 victory in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Michael Wacha started for Kyle Funkhouser who felt ill prior to the start of the game. Wacha worked 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 5.
Game 2 will be tomorrow evening as the Braves are starting Kolby Allard. The Cardinals haven't decided who they will be starting just yet.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I LOVE how my offseason turned out.
I have budgets off, but decided to hold myself to $130M to start the season. That's the same as last year. Depending on how the season goes, I'll give myself another $10-15M or so to spend on acquisitions during the season.
I go into spring training with a payroll of $128.5M. I had three main goals:- Resign Donaldson
- Acquire an ace
- Upgrade at catcher
Very happy that I accomplished two of them.
In the exclusive period, I re-signed Donaldson to a two-year, $34M deal. Since I wasn't sure what the pitching market was going to look like, I also brought back Teheran for three years at $27.5M.
When I saw Gerrit Cole hit free agency, I had to get him. He's just the ace we need. So I put all my eggs in one basket and went after him hard. Our five-year, $150M offer was enough to beat out the Mariners and Giants. We have our ace!
That, unfortunately, didn't leave much money for other FAs. We ended our pursuit of Yasmani Grandal and settled on bringing back the platoon of Tyler Flowers and Brian McCann for one more year. The two of them combined cost less than $5M.
And that was it for us in FA. We focused on avoiding arbitration and reaching deals with players under team control. That means we lost a fair amount in FA:- Arodys Vizcaino signed on to be the Royals closer
- Dallas Keuchel signed with Boston
- Shelby Miller is now with the Blue Jays
- Jonny Venters eventually signed with St. Louis
- Darren O'Day and Nick Markakis are still waiting on offers. I feel bad for Markakis. He hit .280 with 11 homers and 75 RBIs and was both an All-Star and Gold Glover last season, but nobody is interested.
At the winter meetings, we went about fixing our depleted bullpen. We needed relief help, the Tigers desperately needed a starting pitcher. So we acquired Joe Jimenez and Darwal Lugo from Detroit for Kevin Gausman and Chris Rusin. Not done with the AL Central, we then acquired Adam Cimber from the Indians for A.J. Minter.
Jimenez replaces Viz while Cimber replaces O'Day (he even throws sidearm!). Lugo gives some organization infield depth. And we saved roughly $3M with the trades. Gausman was expendable after we got Cole and Minter desperately needs a change of scenery after the season he had last year.
Before leaving Nashville, we started kicking the tires on bringing back Venters and Markakis. But we started talking to the Orioles about a Luiz Gohara for D.J. Stewart deal - a couple of A-list prospects. Once we pulled the trigger on that deal, the door was officially closed on Markakis. And we decided to save some cash and sign Brian Flynn instead of Venters for some lefty depth in the pen.
In January, we made a few minor moves. We signed Devin Mesoraco to a minimum deal for catching depth. We swapped prospects with the White Sox and got them to take Lane Adams off our hands before signing Jose Pirela. I always love having guys who can play anywhere.
As for the rest of the league:- The Red Sox reloaded. In addition to Keuchel, they re-signed Xander Bogaerts, but also added Paul Goldschmidt in free agency before trading for Mike Moustakas
- The Yankees countered with the shock of the offseason when they traded for Anthony Rizzo. They also signed Hyun-Jin Ryu, but lost Dellin Betances in FA to the Twins
- The Cubs are apparenlty in cost-cutting mode. In addition to the Rizzo trade, they managed to dump Jason Heyward's contract on the Giants
- After losing Will Smith to the Angels, the Giants signed Pedro Strop as their new closer
- Madison Bumgarner turned down the Yankees and instead will pitch for Seattle next season
- For the second straight year, the Nationals watched their biggest star leave for a divison rival. Anthony Rendon signed a huge six-year deal to join the Mets
- The Phillies traded for Whit Merrifield. The NL East should be a war
- Yadier Molina is still around, but the Cardinals started planning for life without him by signing Grandal
- Give credit to the Pirates for holding off the Yankees to retain Starling Marte

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
The Blue Jays managed to sweep the Yankees who could not get their amazing lineup going at all. They ended up playing Oakland in the ALCS and the offence for Toronto could not be stopped, winning the series 4-1.
On to the World Series against the Phillies and it went all the way to game 7 where the Phillies managed to pull out the win in Toronto 5-2 to secure the World Series. Disappointing to know that these young Blue Jays were one game away from a World Series victory, but they surpassed expectations and should be a legit threat for the next little while.
On to the off-season. Villar wanted a lot of money so he was let go. He signed with Miami. The first move came in the form of a trade. The Jays traded Teoscar Hernandez and Ryan Borucki. Toronto gets a star caliber CF to replace the speed lost by losing Villar. The Pirates get Hernandez who hit 20 homers for Toronto last year and they also get Borucki who was inconsistent but managed to prove to be worthy of a rotation spot. Most noteworthy was his 9 inning complete game shutout to win the ALCS.
Stay tuned for the rest of the offseason moves!

