    Re: Franchise mode approach

    I know this has been said a million times, but all I really wanted them to add this year was more finance into the franchise. Tickets prices, stadium upgrades, etc. It's really a bummer that it's the exact same as last year. Somebody from SDS please listen

      Hopefully this will give me the MTO clutch moments but still give me the freedom to control my roster.

      That is interesting

      Stupid question and please excuse my ignorance but i assume you did so in a classic franchise mode not march to October (just to be sure i did not bother much that new mode which looked like gadget to me)

        Yes I’m running it within a regular franchise mode. I’ve tried MTO but I find something within the difficulty level off. Hitting just feels different in other modes to me.

          That isn't necessarily true I won the World Series with the Marlins in TS16 I played every game on twitch with default sliders all-star hitting and Hof pitching.The Marlins roster and GM assignment was (Rebuild) the game allows
          for your user skill to help you over achieve! I also played the entire season and post season did not sim any games... I do consider myself bc a die-hard tho!Plus I work 12 hrs a day m-th... I just love the game!!!

            I’m thinking of controlling all 30 teams this year, and automating every task on 29 of them. I want to be able to make sure lineups and rotations make sense. Anybody ever do this? How did it work?

              Sometimes I like to do 30 team control everything on auto,and just play out the TV games from irl. Get to use every team that way and watch the universe unfold.

                Re: Franchise mode approach

                Ok I think thanks to this thread and another couple i am getting close to be figured out.

                Games approach

                Spring training will be optional/on need i will play to test players or sim.

                Regular season,sbnnky inspired this

                2 game series: play 1st gm, then manage 2nd

                3 game series: play 1st, then manage 2nd game.
                If I win 2nd game, manage 3rd game.
                If I lose 2nd game, play 3rd game.

                4 game series: play 1st, then manage 2nd game.
                If I win 2nd, manage 3rd & 4th.
                If I lose 2nd, play 3rd then manage 4th.

                Post season: play all games if you get there

                Trades
                trades only for players OTB in season
                no trade for high profile prospect from non winning team / rebuild team even if the cpu put them on the blog
                no shop player around trade

                Prospect and draft
                no push of any prospect before their 21/22 years
                draftees will play a year at least in minor

                Contracts
                players extension will be subject to max between
                * player sal + 20%
                * player pos avg
                * player desired contract

                RP = 6.9
                DH = 7.8
                CP = 8.3
                C = 9.4
                3B = 11.7
                SS = 12.5
                2B = 12.5
                LF = 12.7
                CF = 12.7
                RF = 15
                1B = 20
                SP = 22

                Prospect edit (probably the most tricky)
                - In off season i would love key prospect get a decent progression based on potential and age but it is tricky to get a decent rule
                - so for under 70 skills when age is under 23 for pos players and 25 for pitchers
                - For A ensure all key attributes increase min by x% (20?)
                - For B ensure all key attributes increase min x% (15?)
                - For C ensure all key attributes increase min x% (10?)

                Others
                - I take care of all actions GM and Manager
                - No staff hiring outside off season
                - Manager contracts - On
                - Do not activate any sponsors

                Setup
                - Mike Lowe (from OS) sliders (changed to AS hitting base)
                - Injury slider to 9 (sim tyle need injury)
                - Full Minor released 12/04

                Open issue
                Pick between DH team and non DH team (usual dilemna)
                DH: Blue Jays or Oakland
                Non DH: Marlins or Pirates
                May setup dynasty nation page for fun

                  Question,
                  (using full minor as roster)

                  would you see as realistic to start with Marlins and sign:
                  1B Morrison
                  RF Rasmus
                  RF Valencia

                    If you're playing budgets off , set up a test franchise w/budgets on. If Miami has cap room, I say go for it.

                        Re: Franchise mode approach

                        I play at least one game per series with quick counts on. Throughout the season I'll start playing each start for pitchers I really like so I end up playing a decent number. With the Braves having so many young pitchers that I'll shuffle back and forth I'm going to make sure to play every initial start with them too.

                        This is my baseline. It helps me get through the season without getting stuck if I don't play for a while. Also helps facilitate the roster management side which is what I love about franchise the most. And it allows me the space to get invested and maybe play more than that if I'm really digging the on-field product.

                          Re: Franchise mode approach

                          Ok this will be a long post.... (surprising right? Lol)

                          I have played Franchise mode in several different ways, but i always play every game for my MLB team. What i differ in is how i handle roster moves,etc.

                          I have had seasons where i play every Spring Training game, and others where i just play enough to get a good feel for some players, then sim to regular season. (The most fun way though, is to not get in a hurry, and play every game to have position battles play out live. When Spring is played right, they don't seem like waste games - and makes Opening Day seem that much more special. And I really get to know my minor leaguers and prospects, for the future. I have in the past even wished i had a few more Spring games to help me finalize the Rosters.) I track all of my players stats through Spring, and save it as a seperate file in the Show for future reference during the season.

