Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

Ok guys, I originally posted this on Ridin's and Teams roster page after a few people responded we felt like it deserved its own thread in hopes that SCEA sees it and reads it!
As we all know Franchise Mode the last few yrs has had little to no additions added to it! And yes while player contracts are nice there are alot more things that SCEA could add to make it better or to keep it around. So Id like this thread to be why YOU play Franchise Mode and why you want it to stay/improve-

For me personally its quite easy-
The Show is the soul reason why i switched from XBox to PS.
I dont play any other mode except for Franchise cause I like to be in control of ALL the action and ALL the Teams.
It also helps that Ridin and his Team make the best roster in any Sports game on the market and I look forward to their work every year.
For me if The Show ever got rid of Franchise Mode or if Ridin and Team ever stopped doing the minor league Roster id probably be done with The Show!
And for me that would be worst case scenerio as Baseball is my Favorite sport whether its watching it, Playing the real thing or Playing The Show!

And in areas we didn't ask for while neglecting key issues.

It also doesn't help that most of the additions have ended up being good in theory but terrible in implementation, like morale. Players should be ecstatic to bat second on my team, is where I but my best batter, but no, we are just ramroded into a traditional lineup mentality.

Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

I love franchise mode for the same reasons everyone else does. I’m most likely going to play it every year and buy the game every year even if they never change it. But we need to be honest here.

DD is where its at now. I dabbled with playing online a little bit in 18 - it was a ton of fun but definitely has more of an arena “head to head” feel than a true to life baseball feel, which is what I think us franchise players are really after. But these guys who play seriously or even casually online shell out money to buy packs and stubs, some of them much more than they’d admit if you asked them.

Even the most casual of players who buys a single $50 50-pack during the year has already basically spent double the money that us franchise players have. We buy the game for $60 and we’re done. It’d be nice to think the developers are reading and responding to the gripes us offline players have about the game - and I’m sure to some degree they are. But spend some time in the forums and social media groups of regular DD players and you’ll see who they are catering to. In 17, online players would spam bunts for base hits so they nuke bunting in 18. In 18 people would fill their entire lineup with power hitters regardless of position with little penalty, so in ‘19 they nuke the defense for any player out of position. These are fine for online guys but these gameplay quirks absolutely leak over into the offline modes as a result. Everyone who plays online complains about baserunning cheesers - notice the amount of complaints about how hard it is to steal bases this year? Keep the DD people happy and the microtransactions will keep coming. Some of the guys who play online are VERY competitive and not all of them spend cash to get there but enough of them do for it to matter. Meanwhile we’ve been asking for a rotating interleague schedule for how manu years?

The dev’s and everyone who work on the game do a really great job, and in my opinion the Show is the greatest video game of all time. Im never going to stop playing it. But this is the reality of where things are at now and I think us franchise players need to temper our expectations as to how much they’re going to address our wants and needs going forward. At the end of the day the success of MLB 19 comes down to one thing - how much more $$ did it make than MLB 18? And how do we make more $$ in 20? The $$ they get from us franchise players is the same every year.

Hate to be the negative Nancy here but it is what it is right?

The simple reason is, they will lose thousands of customers.

The franchise mode is an industry standard. If MLB were to remove it from their game, they would be taking a needless step backwards compared to every other sports franchise. No other sports game will, or ever would, remove franchise mode.

I for one will not ever buy a sports game without a franchise mode. There are MANY players who feel the same.

Exactly this(and Chedarer also). First season mode went , where you could do short seasons,14 or 29,and a half season was perfect for me,and I'm guessing quite a few others that have work, family and other commitments ,that can only devote so much time to gaming.

I think the 2 can co-exist if well integrated. I’m not playing March to October as it is now, i tried but not for me because i can’t use Ridin’s roster and no injuries etc..

But they had moments in Franchise already. If a new MTO 2.0 is integrated to actual or even better, an upgraded Franchise, we’ll have something. But to succeed, I think we should have option to alternate between MTO and Franchise.

I see MTO as actual Moments on steroids.

As Caulfield said, a March to Franchise... or Franchise to October kind of thing

I'm honestly not trying to be pricky when I say this, but how do you really know?

I believe they may meld the current franchise together with MTO.

I don't really understand their motivation though. They steadily remove options and their patches are sloppy.

Their effort to fix the guess pitch sound affected the visual of it. For the last 10 years, the visuals for guess pitch have always come before the pitch was released.

I don't even use guess pitch, but it's a good example of their dev team not testing things thoroughly and it makes people question their testing.
Do it. (Release The Show for PC)

Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

It would be absolute nonsense to use "that's where the money is" as an excuse to focus on DD and get rid of franchise mode. People really like DD and I've heard it's very fun, but as someone mentioned earlier, it's more of an arcade/head-to-head thing.

I just wish they would take a peek at how NBA 2K does it. When I picked up NBA 2K18 last year - which was the first 2K game I'd played in a couple years, I was absolutely stunned by their franchise mode. All I had heard was the fact that their MyPlayer was so tough because of the Microtransactions and that all they cared about was making money, yet I pick up the game and even though yes, they put a ton of resources into their online modes like MyPlayer and MyTeam, their franchise mode was unbelievable.

Relocation with a full database of designs while keeping your former team's uniforms as throwbacks, league expansion, league retraction, league realignment, rule changes (!), multiple commentary teams, importing and creating draft classes, in-depth scouting, "social media" so you can keep tabs on the league, a FULL RECORD BOOK and ACCOMPLISHMENTS on the player cards... I mean, I didn't even know what to do with myself seeing how in-depth this was. It was unbelievable.

MLB The Show loves to say they don't have a big enough team and a lot of people around here say "well they have to go where the money is and I understand that", but they could do both. 2K uses a ton of their resources on online play and they put all other sports games to shame with their franchise mode. What MLB needs is a group of developers that understand why people are fans of this game and not try to turn baseball into something it's not. RBI Baseball is for those people. This dev team created a beautiful and life-like simulation of baseball and now that they're at a point where they can push it over the top by adding to the realism of their franchise mode, they're losing sight of what makes baseball baseball. They have opportunities to do great things and then flub it up... Like instead of adding to their franchise mode, they ended up making a new mode by accident. They add player morale, yet make it so players are angry all the time over things that really are of little to no consequence. Or last year when they admitted that they needed to show more emotion, but instead of having guys getting fired up and yelling or pounding their chest, they made 15 different celebrations of guys doing the worm on the way to home plate.

Get people who truly understand what it's like to be a fan to at least come in and work with the devs because otherwise there will never be improvement.

M20 already is melded to franchise, these 2 things can coexist w/o need to force both on an unwilling participant.
I cant speak for cb but I dont worry about franchise being removed any more than I worry about dropping dead of a heart attack next week. could both happen? sure but I'm not making my plans around either one. I'm as confident I'll be alive for MLBTS20 as I am in playing franchise in 20
