Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Mike Trout and the World Champion Angels came into Wrigley and showed just why they were champs.

Game 1: The Angels exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd inning off Cubs Starter Cole Hamels. The big blow came from the offseason acquisition of Andrew McCutchen, a 3 run HR ( his 6th) to cap off the scoring. Hamels didn't help himself any either, walking 5. His era now sits at 5.68 and he is 0-2. Andrew Heaney picked up the win(1-1) as the Angels take game one, 6-4

Game 2: Tropeano vs Chatwood. Anthony Rizzo opened the scoring in the 1st inning with a 2 run HR. The Angels would strike for a run in the 6th, making it 2-1 . In the 8th, Mike Trout would deposit a ball into the bleachers with a man on giving the Angels a late 3-2 lead. Bottom of the 8th, runner on first and Ben Zobrist hit his 2nd HR of the season to give the lead back to the Cubs 4-3, which would be the Final score. Tyler Chatwood had another great outing for the Cubs, 5.1 IP, 1k 2 bb and no runs allowed.

Game 3: The Angels flexed their muscle in game 3, hitting 3 HR's off Cub Starter Quintana. McCutchen(7),Simmons(3), Cozart(4) all solo shots. Both Quintana and Ohtani would only pitch 4 innings. Ohtani was a little wild (4walks) but the Cubs bats were flat. The Cubs only runs came off an Ian Happ pinch hit HR in the 8th with a man on. The Angels won 4-2 giving them the series. Quintana falls to 0-3 with a 7.71 era!

The Cubs hit the road again for a quick 3 game series heading to Miami to take on the Marlins (6-10).

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

So, this year I've decided to do something different in Franchise. I've played The Show since 2008 and I've always selected single team franchises but I'd never play a full season because I'd get bored and change teams.

This year I'm controlling 4 teams and will play a series with a team and sim the other 3, then rotate the team I play with the next series.

It has kept it fun, I'm making it through the season without burning myself out on the same team and players. I've selected the Indians, Blue Jays, Padres and Cardinals. So I have diversity in the direction of the clubs, what I plan to do with them and the level of talent top to bottom.

Does anyone else do something similar to this?

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

We cap a 7 game road swing at 2-5. After suffering yet another 3 game sweep at the hands of the Yankees, we salvaged a split of a 4-game set in Cleveland against the Tribe. Game 4 was a stunning come from behind win - after falling behind 5-1 early we busted out a 4-run 7th inning off of Indians reliever Adam Cimber, propelled by a 3-run bomb from Mark Trumbo. The score would stay tied until the 10th, and after loading the bases with 2 outs Cedric Mullins smashed a long fly into the gap that bounced over the wall for a ground rule double. That would be followed by a single ripped up the middle by catcher Carlos Perez to score 2 more and cement a 9-5, 10-inning win. These wins feel good when they come, but we still sit at 12-36 on May 20.

Our other win in Cleveland came behind another strong start from Alex Cobb in which he fanned 9 in 7 scoreless frames. This brings his impressive run to 3-0 in 3 starts, with just a single run allowed in his last 20.1 innings with 18 K. During that game we lost breakout star Richie Martin to a sprained elbow ligament, and he hits the 10-day IL. Renato Nunez gets the call from Norfolk to fill in for now.

Catcher Carlos Perez forced his way up to the big club after batting .398(!) at AAA in 100+ at-bats. He was signed on a non-roster minor league deal so to clear room on the 40-man we made a minor trade - sending AAA infielder Stevie Wilkerson to Cleveland for AA lefty reliever Rob Kaminsky. Kaminsky, a former first round pick of the Cardinals once thought to be a future mid-rotation starter, has struggled with his control in 5+ years with St. Louis and Cleveland and hasn’t made it past AA. We see a 24-year old with a shade of upside that fills an organizational need that I had planned to address in the late rounds of the draft. Cleveland gets a speedy utility infielder to replace the struggling veteran journeyman Mike Freeman. They lead the Central Division with a 21-24 record.

Trey Mancini (.223, 2 HR) and Mychal Givens (0-2, 5.79) continue to struggle. Givens is demoted to a middle relief role in favor of 6’7” powerhouse Miguel Castro, who has been dominant with a 0.92 ERA since being recalled from Norfolk. Lefty flamethrower Tanner Scott leads all MLB relievers with 62 strikeouts in just 38 innings pitched. Jonathan Villar is red hot having a career year, now batting .314 with a team-leading 6 homers and MLB-leading 25 SB.

No reprieve for the O’s as it’ll be the Yankees again for a 4 game set at Camden Yards before we head out to Colorado for an interleague showdown.

As pitiful as our season has been, we are on pace for 54 wins which is 7 better than the 47-115 record the team established in 2018. Really puts in perspective how bad of a season 2018 was in Baltimore.

