Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Dallas Keuchel doesn’t translate to well in this game. Since bringing him on last week:

    1-1
    IP 19
    H. 28
    ERA 6.16
    WHIP 1.63
    13 runs allowed

    Today vs. NYM:
    3 innings
    8 hits
    6 runs
    2 K
    1 BB

This soft tosser is close to getting cut. Gonna give him one more start.

I traded Gant and Pone De Leon for Jose Alvarado. As far as Flaherty, I believe he was apart of the Chris Archer trade. They both didn't really perform very well for me last season, and so I felt comfortable moving on from them. I actually spent my entire off-season beefing my rotation and bullpen. As I felt that was my biggest weakness last season.

I started the season with a comeback - extra inning victory over the Seattle Mariners. Unfortunately, Gerrit Cole didn't have his best performance in his first start for the Redbirds. The outing was going nicely and then he gave up a 6 spot in the 5th inning which ended up chasing him from the ball game. No quality start for him, but he didn't get the loss as I fought back in the 8th to tie the game and then took the lead in the 10th and got a save with Andrew Miller.

I'm going to be streaming a few games today. I am ready to lock into Year 2!

Managed to move/trade away most of my players on expiring contracts, Bumgarner and Smith the top two, at the trade deadline and then managed to move other expensive long-term contract players both at the deadline and during the 2019-20 offseason. Have a completely new look Giants team in 2020 and farm system. Plus the offseason has been completely crazy but before telling you about the other teams offseason moves, let me tell you about mine. I traded Bumgarner and Watson to the Braves, Smith to the Dodgers, and Samardzija and Melancon to the Cubs at the trade deadline in 2019. Then traded Cueto to the Angels and Longoria back to the Rays during the offseason.

Here are some more notable free agent signings from around the league:

LF Scott Schebler to the Royals

2B Joe Panik to the Twins

SP Madison Bumgarner to the Angels

3B Anthony Rendon to the Rangers

C Yasmani Grandal, RP Jeremy Jeffress, and CP Wil Smith to the Braves, Braves also made a trade with the D-backs for SP Zack Greinke

SP Gerrit Cole to the Cubs

Since I am in somewhat of a rebuild, I gauged the traded interest for Posey using the suggest trade and find this one interesting trades proposal from the Astros. C Buster Posey (Age 33, 90OVR, A Potential, 3yrs. remaining) and RP Trevor Gott (Age 27, 80OVR, B Potential, 2yrs. remaining) to the Astros for SP Framber Valdez, (Age 26, 78OVR, B Potential), SP Cionel Perez (Age 23, 67OVR, A Potential), and 2B Tony Kemp (Age 28, 76OVR, A Potential). Immediately thought that Valdez could jump into the starting rotation right away in 2020 and that Kemp could compete for a the starting second base job with Cabrera during Spring Training, but trading Posey would open up a major hole at catcher as I don't feel Bart is ready for the majors just yet. What you all think I should do? Would you or would you not make this?

Just my opinion but Posey should be a Giant for life.

Sounds like you have an awesome franchise going.

CLEVELAND BATS RESPOND IN A LOUD WAY AFTER QUIET GAME 1

46 degrees and steady rain was the forecast for game 2 of this ALDS! Bagwell would start the scoring with another 1st inning HR, his third in just the first 2 games so far! But then it was an offensive clinic hosted by this very potent Cleveland lineup! AL MVP Lary Doby displayed why he took that trophy home with little debate, going 5 for 5 with 1 HR and 1 double, scoring 5 times! Oswalt would be pulled in the 3rd inning after giving up 7 earned runs early and Cleveland going up 7-1! The Astros responded with a 5 run 4th making it 7-6, but that wouldn’t be nearly enough tonight, as the Indians would score 7 more after that point in the game, and Houston would score no more. Indians win game 2 decisively by a score of 14-6 tying the series at 1 each headed to Houston!

Planning on starting a franchise that I hope can make last awhile, I just dont know if I want it on here, for the easier setup and the ability to actually play games out, or on OOTP for a more in-depth management aspect....

              End of Season - 2020

Another losing season is in the books. We finished 67-95, 4th in the division and the 7th worst record overall. But we did have a good finish to the season (good for us anyway) as we were over .500 going 28-25. Meanwhile, the NL East had 3 teams with 90+ wins and the AL West had 4 teams with 88+ wins. And no one in the NL Central had more than 84 wins. And there were 5 teams with 100+ losses. Led by the Orioles at 49-113 and the Marlins at 50-112.

