    Check Swing Question

In MLB 19 what is the check swing based off of? I know that the swing type, player stats, difficulty and sliders play an effect but what actually controls the check swing itself? Using directional hitting, is it based off of how long you hold the swing button down before you let go? Is it pressure based so that if you hit the button too hard you can't check swing no matter how quick you let off the button?, or does it have to do with how far or close the ball is to the player in mid flight? Sometimes I swear that as the pitch is coming in if the ball has crossed a certain invisible threshold that you can't check swing regardless. I honestly don't know what the parameters are for the check swing, I just know that I'm not very good at it. Most of the time, something like 90+ % of the time I attempt a check swing the player swings the bat when I don't want him too.

    Re: Check Swing Question

I’ve been watching this lately too; I believe it’s frame-based AND pressure-sensitive. My advice is to just keep playing, you’ll get better and better at it. For my first 8 or 10 hours with the game the only checks I was getting were those really slow and late ones that look terrible. My last couple games since I’ve been paying closer attention (and getting better at hitting) I’ve been seeing some really cool and timely-looking ones.

    Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

      Re: Check Swing Question

Outside of sliders (the contact slider effects check swings) and an element of randomness (there are situations where you can have an ideal check swing and the batter will swing for the fences, likewise you can really muck it up sometimes and be fine), check swing is down to four factors in directional.

The swing you chose, how long you held the button, how hard you pressed the button, and the batter's discipline attribute vs their power attribute.

Like I said before though, there is an element of randomness kicking around in there as well.

I guess you guys are right, because I've tried to narrow down what actually controls it and at times I feel like it's just not one thing. If it was only one thing, ie. pressure based , or button length then I could fine tune it to my muscle memory, but with it apparently being variable it's hard to nail down.

          Re: Check Swing Question

I am check swinging all the damm time with the change ups and off speed stuff.

95% of the time it get's called a ball too, I rarely ever get called as a strike. dunno if it's me getting away with it and mastered the art of check swinging or maybe the game for some reason never calls you hardly on it. it never used to be this way in the MLb 12 to 13 days. a few years ago it changed and it is rare as hell to be called on a strike on a check swing for me anyway.

It's highly dependant on difficulty and slider settings.
