Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just a quick question before I start today: How is the CPU with roster control? Do I have to control every franchise like in NBA2k or can I trust them to not ruin everything in short time?
Don't feel like doing everything for every franchise, since I`m not that into RL baseball right now. But if you guys say there is no way around..

Don't really need realistic approaches either, just don't want to see to many crazy stuff happening. In 2k for example teams would stack one position and ignore the others so that their best players don't even play. That's the thing I wouldn't like to see.

In my experience the AI is really good at balancing its roster

I do single team control and have no issues

Not sure if the workarounds thread is still relevant now or if most things were fixed in the last updates.. It would be a pain to make spring training subs every game for the cpu and have to play the first inning of the first game just to not have a first homerun pop up for every home run.

            STOP THE PRESSES!

Ronald Acuna has hit his first home run of the season. He had to coax it fair, but it stayed fair as the fantasy Braves won the third game of a 3 game set in CN 2-1.

Joel Benjamin went to 3-2 (3.67 era) allowing 1 hit and striking out 6 while walking one. Venters, Blocker and Minter shut them down the rest of the way.

              MountUrCastle's Seattle Mariner's Franchise

A lot happening within this month requires the Draft to be separated into its own post, plus a decision on whether or not this team is competitive looms.

              ----

              June:

Finished the month 40-44, placing us squarely in the bottom in the AL West but 7th overall in our conference.
-Nothing really interesting happened in games this month. Just generally normal games, no real blowouts, although Felix Hernandez, who has been struggling heavily this year, went 8 shutout innings against Baltimore. Not the highest bar to set, mind you, but still an accomplishment for sure.
-We have announced that almost everyone on our roster, from Edwin Diaz, to Jean Segura, to franchise faces such as Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz is available via a trade, committing to a rebuild and the “new Mariners”.

The spring training bug is still there.

The first homerun bug I believe is not present this year. I am using a carryover save so I cannot say with 100% certainty, but I know I read here that the bug was fixed for this year.

                          End of April - 2019

30 games into the season and somehow the Royals sit at 16-14. Good for 2nd in the Central just 2 games back of the Indians for 1st. Got off to a good start taking 2 of 3 from the White Sox in the opening series before getting swept by the Twins in a 2 game series. Followed it up taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers and sweeping the Mariners. We ended a 7 game win streak losing 2 of 3 to the Indians and starting a 7 game losing streak getting swept by the White Sox and splitting a 4 games series with the Yankees. Finished off the month losing 2 of 3 to the Rays. Sweeping the Angels and splitting the first 2 games of a 4 game series with the Rays.

We are doing this while being 23rd in AVG, OBP and SLG at .248/.322/.390 and 26th in HR with only 25. We are 4th in Doubles with 60, 2nd in Triples with 9, 4th in SB with 28 and 3rd in SB% at .800.

Leading the way on offense is Whit Merrifield hitting .342/.397/.492 with 12 doubles. Lucas Duda and Chris Ellis lead the team in HRs with only 4 each. Duda has done that in just 13 games. Meanwhile, our 2 catchers have combined to hit .202/.242/.277. Cam Gallagher will be sent down to AAA Andrew Susac will come up in his place. Susac is hitting .379/.446/.561 in 66 AB. Frank Schwindel was sent down on April 16th. We were in the middle of 19 straight games without a day off and needed a backup middle infielder.

The pitching hasnt been too much better. Our 4.15 ERA in 18th in the Majors. We have no complete games. No shutouts. Our 6th blown saves is 2nd most and we are 26th in Strikeouts with 195.

Jake Junis has led the rotation so far going 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 43.2 IP. Homer Bailey, Heath Fillmyer and Jorge Lopez have been.. Awful. Lopez had a 5.20 ERA in 27.2 IP. Fillmyer is at 6.75 in 20 IP and Bailey is at 6.57 in 24.2 IP. Lopez was sent down to AAA on April 26th. Danny Duffy was taken off the IL and took his spot. Bullpen has been pretty good so far aside from a couple of guys. Wily Peralta has a 4.61 ERA in 13.2 IP and Tim Hill has a 4.11 ERA in 16.1 IP. Jake Diekman has been the best so far. 2.45 ERA in 11 IP with 8 saves. Peralta will be released before our next game. Taking his spot will be Richard Lovelady. He has a 1.74 ERA and 0.48 WHIP in 10.1 IP for AAA.

No part of the team is doing particularly great. But we are somehow winning. We have 30 games left before the draft. And only 6 of those games are against a team with a record over .500. Anything is possible.

The spring training bug is that the CPU never subs out his positional players. The starters will play all 9 innings, unless subbed out as a double switch.

I don’t remember the CPU ever taking players out in ST. Same with the ASG.