                          During Spring, I turn off all commentary, and stadium music, and turn the crowd volume down a bit. No HR music or anything. Just the sounds of baseball. Then on Opening Day, i turn it all back on, and up.
                          This makes Opening Day seem even more like Opening Day. Gives it that big time feel. (After Opening Day I turn just Commentary back OFF, except for "nationally televised" games or MLB Network games, or Sunday games, etc. to give those games a "big" feel, and it keeps it from becoming annoying and repetitive. )

                          In Regular Season, I play every game, every pitch, for my big league team, and keep a close eye on my MiLB teams. I use 30 team control, but hand over almost all control for other teams to the CPU. If I choose to play as GM for my team, I try to make as realistic roster moves as i can. I will also try to make unbiased moves for the CPU around the trade deadline if neccessary. (I run thoughts by a buddy of mine. And i use past trades from real MLB as template for realism)

                          For years i always played as GM. But one of the most fun ways is to let the CPU just handle all roster moves and/or trades and signings. And then just play. And I sometimes get very happy when we get a big signing, or upset when the CPU trades away a player i liked. There is something really fun about not being in control of everything. Just like real baseball.

                          I also (sometimes) like simming a year or two at the beginning of a Franchise. It gives me a feeling that it is more my team. (It also removes the temptation to compare my team directly to the current MLB team, freeing me up even more.) It's also not a bad idea to see what your team can do during a rebuild, by playing every game until you begin to see that your team won't be competitive this year, then sim forward. If my team is competitive (at all) i will stick with them, playing every game. Even if there is not much chance of making the playoffs...or sometimes just finishing at.500 is the goal - i don't put myself in a box. The point is to have fun)

                          One thing the game really leaves out is injuries. Even with the injury slider on 10, they just don't happen nearly as often as MLB. Injuries are a HUGE part of baseball, but not in the Show. So I have used OOTP to determine injuries and IL. I just sim the OOTP season along at the same pace as my season. I generally get between 2 to 10 injuries per day at the MLB level (mostly Day to Day stuff) which i manually enter into my Franchise. This only takes about 5 minutes after each game. But gives a much deeper feeling of immersion. (And you also get some interesting storylines. And maybe some suspensions, etc.)

                          OOTP has become my "MLB the Show companion" to add storylines and immersion. (One of my prospects recently got in trouble at a nightclub and got scraped up. He will miss a few games. Not cool. - But cool.) It also "helps" with trades and Free Agent signings, releases, etc. I say "helps" because player ratings might be different - or teams might be in a different place in the standings. So i use OOTP as my "Co-GM" for all teams. It "suggests" roster moves, and I look to determine if i think a team "might" make that move in real life, even if i don't 100% agree with it. It doesn't have to all be perfect. It's just a companion to add another level of realism.

                          My favorite Franchise goes

                          -Play every game of Spring and really focus on prospects and minor leaguers.
                          -Let OOTP determine injuries, suspensions, and storylines by simming alongside mine.
                          -Let OOTP "suggest" roster moves, trades, and signings and I will agree or disagree.
                          -Let the CPU also make roster moves. And have a backup save to veto it, just in case...
                          -AND - Don't get in a hurry... (i used to try to keep up with the real MLB schedule. This just adds pressure to play every night, even when you really don't want to play. It also robs you of life. And time for family/ friends etc. Not to mention, you won't play your best, when you are just playing because you "need" to get a game in. Take some nights off. Play when you want to play.)

                          Finally, there are other little things that i do to make my Franchise awesome. I have slider set for playing games, a slider set for simming games, and a slider set for watching games. I can tune in to other games, Sunday Night baseball, Playoffs, etc and watch them, with realistic outcomes.
                          (Nomo's Stat-based sets for watching games were/are simply awesome. Many nights i put a game on in the background while doing something else, and just let it play out. The game plays so realistic i usually get sucked into watching it. I forget its not real. I got sucked into an awesome Astros Tigers game last night. I couldn't take my eyes off the last few innings. )

                          I also keep score to every game i play. So i can tell you what happened on pitch 93 of game 18 two years ago lol. I can also tell you what Elvis Andrus' First Pitch Swing %, Ground Ball rate, and Batting Average was, say, between April 12 and May 20 last year. Or how many of his last 28 balls in play went to right field. So yes - i am a bit hardcore with my Franchise. But it turns the Show from a video game into an experience. And all of it takes very little extra time outside of actually playing the game. (Maybe 15-20 minutes extra (at most) to add injuries and keep score and stats. So I probably spend less time with The Show than most people do every night)

                          Can you tell that I love The Show? Lol. Actually - i just love baseball. And everything about it. The Show, and all of this, just happens to immerse me my own very realistic baseball world.

                            The ******* AI is actually pissing me odds. I can’t even quick manage a game, without needing to enter the game at least once, to make sure the ai doesn’t do some ******* bullpen management

                            I also use cpu roster control, so I can set other teams rotations/lineups/etc to be realistic, and the ai just ignores my lineups and does its own when the game starts. Anyway to avoid this?

                              I also use cpu roster control, so I can set other teams rotations/lineups/etc to be realistic, and the ai just ignores my lineups and does its own when the game starts. Anyway to avoid this?
                              It's a stamina issue. Frustrating for sure but that's what causes it. Only way to avoid it is quick manage your team or start the game with both controllers and sim