              Standings
              Spoiler

We made a couple of trades midseason. On June 22nd we traded Whit Merrifield, Brett Phillips and Kevin McCarthy to the Atlanta Braves for 21 year old SP Trey Riley, 21 year old CF Drew Waters and 26 year old RP Chad Sobotka. On July 23rd we traded Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels for 22 year old CF Brandon Marsh and 22 year old RP Salvatore Santiago.

Whit was hitting .271/.337/.383 with 4 HR. But was much better recently hitting .373/.448/.627 the 2 weeks prior to the trade and .324/.390/.514 since June 1st. Kevin McCarthy had a 2.05 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 32 IP. And Brett Phillips was hitting .253/.346/.331 in AAA. Jorge Soler had missed some time early in the season with an injury. He came off the DL in early June and absolutely raked in his next 22 games before the all-star break hitting .388/.453/.565. He reached base safely in all 22 games with a 20 game hit streak. He came out of the break even hotter hitting .421/.489/.780 in 11 games before the trade.

Forgot to put down all the stats before advancing to the postseason but we weren't very good in any area. Mondesi struggled most of the season but looked good the last month or so. He ended up hitting .250/.311/.402 with 14 HR. Salvy had a terrible season that ended with him on the DL. In 119 games he hit .214/.269/.339 with just 11 HR. His worst AVG, OBP and SLG in his career and his lowest HR total since 2012 when he only played in 76 games. Ryan O'Hearn was our best player after Whit and Soler got traded. He hit .294/.388/.485 with 25 HR. Erick Mejia finished 3rd in the AL RoTY voting after hitting .296/.363/.415 with 6 HR. Jorge Bonifacio had a nice bounce back season after spending all of 2019 in AAA. He hit .273/.366/.423 with 14 HR.

On the pitching side Jake Junis was our best starter putting up an ERA of 3.47 in 186.2 IP with a 1.15 WHIP and league-leading 36 walks allowed. Brady Singer made 10 starts after being called up in August. He had a 3.14 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 57.1 IP. Brad Keller struggled with the long ball this year. Gave up 28 HR in 171.2 IP. Before this year he had only allowed 20 HR in 303 IP. He finished with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP which was the best of his career.

Ian Kennedy is our only free agent and he wouldn't be back on this team if he was paying us to play. Hunter Dozier is up for Arbitration for the first time. I assume the team would win if it goes that far so he should be back but im not 100% certain. Andrew Susac and Glenn Sparkman are up for arbitration as well but we will let both walk. We currently have just 3 players under contract for 2021. Danny Duffy at 15.3M, Salvador Perez at 9.9M and Jorge Bonifacio at 860k. I expect it to take around 30-40 million to bring back our arbitration and renewable players. So we could have a fair bit of money to throw around in free agency. Mookie Betts is by far the best player available this offseason. The next best position player is Joc Pederson with James Paxton being the best starter.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Welp, the 2025 Cubs have secured their 11th straight central title with a 6-2 win over Montreal(for those wondering I “moved” the nats back to Montreal). They now have a 95-61 record with 6 to play. As I’ve said numerous times, 2025 has played very PED-era wise.

Bryce Harper sits at .338 with 61 Hrs, 157 knocked in and a laughable .775 slg. Just crazy. My Ryno clone Morgan Duran has rewrote the record books for a second baseman. He has become the first 50/50 guy in league history. He’s currently at .283 with 50 Hrs, 148 rbis and 50 steals. He never have a 40 HR year before this season. His .283 ave is kinda misleading as well, he was in the .250s for most of the year but has really went towards career ave and been comfortably over .300 since the break. And there’s Kris Bryant...just having your ho-hum .286, 46 HR 119 rbi season that has really been swallowed up by Duran and Harpers Years.

Theses guys have really carried the power Load for my team (157 of the 206 team Hrs). Another guy of note is rolando Higgins. He’s gotta be my bounce back player. In ‘24 he was at .255/.349/.273. All numbers we way off his career averages. This year he’s back to .300/.405/.356 and 108 steals.

All that’s really left for the regular season of 2025 is to see if I can get to 100 wins. That seems to my the clue as to if I will win the WS. The 5 times I’ve reached that plateau I won the WS.