As an Orioles fan I deeply respect the focus that comes with having to deal with these group of players that they call a roster lol

I think Arizona is in this position. They traded Goldy, but still have some pieces to be competitive, but also could just tear it down and trade Greinke, Ray, Peralta,Lamb

Not the best farm, not the worst and your in a division with the dodgers, Rockies and the stacked farm of the padres

This is also an excellent suggestion. Thank you.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Welp my Cubbies franchise has 5 games to go in the 2024 season. Ive split the first 2 games of my penultimate series of the season with the Pirates. I'm currently 90-67. I can't recall if I've already posted it here but these are my yearly results thus far:

                2014 - 72-90
                2015 - 93-69
                2016 - 101-61 (World Series Champ)
                2017 - 104-58 (World Series Champ)
                2018 - 99-63
                2019 - 94-68
                2020 - 102-60 (World Series Champ)
                2021 - 103-59 (World Series Champ)
                2022 - 110-52 (World Series Champ)
                2023 - 97-65
                2024 - 90-67

Pretty much seems if I hit the 100 win plateau I take home the crown. I will say that this is probably my weakest team in 8 years or so. My dynasty has really been fueled by hitting and power (usually getting 225+ HR a season with a peak of 268 in '22). This year my squad is hitting under .250 and just hit its 150th HR.

Haha thanks. I think the MLB 19 O’s have the worst major league roster I have seen in a show game. Worse than the 18 Marlins in my opinion and its a long time ago now but I can’t remember the 03/04 Tigers being worse than this.

The prospect of this being a multi-year project and basically trying to build a team from scratch is daunting. That being said I’m having a lot of fun with this and look forward to trying to complete the rebuild.

I had a snapshot on a previous phone that was of my initial Cubs roster on MLB 14. I think the highest rated dude on roster was maybe Rizzo at an 80. I remember Kris Bryant on the roster I had was a 72 rated A prospect(He eventually hit 99 in maybe '18 or '19 and currently sits at a 93). My uber team of '22 that won 110 games I want to say had 8+ 90 rated guys and a bunch of high 80 rated guys. I'll have to see if I snapped a picture of it.

Seriously as a Cub for over 30 years it was so fun having my dynasty come together at the same time the Cubs in real life finally got that title. This game has absolutely added to the fun.

In a surprising move on 3 July 2019, the Yankees (47-39, 10.0 GB), who are in a playoff push, trade SP Jonathan Loaisiga, 2B Luke Van Dover and RP Nestor Cortes Jr. to the Rangers (34-55, 24.5 GB) for LF Joey Gallo.

With Giancarlo Stanton healthy and a deep outfield I’m not sure what the Yankees are going for here. The rebuilding Rangers receive 2 hot prospects and a SP that wouldn’t be on a MLB roster for most clubs.

Meanwhile the Dodgers (60-29) have lost 4 out of the last 5, including the first game of a 4 game series in San Francisco (52-36) who are looking to close the 7.5 game gap between the two clubs.

As a real life Yankee fan I don’t find this all that unrealistic. Cashman has never been shy to pull the trigger on risky trades. It lead to some duds (3 prospects for Sonny Gray) but also some no doubt home runs (Shane Greene for Didi, Chasen Shreve for Voit).

The Yankees lack of lefty power bats is well publicized and Gallo fits that bill. If Bird or Voit were to prove not to be the first baseman of the future (entirely within the realm of possibility) a trade for a lefty slugger who can play first base would make sense.

Loaisiga has a high ceiling but is a dice roll with his injury history.

@countryboy @MightyMaxxx13 I don’t know much about the Yankees so y’all could be right. His only batting .129 right now so maybe this change is scenery is what he needed.

I'll give you the Twins (who is the team I am using right now for my franchise). A HUGE chunk of their roster have expiring contracts after year 1. But, in a very weak AL Central, they have an absolute shot at a playoff berth in year 1. It's a very solid, but unspectacular, roster that doesn't really have a major weakness.

You'll have to make a ton of key decisions on who you try to retain vs let go. If you get off to a slow start, do you pull the trigger and start unloading guys and trigger a rebuild? If you get hot, do you ride the wave and hold onto guys under the mantra of "Flags Fly Forever"? You'll have to decide on who your core really is (Berrios might be the one and only obvious choice). How do you structure the team after 2019, do you re-tool or start over?

I think the Twins have the most fascinating franchise storyline for 2019; 10 of us could start a Twins franchise, and we could all go 10 different directions....a rebuild is just a rebuild....here you get to cement your legacy on day 1.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I actually just got around to getting a PS4 and back into sports gaming a bit. So my last version of The Show was the 2012 one on Vita (actually really good), along with the PS2 ones from around 2007 to 2010.

I am irrationally opposed to using simming of any kind in franchise modes. I want to be responsible for 100% of the stats and results in a season, or the numbers don't mean anything to me. Makes sense?

So I spent an hour doing a fantasy draft with the Mariners, only to be disappointed that you cannot shorten the seasons or play shorter games than 9 innings. I was planning on doing one or both of these things so that I would not burn out on hour-long season games.

Aside from the framerate issues noted in the other thread, my main issue with The Show 19 is that I'm not sure how this game becomes a regular habit for me. I have a job and a young daughter, so it's pretty rare that I can commit to a solid hour of uninterrupted gaming. Yes, I can use rest mode to state-save and finish a game later, but I still have to commit to playing each game start to finish, when I might rather load up a 20-minute Ultimate Team game in FIFA, or play a shooter.

And yet, the GM/roster management aspects of a baseball game SHOULD be the main reason for playing a baseball game, since so many of us play fantasy and love the administrative/statistical aspects of the game. Hmm...
