Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well, just got out of the hospital. Following a four game losing streak where my players played terrible, but I managed great, the coaches came into my hotel room, carried my bed out on the freeway while I was asleep and I was hit by a semi....however, I'm much better now.

Have won the first two of four against last place St. Louis 7-6 (Culberson hit a 2 run walk off homer to miraculously get me this win) and 10-2. Acuna had a double, triple and homer in the second game. Rondon was really wild and had to pull him in the 5th as his pitch count got up into the 90s (play on generated pitch count). He walked three, but man, they fouled off a bunch of pitches. He went to 3-0. Cardinals fell to 14-29 (whoa)

Half a game behind the first place Phillies at 23-21. Tight division where the last place Marlins are only 3 out at 19-22.

I just gotta say, this game is really well done.

Cards sweep Reds. Tied for first

The Cardinals swept the Reds over the weekend including a crazy 9-8 win on Mother's Day to move into a tie for first place in the Central with the Pirates.

After having lost 4 straight, the Cardinals have now won 4 straight thanks to a combination of timely hitting and staunch pitching.

The Cardinals get a much needed day off tomorrow, but will travel to Chicago for the first of 3 against the Cubs in Wrigley. The Cardinals will then travel to Miami to take on the Marlins before returning home for 7 games.

      May schedule:

      3 @ CHC
      3 @ MIA
      4 vs NYM
      3 vs CHC
      3 @ TEX
      3 @ PIT (1 game in May - 2 in June)
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Well my 1st season with my Mariners franchise ended with us finishing around 12 game under .500. That is not much of a surprise as we were able to add a few more prospects this year.

Not a lot of great free agents this offseason and wasnt ready to spend $20-25 mil on one pitcher as I got 2 veterans and 2 or 3 top prospects in waiting for the rotation. Only big addition was picking up SS Wilmer Difo, a decent young starter and a reliever in the Rule 5 draft... and also signing Zobrist to a 1 year deal to help boost the lineup and love his versatility.

As for the prospects, Justus Sheffield had a rough 1st season and spring training and he will be starting in AAA to hopefully improve his attributes while dominating down there. As for my stud SP Sixto Sanchez, he had a brief stint at end of the year and has shown he is ready to compete in the majors.... also my OF top prospect Jared Kelenic is improving very quickly and should be another year away while my 3 18 year old prospects keep improving and eill hopefully be ready in a few years.

Im hoping to be able to compete more this year with next year starting my true winning window but we shall see!

Rough opening day loss to the Cardinals but things are looking up. Good luck to all!

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After a few weeks of messing with this game and getting used to the game play and my difficulty levels, I’m getting into my first official Franchise of 2019! I’m starting with a Fantasy drafted team(but posting in here so I can follow along with you guys/FF thread sucks lol). I ran a few different drafts until I put together a team I really like and want to run with. Like a bunch of you guys I play every inning of every game so I really try and put together a team I love so I’ll stick out 162+.

Playing on HOF Zone Hitting default except for +1 Power.
Legend Meter pitching Default except for +1 CPU Power.

After some thought, the team I decided on was the Chicago White Sox. We had the 25th overall pick. Our first pick was Javy Baez who we locked up to a long term deal before the season started(9yr/250 mil). Here’s our opening day roster:

          Starting lineup:
          CF- Margot
          3B- Carpenter
          SS- Baez
          LF- Gallo
          DH- Cruz
          1B- Thames
          C- Hedges
          RF- Cargo
          2B- Hampson

          Bench:
          C-Wieters
          1B- Pujols
          INF/OF- M. Gonzalez
          OF- Engel

          Rotation:
          C. Martinez
          Y. Kikuchi
          Archer
          Darvish
          Kuhl

          Pen:
          D. German
          J. Jeffress
          T. Rogers
          T. Lyons
          L. Garcia
          C. Allen
          R. Stanek

Team is loaded with power, defense and pitching. Good speed too. We are ranked 30th in contact lol. We start the year as the 4th overall ranked team in the league, but in our division we have some solid competition as the Twins are ranked #1, Tigers #2 and Royals #6 overall!

2019 Chicago White Sox Fantasy Franchise

Opening day has come and gone and it couldn’t have started better for the White Sox. We start the season on the road in KC with a 12-1 blowout victory! The team expected to have the most powerful lineup in baseball lived up to the hype in game 1 scoring 12 runs on 15 hits, including 3 2B and 5 HR! Javy Baez was 3 for 5 with a 2B and 2 solo HR. He got us on the board off in the top of the 1st taking a 99 MPH Severino fastball at the letters deep to left for a no doubter. Carlos Gonzalez was 3 for 5 as well with 2 2B and a 3-run HR, driving in 5 runs.

Carlos Martinez absolutely dominated going 7 innings of 1 run ball, striking out 11 without walking a single batter! Our pitching staff held the dangerous 3-4-5 combo of Bryant, Encarnacion and Rosario to 1 for 12, with 4 K.

Hopefully we saved some runs for the rest of the series. We have 2 more in KC, then 2 in Cleveland before playing our home opener vs Seattle on May 4th.

In your guys opinion.. Who would you consider a tough rebuild? Not having much success in recent memory and needs work. (Orioles, blue jays, rangers?)

just tee'd off on Kershaw last game. 8 runs in 1.1 IP. Big blow came off a Grand Slam by Manny. Beat LA 14-4. 2 games left until the All Star break and the division lead is at 5 now.