                  2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

Sep 10: We’re chugging along with just a few weeks left in the reg season. After sweeping last place SEA 4-0 at home, we went on the road and took 2 out of 3 from NYY and 3 of 4 from BAL. We now sit at 90-55 on the year, OAK sits in 2nd at 86-58(3.5 GB) and LAA sits in 3rd at 85-60(5.0 GB). They are both leading the AL Wild card race with the closest team 6.0 GB.

We had our 3rd player of the month award winner this season for the month of August. It was one by the hottest hitter in the league right now, Joc Pederson. In just 87 AB, he batted .391 with 16 HR and 28 RBI. He’s basically become a cheat code. He had his SECOND 4 HR game on the year on Aug 31 and he’s already hit 7 more HR in 7 games played in Sept. He went from having a decent amount of HR to completely sprinting past teammate Matt Carpenter who seemed untouchable earlier this year, leaving him in the dust. Pederson now sits at 57 HR with 17 games to play, Carpenter sits at 52. He’s also brought himself into the MVP discussion and currently sits 2nd in that race.

Pitching has also been much better. After notching just 6 shutouts over our first 135 games, we’ve had 4 shutouts in the past 10 games!

Cool side note: after being sent down a month into the year when we were offered Eduardo Escobar in a trade, Richie Martin was part of our September callups. In his first start since returning, he hit a lead off HR for his first career ML HR! He also ended up with 3 hits in the game. His defense and speed can def help us the rest of the way as we fight to take the division. It’s nice to see him have a day at the plate since he started out the year so poorly.

We head home to host 3 games vs TB and then a huge 3 game series vs OAK.

Texas Rangers Update: Season 2 End Of Season (MOM)/ Spring Training 2021

Well the Rangers ended the 2020 season with 68 wins. A 1 game improvement from last year. Our bullpen was terrible and cost us at least 10 games late. Starting pitching was OK. The second year saw the New York Yankees win the pennant as they defeated the New York Mets in the second ever Sub Way Series. History was also made in that the Los Angeles Dodgers broke the single season win record by going 123-39. They won the west by 32.5 games yet were somehow swept by the Wild Card Mets in the NLDS. The Mets went on to defeat the Brewers in the NLCS and the Yankees avenged last years ALCS defeat to the Astros by winning this time and thus taking the World Series from the Mets

The offseason was Ok I guess. I made a run at Mookie Betts but he signed with the Mariners. I did sign Tyler Skaggs, and overpayed probably for Justin Turner (36 years old) and David Robertson (35 Years Old) we will see.

Here is how the team looks as we near the end of Spring Training

C- Jose Trevino- Injury Plagued year last year. Spent 3 months on the DL. I'ts his job now and Cameron Rupp is the back up

1B- Patrick Wisdom- 17 HR's a year ago but only hit 215. I have hopes he can raise his average. He is progressing well with a 79 rating

2B- Roughned Odor- Solid season again. 285 Average 22 HR's. Drove in 75 runs

SS- Elvis Andrus- 265 Average with only 5 HR's. Very disappointing season. He has to hit for the Rangers to have any success. Went through the first 2 months of the season hitting under 200

3B- Anthony Rendon- What a signing last season. 2nd in the AL Batting Race with a 340 AVG. Hit 30 HR's and drove in 103 Runs. An absolute stud at third base

LF- Jose Pirela- A 250 hitter who can play any where on the diamond. Descent speed

CF- Aaron Altehr- Has to improve from a 225 season. Has 78 speed and descent power.

RF- Nomar Mazara- God what a disappointment. Hit 210 last year and was eventually sent down. Has to rebound.

                      DH- Justin Turner

                      Pitching

                      1. Minor- 3.4 ERA remains solid
                      2. Tyler Skaggs
                      3. Drew Smyley- 4.2 ERA. unlike real life Smyley hes been Ok
                      4. Lance Lynn- 4.2 ERA
                      5. Its time for Hans Crouse. Started 8 games at the end of last year. The Texas prospect is Number 7 on the prospect list. 22 Years old

                      Bullpen

                      CL- David Robertson
SU- Aroldys Vizcaino- 7.2 ERA last year. Has to be better
                      SU- Jose Leclerc- 5.4 ERA

So you can see. A weak outfield and questionable Bullpen heading in to 2021. Betts sure would have helped

Dodgers drop game 3 of the 2019 World Series in Anaheim, 5-4. A 2 out 2 run home run by Kike Hernandez in the top of the 9th narrowed the gap but it proved to be too late for the boys in blue.

