    Budgets exploding in Franchise

So I have been running some test franchises over the week to get a feel if anything has changed with the system from last year until OSFM or CRP drops. One thing I am noticing is that team budgets even for small market teams are exploding after the first year. In 4 out of 5 franchises I tested the Rays in particular have gone up north of 150 million. Someone's even close to 200 mil. All of us know this would never happen in real life and success does not always lead to bigger spending in real baseball. Case and point the royals. They went to back to back World Series and won one, but had to let a lot of their top guys go due to market constraints.

I think budgets need to be tuned down a bit and is leading to way too many small market teams having money to sign big free agents

I think this all goes back to the development team adding real contracts without making any of the necessary changes in franchise logic or financial tuning to account for such a change.

I know I am beating a dead horse here, but I still am amazed that they thought they could just add realistic contracts without any other consequences. Everybody on this forum that is a "franchise" guy knew this would create other complications unless it was done right, tested, and tuned.

I don't have the game and won't until the franchise issues are patched but I'm curious whether you tried this after today's patch dropped.

A lot of times they fix things like this under the "various bug fixes" without specifying that they fixed it.

Yup, an all too predictable problem, that everyone saw coming.

I do not doubt that SDS will patch this. From their perspective; having teams accrue too much money in the budget is better than not having teams be able to afford real contracts.

Lots of small variables as well. Got to look at the roster composition. Are these teams signing players of worth $$.

In my head it seems like a very fixable adjustment once more data from us is put out.

Agreed it may be unrealistic for the growth. But seems like a very realistic fix once more feedback comes out.

I turned budgets OFF in my franchise.

This franchise also was a fantasy draft will all legends included. I have no idea the chaos that it will create

I have them off also, but does it turn them completely off?

In the fictional league I created just to mess around, there are no budget restraints when making trade or signing free agents, but my team does run a big deficit (this is a mess around league, more for testing) and I get messages about being out of money and using money from next year's budget.

Does this matter with budgets off?

To be fair don’t most of those small market teams lose their superstars due to most big name guys going to the big markets to grow their marketability and what not?..... not so much that the teams wouldn’t pay them if the team was winning games, The Astros started paying up as soon as the on field performance warranted it and had like mlb record low payroll just a few years ago

This is absolutely 100% untrue. The largest contract the rays have ever signed was longoria's. And the only reason he took the money he did was because they still had arbitration control on him for a few more years and he would have lost money playing the long game. They have even said it's not financially viable to re-sign these players when they can either A) trade them for assets before they lose them or B) get a compensation pick for letting them walk. Baseball is really one of the last major sports that has no salary cap so your player salary budget is largely based on revenue earned. There are exceptions. San Diego is a poor team but is able to sign Manny Machado due to a new TV deal taking effect in a couple of years that accounts for the fact that San Diego is one of the fastest growing media markets in the country, and has several large scale telecom corporations that call the area home (cooperate sponsorships). If the pirates or rays were willing to cough up 350 mil they could have had either, unfortunately that is not a reality for those teams based on revenue they generate

In my 18 franchise Harper signed with Tampa so it wasn't perfect then either but I don't see a reason to buy 19 and carry over my franchise until this issue is addressed.

They are probably working on it now since they had a developer assigned to contracts.

The Florida teams have such awful fans which handcuffs their budget most years, but that would be hard to replicate in a video game.........

To be fair to the Florida fans, I lived in Florida for a few years and went to a few rays games. It's hard to get excited about going to a game when the stadium is in the middle of downtown. To get to a 7:00 o'clock game in rush hour can take you up to an hour. Not worth the stress. They would be better off building outside of the city limits. Also Tropicana is an absolute dump and doesn't have some of the modern amenities other stadiums have. Also, the team does not own the ball park the city does. So they can't generate additional revenue from things like concerts/other sporting events or parking for that matter. Even if they owned the stadium Raymond james and Amelie are both nicer arenas and are a preferred choice over Tropicana.

As far as Miami goes. It's hard to support a team when every three years your best players are getting traded.

An hour during rush hour!? I wish it would only take me an hour to get to Fenway during rush hour and I’m right outside the city.

Does this happen in carry over saves? Or just new franchises. Honestly hoping it's for everything, a lot of teams could use the boost in my carry over's universe.

                              I'm also curious about this.

I just started my Franchise and I have budgets on but I don't want it to restrict all these large extensions that are happening.
I may restart it with budgets off (I'm at the beginning of spring training anyway)

Anyone know about any restrictions further down the line with budgets on?