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I may have a problem. I pretty much went day-by-day in the offseason. Played until 3:30 this morning, got up at 8:30 and played some more in between watching football. But the offseason is over and we're ready for 2020.
2020 Braves Lineup
1 - Ronald Acuña Jr., LF
2 - Ozzie Albies, 2B
3 - Freddie Freeman, 1B
4 - Josh Donaldson, 3B
5 - Eric Thames, DH
6 - D.J. Stewart/Delino DeShields Jr., RF
7 - Brian McCann/Tyler Flowers, C
8 - Dansby Swanson, SS
9 - Ender Inciarte, CF
The only change from last season is the platoon in RF. Top prospect Melvin Rodriguez hasn't been added to the 40-man yet, but it's only a matter of time until he's in the outfield. DeShields will likely be the odd man out when that time comes.
Bench
Flowers/McCann, C
Johan Camargo, IF
Jose Pirela, Util
DeShields Jr./Stewart
The tough call here was sending Charlie Culberson to Gwinnett. He actually had a better spring than Pirela, but Pirela's extra versatility won out.
Rotation
1 - Gerrit Cole
2 - Mike Foltynewicz
3 - Julio Teheran
4 - Sean Newcomb
5 - Mike Soroka
Newcomb gets another chance after struggling last year. Really wanted to get Soroka on the big-league club this year after he spent last year at AAA.
Bullpen
CL - Craig Kimbrel
SU - Dan Winkler
SU - Jesse Biddle
MR - Adam Cimber
MR - Joe Jimenez
MR - Touki Toussaint
MR - Max Fried
With a seven-man bullpen, we wanted some guys who could go multiple innings. So Toussaint and Fried both move here, for now at least. Sending Shane Carle to Gwinnett was a tough call after he had an outstanding spring.Comment

Voit slams Braves to Game 2 win
Luke Voit hit a grand slam in the top of the 3rd to give the Braves an early 4-0 lead which would be all they would need to win Game 2 of the NLCS in Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals got one back in the bottom of the 6th when Jo Adell singled home a run to cut the lead to 4-1, but that would be the only run the Cardinals would plate. Alex Jackson hit a solo shot in the Top of the 9th for the Braves to put the final tally at 5-1.
Carlos Martinez wasn't effective giving up the 4 runs on 8 hits while walking 3 in 5 innings. He did manage 4 strikeouts.
Game 3 is in Atlanta as the Cardinals will start Kyle Funkhouser and the Braves will counter with Jose Berrios.
American League Championship Series
The A's took both games in Baltimore as they have a 2-0 lead in the ALCS as the series shifts to the Bay.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I was going to write all of these out but instead I'll just do a brief summary...
Cardinals ride ends at NLCS...Braves win in 6 games
The Cardinals magical 2023 run has ended in NLCS as the Braves win the series in 6 games.
The series results:
Game 1: STL wins 6-5
Game 2: ATL wins 5-1
Game 3: ATL wins 6-5
Game 4: STL wins 3-2
Game 5: ATL wins 6-0
Game 6: ATL wins 2-1
To say this is disappointing would be a vast understatement. The Cardinals were the best team in baseball with a dominant, or thought to be, dominant rotation and a dangerous lineup, but they couldn't find a way to advance past the Braves. The two teams split the season series of 6 games 3 apiece, but the Braves got the best of the Cardinals in the NLCS.
The turning point seemed to come in Game 3 when the Cardinals and Braves battled back and forth, with the Cardinals taking the lead in the 8th, only to give it up in the 9th and head to extras. In the 10th, the Cardinals took a 5-4 lead, but this time the Braves did more than tie the game, they walked it off. The Cardinals committed two costly errors this inning with 2 outs to allow the Braves to not only tie the game, but then win it. Albies made a stop deep in the hole on a Alex Jackson's groundball that looked to be the game ender, but threw the ball in the dirt and McKay couldn't pick it. That allowed Acuna to score from 3rd and tie the game. Jackie Bradley Jr would hit a line drive the next at bat to Juan Fabregas who seemed to have it on the run and at the track, but missed it and allowed Jackson to score the game winning run.
The Cardinals did win Game 4 in Atlanta, but things got dicey in the 9th. Flaherty threw 8 innings of 2 hit ball and struck out 14 before being lifted for Rosenthal. Rosenthal allowed back to back homers to Acuna and Voit, with one out in the 9th to make the game 3-2, before Matheny went to Zack Burdi who struck out Jose Martinez and Austin Riley to secure the win.
Game 5 saw Sean Newcomb return to the mound for the Braves against Michael Wacha, and things were over quickly as the Braves scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings against Wacha in route to a 6-0 shutout. Newcomb went the full 9 allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts.
Game 6 was heartbreaking not only because its where the season ended, but because the Cardinals lost the game at home and in 12 innings when Jackie Bradley Jr again was the hero hitting a solo homerun to right field in the Top of the 12th to give the Braves the 2-1 win. The Cardinals had chances in the 9th to win it with 2 on and no outs but Juan Fabregas hit into a double play and Jo Adell popped out to Voit in foul territory.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the offseason and start making plans to return to the postseason in 2024. They are also faced with a few key decisions this coming winter.