Orioles aren’t just a tough rebuild, they’re the most difficult rebuild I’ve seen in awhile lol. No really highly touted prospects. Not many veterans capable of being flipped for prospects. You’d truly have to build through the draft a bit.

I think the Jays are much easier because of Vladdy, and their pitching staff is pretty solid. Rangers are a good choice, but still easier. The rotation is a bunch of ‘they might have something in the tank’ veterans who have been injury plagued, but Lynn/Minor should be pretty flippable for prospects. You’ve got LeClerc in the pen, who is young and borderline elite (although struggling IRL), and a pretty good group of young position players who can be franchise staples (Gallo, Guzman, Odor kinda, Kiner-Falefa if you don’t value power at catcher, etc.)

I think outside of the Orioles, the Tigers are probably the second hardest rebuild. They have a few good prospects but not many, their team is loaded with veterans with not much value or younger players who are just kind of ‘guys.’ Lots of AAAA talent. The Marlins are another good one. Their on field talent is obviously lacking but they have some good young pieces for the rotation and position players. Guys like Magneuris Sierra/Lewis Brinson/Jorge Alfaro/Brian Anderson/the Mesa brothers etc. You also have some flippable veteran assets in Granderson/Rojas/Prado/Castro.

You could also rebuild the Giants. We are right up against the luxury tax with a bad offense. Our rotation is above average and the bullpen is relatively good, but boy we cannot hit. I think trading guys like MadBum if you’re not extending him, Belt/Panik/Melancon/Smith/Samardzija/Holland/Pomeranz could net you some prospects. But for the sake of realism and my own personal bias, you should hang onto Posey and Crawford. They’re Giant lifers. I’d like Belt to be too, but he’s unfortunately one of the few valuable assets we have. His power will play really well in basically any park aside from ours, and he has really good plate patience. He’d be a 30+ homer a year guy if he wasn’t confined to the pitcher safe haven known as Oracle Park. I think a rebuild with a team like ours wouldn’t be as tough as people think, simply because we have the capital to throw around in free agency and rebuild faster than small market/cash strapped teams, but it’d still be a bit of a challenge. They don’t fit your ‘no recent success’ criteria though.

White Sox have some really talented young players. Need pitching.

Royals are in full rebuild, but you can build around Mondesi/Dozier/Keller.

Angels are a rotation away from contention, you could always go that route. Don’t know if you want to go through the headache of dealing with Ohtani’s issues in this game though. (His stamina is an extreme problem if you use him as a pitcher and hitter.)

Oakland is kind of in a down year now that their rotation has declined and Manaea/Olson are hurt. Could flip Treinen or others for a starter and contend.

Seattle needs pitching, and their defense is atrocious. But uhh DINGERS. So yeah.

Pirates need offense but have a stellar rotation and good bullpen.

Reds need pitching behind Castillo (when Roark is your #2 you got problems, although Alex Wood will be back this season). But their offense should be pretty good, especially when Gennett is back.

Diamondbacks are stuck with the Greinke contract, but Ray is a quality pitcher. When Walker returns, he could be a good rotation piece. He’s been productive when he hasn’t been hurt. Their offense is pretty solid and they have good defense at most positions. Need to find a true ‘everyday’ catcher, and centerfielder (Marte doesn’t impress me).

The thing about the Tigers is they have a friggin' barrel load of arms coming up! Not a lot on the field, but Mize, Manning and Perez (plus Burrows/Faedo), could be a terrifying staff in the near future.

I'm doing the Marlins and Jays right now using the OS realistic trade forum.

Jays are fun, because they've got some pitching, but they don't really have a tonne of high end arms coming. Reid-Foley and Borucki could develop, but I'll definitely be going hard for arms at the draft. Hoping Pardinho develops quickly! Also, Baby Vlad...through 4 games he's been my offence, hitting .480ish with a couple of bombs and a double or two.

Marlins with the realistic trades are tough. They do have some cool pieces, but apart from trading Brian Anderson, it's tough to get many high end prospects back.

Giants would be a fun one, but they've won so much in the past 10 years that I don't think I could get into it. You're right though, lots of interesting, tradeable pieces.

Atta boy! This should keep you entertained thoroughly. What's your plan with the OF when (if?) they're all healthy? After Stanton, Judge, and Hicks, the group of Ellsbury, Frazier, Gardner and now Maybin (probably in the minors regardless), makes for a very crowded battle for the 4th OF spot.

Right now I prefer Stanton as the everyday LF - he is seriously underrated out there and that would allow me to DH Andujar and/or Voit and have LeMahieu play every day. Gardner is the 4th OF Frazier likely the odd man out, though he’s going to push Gardner and maybe Hicks for playing time. Ellsbury? :sigh: I might bite the bullet and release him. He has an option left in the game but IRL I doubt he is accepting a minor league assignment. I have career AAA guys in the outfield who are probably more useful than he will be when he comes back.

Also important to note I edited Frazier’s attributes up a bit. Stock roster had him in the 40’s for contact and power. He hit over .300 and slugged over .570 in AAA in 2018 despite a concussion. Thats a guy who’s ready for the majors .... and what he’s doing IRL in 2019 corroborates that for me as well.

Yeah, I've done the same for a few guys like him that Ridin's roster had pretty low.

You've got a pretty great team though. Crush those Red Sox!