Ross Stripling got the start and earned the Loss giving up 4 runs in 5 innings off of 3 hits and 3 walks.

Wade Miley earned the Win for the bad guys giving up 2 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings.

Game 4 will feature Julio Urias vs Tyler Skaggs on the mound as the Dodgers hope to even the series back up at 2-2.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just thought I would give you guys a quick glimpse into my second season franchise. I was going to do a whole mid-season break down but just felt way too overwhelmed with it so decided against it.

But here is a look at the standings a week or so into August.

after starting year two on AS I decided to just go back too rookie and have fun without always being stressed all the time. Now that I have had open heart surgery it is def the way to go.

At the end of August, I will bring you all the team stats

Just came in read up on some franchises and also say that I made the jump from HOF pitching to legend and wow. It really makes the other teams superstars feel like superstars. Have played 5 games and allowed at least 5 runs each game where as HOF me allowing 5 runs was very rare.

2020 Offseason: Jays coming off a trip to the ALCS in 2020 look to improve.

There were some big fish in the FA market, but the Jays have there eyes on the coveted 2021 class. But they do make some moves to stay competitive in the AL East.

Jays extend SP Marcus Stroman 4 YR 46mill

Jays decide to let SP Aaron Sanchez hit free agency.

Jays sign 35 year old Yoenis Cespedes 2YR 25mil
Jays sign 35 year old Carlos Gonzalez 1 yr 4 mill
Jays sign 36 year old Matt Kemp 1 year 3 million

Jays trade SP Riley Pint (B) 73OVR, SP Adam Kloffenstein (B) 68OVR for
SP Jake Arrieta 80OVR, RP Victor Arano 79ovr and RP David Robertson 82ovr.

Jays felt they needed another veteran arm in the rotation. The Phillies were coming off a 75 win 2020 season and were looking to dump off veterans while gaining good prospects. Jays get two big bullpen arms, and a starter in Jake Arrieta who in 2020 went 15-7, 2.53ERA. Arrieta and Robertson only have one year left on there deals.

That wraps up the Jays offseason!

                                2021 Jays Season:

Another strong season for the Jays. Went 96-66 and yet again had to play for the Wild Card game. The Yankees continue to win 100+ games with ease.

All Star selections: Jose Abreu, Cody Allen

                                Highlights: 3B Vlad Jr .351avg, 40hr, 117rbi
                                LF Cespedes .296, 21hr, 79 RBI
SP Nate Pearson, 13-6, 2.74ERA (First Full season 24 yr old)
SP Bob Massey, 7-2, 3.76ERA (Top Prospect)
SP Ryan Borucki 12-10, 2.86 ERA
                                1B Elmer Gonzales .294AVG, 7HR, 41RBI (# 3 prospect 21yr old)

Jake Arrieta was a bad acqusition for the team and hovered around a 5ERA all season long. Injuries piled up for the Jays. Abreu went down in early August missing the rest of the season. Ryan Borucki went down in late august also missing the rest of the season. These injuries allowed top prospects Gonzalez and Massey to come up and perform for the Jays.

Teoscar Hernandez also got hurt along with Randal Grichuk. This prompted the Jays to make a deadline move and acquire Ender Inciarte from the Braves who were out of the playoff hunt. Inciarte was a rental.

In return the Braves got Seiji Uebayshi RF (B potential 74ovr, 25yr old), and 28 yr old LF Johnathan Davis (B Potential 77Ovr).

Inciarte slotted into the leadoff spot for the Jays. A spot they needed to fill desperately with all the injuries.

They did not miss a beat and made the wildcard game.

The Jays would win the WC game vs Kansas city in an epic fashion. Winning in the 9th on a walk off hr by Vlad Jr.

The Jays would go on to face the NYY and struggle mightily. The pitching could not cool down the Yankees bats. The Jays went down fairly easily in 4 games. Missing out on a return trip to the ALCS.

The Oakland A's would beat the Cubs in the World Series thanks to the A's newest free agent signing in Mookie Betts.

                                Offseason next!
